6 Anime Like Isekai Yakkyoku (Parallel World Pharmacy) [Recommendations]

What if you have an isekai anime where you don't get someone who doesn't have those super cheats or powers but still specializes in one thing? Is there more potential to the isekai genre than what we initially believed? The answer is yes, and we've seen it through Isekai Yakkyoku.

Isekai Yakkyoku changed the isekai genre by showing us that one can make a difference in the world by not having special powers but by specializing in one thing. Isekai Yakkyoku follows the theme of medicine. We have Farma, a young boy from a noble family specializing in medicine, but he was a medical researcher in his past life. He changed the medical practices in the new world by using the skills and experiences he learned in his past life and combining them with the powers he obtained.

Sadly, Isekai Yakkyoku only left us with 12 episodes, not knowing if there ever will be a second season. So, if Isekai Yakkyoku left you wanting more, we've come up with a list of similar anime that might scratch that isekai itch.

1. Cheat Kusushi no Slow Life: Isekai ni Tsukurou Drugstore (Drugstore in Another World: The Slow Life of a Cheat Pharmacist)

  • Episodes: 12
  • Aired: July 2021 to September 2021

Reiji Kirio, an ordinary office worker, was suddenly transported into another fantasy world. He didn't get any special skills, like all isekai stories; instead, he gained two skills: "appraisal" and "drug discovery." Using the two skills he has, Reiji decides to open a drugstore and live a slow life.

If you are looking for an anime closer to Isekai Yakkyoku, Drugstore in Another World might be the perfect show. Drugstore in Another World has many similarities to Isekai Yakkyoku. Our main characters find themselves in a fantasy world, have gained medical knowledge, and open a drugstore to help people. This anime thought takes more of a slice-of-life, comedic route. It does not go into much detail about the medicines and diseases like Isekai Yakkyoku.

2. Knights & Magic

  • Episodes: 13
  • Aired: July 2017 to September 2017

Tsubasa Kurata was an engineer and modern-day otaku from Japan. After being killed in a tragic car accident, Tsubasa was reborn as Ernest Echivarra, a young boy from a noble family. He quickly discovers the fantasy world he is in also has mecha robots called Silhouette Knights. Living every robot otaku's dream, Ernest uses his skills from his past life and his passion for mecha to make the ultimate robot for himself.

Like Isekai Yakkyoku, Knights & Magic also shows that knowledge about anything, even just one thing, can make a difference in the world. Like Isekai Yakkyoku, our main character Ernest was also a reincarnate and has memories of his past. Instead of medicines, though, Knight & Magic follows the theme of robots, with Ernest having the knowledge and experience to improve or create them. So if you are looking for a sci-fi, isekai style, why not try this anime?

3. Honzuki no Gekokujou: Shisho ni Naru Tame ni wa Shudan wo Erandeiraremasen (Ascendance of a Bookworm)

  • Episodes: 14
  • Aired: October 2019 to December 2019

Book-lover Urano Motsu dreams of becoming a librarian. Unfortunately, the dream was cut short after she died in a tragic accident. On her last breath, she prayed that she could read books in her next life. As if her prayers were answered, she suddenly finds herself in another world similar to the medieval era as Myne, a frail 5-year-old girl. As a book lover herself, of course, the first thing she would do is to read books, but what is this?! There are no books! Then she will make them herself, and nothing can stop her!

Ascendance of a Bookworm is on our list because of its many similarities with Isekai Yakkyoku. We have main characters who have reincarnated into another world with memories of their past life, have a passion or knowledge about one thing, and use their memories and experiences to make life better. The big difference between Myne and Farma is that Myne does not have any powers to help her achieve her goal. Despite the difference, this anime is just as enjoyable to watch as Isekai Yakkyoku. We recommend you give this anime a try if you haven't already.
