1. Hataraku Maou-sama! (The Devil is a Part-Timer!)

  • Episodes: 13
  • Aired: April 2013 – June 2013

Usually, when trying to recommend anime based on previously enjoyed works, it results in a little straw-grasping. However, this is not the case as The Devil is a Part-Timer! is so similar to The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated! it's astounding! The Devil is a Part-Timer! follows the life of Satan who finds himself one day bested by a hero named Emilia. Banished to the human realm in modern-day Tokyo, Satan is forced to survive long enough to return to his homeland and fulfill his original mission. Adopting the guise of "Sadao Maou" he begins working at a fast-food restaurant. And so, we bear witness to the most mundane of everyday chores seen through the eyes of someone absolutely new to this world.

The similarities between The Devil is a Part-Timer! and The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated! go on and on. Both shows are slice-of-life comedy anime. Both shows feature an archetypical villain being banished by a traditional hero to the mortal modern-day world. Both have their main protagonist adopt a guise through which they can work (Jahy using her limited adult form to work at an izakaya serving drinks). Both feature the sole loyal companion by the former villain's side, tirelessly helping them get back on their feet. While both shows are completely different, hit varying story beats, and feature separate characters, it is very clear to see where exactly The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated! found its inspiration from.

2. Gokushufudou (The Way of the Househusband)

  • Episodes: 5
  • Aired: April 2021

Tatsu was the former head honcho of a violent and ruthlessly powerful yakuza gang. Holding the nickname "Immortal Dragon" those in the underworld were stunned when his legendary figure seemed to suddenly vanish off the face of the Earth. However, what had really transpired behind the scenes was Tatsu hanging up his yakuza title in favor of living a peaceful life with his wife. Slapping on an apron, Tatsu strives every day to become the best homemaker he can be. Whether this is preparing deliciously succulent meals or ensuring the house is spotless for his wife when she returns from work, no challenge is too steep for this househusband!

Both The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated! and The Way of the Househusband feature a villain hanging up their title (either reluctantly or willingly) in order to perform simple day-to-day chores. However, while we see Jahy struggle to balance her personal life, Tatsu quickly masters all things related to homemaking; stunning both his new friends and old peers alike! The Way of the Househusband is a comedy with a very similar premise to The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated! However, the plots do diverge so, if you were looking for something with a slightly different spin on this narrative premise, The Way of the Househusband has got you covered!

3. Beelzebub

  • Episodes: 60
  • Aired: January 2011 – March 2012

Tatsumi Oga attends a school of delinquents. All day, every day, the students do nothing but fight one another in order to rise up the school's metaphorical hierarchy. However, people know better than to mess with Oga, who is known the campus over as the school's most dangerous fighter. One day, Oga happens across a strange man floating down a riverbed. After splitting in two, the man opens his body to reveal a Baby. The baby is soon revealed to be the son of the Demon Lord! Baby Beel latches on to whoever he thinks is the most powerful and so he finds a father figure in Oga. After being briefed by Baby Beel's personal maid Hildegard of the Demon Lord's expectations, the two set out to raise Baby Beel in Oga's world of delinquent chaos!

Both Beelzebub and The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated! feature a character from the demon world traveling to ours and attempting to live. While Jahy is forced to complete her daily chores alone such as cooking, cleaning, and part-time work, Beelzebub focuses on another key event of a person's timeline; child-rearing. Taking care of a child can be difficult enough but this goes doubly so when you're forced to cater to the needs of a demon all the while attempting to navigate a school filled with people after your crown as the greatest fighter. Both Beelzebub and The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated! are hilarious comedy anime featuring a great ensemble cast. Beelzebub does feature a lot more action and fight scenes than The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated! but, with 60 episodes to spare, you can rest assured that there will be some jokes along the way!

After Fuyumi Yanagi somehow finds herself in the Demon Realm Staz is overjoyed and quickly becomes attracted to her. Unfortunately, after her untimely death, Staz vows to resurrect her (and if this means traveling to the demon world, Staz's greatest wish, well then that's just icing on the cake).

Blood Lad is similar to The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated! in that both anime focus on a demon experiencing modern-day Japan for the first time. However, while Jahy is angered by her position in the world of humans, Staz is overjoyed to walk among us! He is finally able to experience the world he had read about in manga and seen in anime. Staz embodies most otaku who live outside of Japan when they finally save enough money to make the pilgrimage over to Tokyo. Both anime hit similar comedy beats focusing on misunderstandings of a Demon in the human world.

  • Episodes: 11
  • Aired: July 2018 – September 2018

Since Jashin can regenerate, Yurine holds no qualms in dishing out as much damage as she possibly can! The show focuses on these two reluctant roommates, the friends of Yurine, and the occasional demon Jashin brings forth from the underworld!

Jashin-chan Dropkick follows a similar narrative to The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated! in that it follows the life of a demon coming to our world. 6. Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon (Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid)

  • Episodes: 13
  • Aired: January 2017 – April 2017

Kobayashi, a full-time programmer, finds herself surprised one day as opening her door reveals a busty, energetic, dragon-human hybrid! Tooru exclaims that, during a drunken trip to the mountains, the two had met and Kobayashi had offered the homeless creature a place to stay. Cashing in on the offer, Tooru agrees to work as a maid in order to pay off her rent. Unfortunately, Tooru's presence attracts several other mythical beings to Kobayashi's front door and so, a hilarious slice-of-life comedy ensues with these dragon girls front and center.

Both Maid Dragon and The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated! feature a set of characters struggling to come to grips with just how difficult everyday human life can be at times. Tooru's maid skills are… less than impressive at first and Kobayashi wonders whether it would be better for Tooru to not clean at all. What sets Maid Dragon apart from its contemporaries, however, is the rich backstory we are exposed to through the show's narrative. As we learn more about Tooru, we learn of her history including several painful memories. Sure, the show is a comedy anime like The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated! However, where The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated! is a comedy anime until its dying breath, Maid Dragon finds a healthy balance between humor and drama.
