One of the hardest things to not hear about if you’re looking up classical romance stories is the old tale of Romeo and Juliet. The original story focused on the titular characters who were on opposing sides of well-off families who end up falling in love but dealing with the ramifications of said love. As great as this classic is, us anime fans can’t stop wanting anime versions of this incredible tale for a new age and we might have finally found that desired result!
Kimi to Boku no Saigo no Senjou, Aruiwa Sekai ga Hajimaru Seisen (Our Last Crusade or the Rise of a New World) has been a surprising series this fall season and we want to make sure you readers dive into this series so you too can get hooked!
Love on the Battlefield
The biggest attention-grabbing element of Our Last Crusade or the Rise of a New World has to be the love on the battlefield concept. Despite the two forces—The Empire and The Nebulis Sovereignty—hating each other, you have the two main characters falling for one another. Iska and Alice engage in an epic duel in episode one but it quickly becomes apparent neither of them wishes for mindless destruction and both have a bigger goal in mind. Watching Alice and Iska have fun in the opera and the awkwardness that follows is both cute and kind of sad. We truly hope these two can put their weapons down and find peace so their love can flourish!
Incredible Animation
Our Last Crusade boasts some truly incredible animation, as evident in episode 3 where Iska and Alice face off against an old witch together. The fighting looked spectacular and even the art didn’t miss a beat which truly grabbed our attention! Equally, we dig the designs of our various characters—Alice is a possible waifu of the year in the making—which gives this series a truly unique vibe.
Romeo and Juliet of 2020?!
What made Romeo and Juliet so legendary? The simple answer for that is the tragic tale of romance that blossomed between two opposing forces that bloomed quickly and died just as fast. Our Last Crusade is proving to have a similar tale in mind where Iska works for an empire that seems to hate the witches for various reasons and Alice on the other side has a union of witches that want nothing more for the destruction of the empire. Despite these clearly old and embedded feelings, our two heroes are of a new age and they wish to prove that both sides can be reborn if the right moves are made. The true test of their desires will come forth as Iska and Alice fall deeper in love and begin to make waves in their respective groups but for now, the storm is quiet but growing…
Relatable New-Age Issues
Without diving into too many political hot topics, Our Last Crusade or the Rise of a New World has a very relatable story that can be seen in our everyday world . Outdated beliefs and bitter feelings from the past have resurfaced, sadly, and many must take sides regardless of their feelings. However, like Iska and Alice, there are those who are making a stand and trying to reunite a world that has been shattered by these past tensions and it gives this anime series a deeper message than most shows from this fall season. We’re excited to see how Iska and Alice will revolutionize their world and maybe we as viewers can learn from their examples.
