Synopsis
Ashito Aoi is a junior high school student living in Ehime and is the ace of his school’s small and weak soccer team. To blow off some steam after losing his last tournament as a junior high school student, he goes running by the sea, where he meets a man who watched his match. That man happens to be Tatsuya Fukuda, a youth team coach who trains high school-aged kids at the distinguished J-League Tokyo City Esperion FC. Although Ashito’s techniques are unrefined, Fukuda noticed that he has a special talent for soccer as well as infinite potential. He then starts talking about his own ambitions and tells Ashito: “I have an ambition. With the club that I’ve built, I can give you the world. It's not a stepping stone to the world. My club IS the world. And by training you in the Youth Team, I will carry that ambition to fruition.” Ashito accepts Fukuda’s invitation and decides to go to Tokyo for the selection tryouts.
Characters & Voice Actors
Ashito Aoi: Koki Osuzu
His position is “Forward Genius.” He claims to be a reincarnation of Cristiano Ronaldo from his heyday. He meets Fukuda in Ehime and gets an opportunity to try out for the Esperion Youth Team. He’s a confident and candid guy, but he does have one flaw—his short temper. His soccer techniques need refining, but his competitiveness and exceptional vision open up untold possibilities. His untamed curly hair is his signature look.
Eisaku Otomo: Tatsumaru Tachibana
He’s in the same selection tryouts group as Ashito and Tachibana. He’s the mood maker of the team and pays close attention to everyone. He gets super nervous right before a match, but once it starts, he’s able to make calm and collected decisions. As a midfielder, he keeps the defensive and offensive lines connected and moving smoothly. He’s usually a jokester who desperately tries to get attention from girls, but he never has any luck.
Soichiro Tachibana: Seiichiro Yamashita
He’s in the same selection tryouts group as Ashito and Otomo. He used to belong to the Yokoyama Musashino Juniors Youth Team, but for the past several years he’s felt that his growth has come to a standstill. In order to stop himself from becoming a mediocre player, he hopes to join the Esperion Youth Team. He occasionally says crazy things without reading the room and catches some looks from others, but he’s a serious-minded guy with a strong sense of responsibility. His position is a forward.
Keiji Togashi: Taku Yashiro
An amazing talent and the only person of Ashito’s age who Fukuda personally scouted for his Esperion Youth Team. He’s a former delinquent who feels strongly about moral obligations and humane feelings. He’s an offensive defender who has an impressive playing style that uses his physical attributes to his advantage, but he also has a solid foundation and an understanding of field tactics. Due to past feuds, he considers Kuroda and Takeshima his enemies.
Kanpei Kuroda: Shun Horie
A graduate of the Esperion Junior Youth Team. He’s a midfielder who is always calm, cool and collected. He’s usually carefree, quiet, and wears a smile on his face to create a friendly atmosphere, but he’s a realist who makes becoming a professional player his top priority. He and Takeshima have a feud going on with Togashi, who has a different perspective on soccer.
Jun Martis Asari: Wataru Katou
A graduate of the Esperion Junior Youth Team. He’s a cool blonde pretty boy who has a Japanese mother and a British father. He’s a side back that’s good at attacking. He’s arrogant and doesn’t get why someone like Ashito with second-rate skills is on the Youth Team, so he often treats him in a condescending manner.
Yuma Motoki: Junya Enoki
A graduate of the Esperion Junior Youth Team. He’s a chatterbox on and off the field. He often goofs around and his vampire tooth is his most distinguishing feature. He’s a forward and although he’s only a first year, he’s a talented first-string player. He’s childhood friends with Anri, the daughter of Esperion’s main sponsor, Kaido Electric, but it seems that she dislikes him.
Ryuichi Takeshima: Kentaro Kumagai
A graduate of the Esperion Junior Youth Team. He’s a defender that specializes in defensive techniques, a rarity for the super attack-oriented Esperion soccer team. Otomo resents him because he brings his girlfriend on the field. He’s Yuma’s best friend. He and Kuroda have a feud going on with Togashi, who has a different perspective on soccer.
