5. Kazuo Yamashita from Kengan Ashura

  • Episodes: 24
  • Aired: July 31, 2019 – October 31, 2019

What if you could go from nobody to somebody in a matter of minutes, but at a price you think that’s worth paying? That’s pretty much the life story of Kazuo Yamashita, who starts the series as a middle-aged divorcee who is stuck at a dead-end job. Kazuo develops thanks to the influence of Tokita Ohma, a fighter he manages for an underground MMA tournament sanctioned by the 1%.

As he rides off the coattails of Ohma’s success, Kazuo learns to stand up for himself, climb out of his hole, and seeks to be a better father to his son. Through Kazuo’s relationship with Ohma, viewers can learn it’s never too late to start over and move forward in life, and that young people can also be influential and inspirational to their elders.

4. Erwin Smith from Shingenki no Kyojin Season 3 Part 2 (Attack on Titan Season 3 Part 2)

  • Episodes: 10
  • Aired: April 29, 2019 – July 1, 2019

For the past three seasons, Erwin has played a huge role as the commander of the Survey Corps. He is charismatic and wise as a leader, and all of his soldiers would gladly give their lives for him. In a key battle against the Beast Titan, Erwin knew he had to use that to his advantage. When the battle is finished, countless lives have been sacrificed and Erwin is bloodied and broken. Not only is Erwin on the brink of death, but so is Armin, and the team is conflicted regarding who to save.

When it is all said and done, Levi gives into the influence Erwin had over him and saves Armin knowing that’s what Erwin wanted. Erwin was a leader by example and had faith in the next generation. The fact that his soldiers honor his legacy by looking to the future is why he’s a great supporting character.

3. Mirio Togata from Boku no Hero Academia 4th Season (My Hero Academia 4)

  • Episodes: 25
  • Aired: October 12, 2019 – Ongoing

Mirio, or Lemillion, is that senpai supporting character that any main character looks up to. Like All Might, Mirio has a very positive personality but expresses it in a different manner that’s more appropriate for an inexperienced teenager. In the fourth season, Mirio’s relationship with Deku is given further exploration when they serve as interns at Sir Nighteye’s agency.

When they first encounter Eri, a girl being controlled by a local mafia, Deku and Mirio know they are in a dangerous situation and despite feeling the danger she is in, they still let her go with the bad guys. After getting the facts straight, the audience sees that Mirio (and Deku) are emotionally crushed that they couldn’t act when they wish they could have. When the heroes get their chance to save Eri, Mirio puts his life on the line like a true hero and becomes a further inspiration to Deku and his peers.

2. Gus Goldman from Carole & Tuesday

  • Episodes: 24
  • Aired: April 11, 2019 – October 3, 2019

Gus serves as the manager for the titular Carole and Tuesday. After watching their performance, he knows they have the potential to succeed and wants to help them get there. While Gus may not be mega-rich, he still has a wealth of experience, knowledge, and connections to help Carole and Tuesday make it to the big time. He may come across as aloof and cheap but in the end, Gus knows what’s best for these two young ladies.

Gus has faced success and failure in his life in the music industry so he’s the best person to guide these girls towards another path to success if one doesn’t work out. While he can be a little too honest about wanting to mooch off of Carole and Tuesday when they get rich and famous, he genuinely cares about them as if they were his own daughters. Through Gus’ guidance, Carole and Tuesday not only achieve success, they also learn the true values of hard work and dedication.

1. Bruno Bucciarati from JoJo no Kimyou na Bouken: Ougon no Kaze (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind)

  • Episodes: 39
  • Aired: October 6, 2018 – July 28, 2019

At number one, we have Bucciarati from the fifth story arc of JoJo. Bucciarati is the leader of a local gang in Naples but has a knack for justice. He’s a man who truly cares about his community and if the old lady at the candy store was robbed, he’ll make sure she gets her money back.

Thanks to sharing the same values as Giorno, the main character—with both of them being disgusted with how children are getting OD’d in their community—he became this season’s most valued supporting cast member. People say loyalty is everything in the mafia and Bucciarati is a true example of that. Like Erwin, he leads by example from the front and never hesitates to put himself in harm’s way for his friends. Thanks to his undying loyalty and bravery, he qualifies for number one.
