Best VR/AR Games of 2019

We have finally reached the future spoken of in many movies, anime, and video games…2020! Unfortunately, while we don’t have true flying cars yet and/or the ability to teleport between locations, we have made some huge achievements in the world of VR/AR games! While there weren’t too many new ARβ€”augmented reality in case you were wonderingβ€”titles in 2019, one caught our eye and made us relive a popular childhood franchise. In the VR realm, several big titles released and showed the gaming world VR is no mere gimmick! Without further ado, let us talk about these fascinating titles in our Best VR/AR Games of 2019 article!

5. Harry Potter: Wizards Unite

  • System: Android, iOS
  • Publisher: Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment
  • Developer: Niantic Labs
  • Release Dates: June 20, 2019

PokΓ©mon GO was a huge hit for developer Niantic Labs and you knew they weren’t going to just make one AR game from a popular franchise. Also developed by Niantic Labs comes Harry Potter: Wizards Unite for the Android and/or iOS. Players can experience the thrill of being a wizard as they unleash powerful spells at opponents all while roaming the world searching for hidden magical goods! Harry Potter: Wizards Unite reminded us that getting out of the house once in a while isn’t a bad thing, especially if we can become wizards by doing so!

4. Ghost Giant

  • System: PS4
  • Publisher: Zoink!
  • Developer: Zoink!
  • Release Dates: April 16, 2019

Being alone in the world can be rough. There’s always this feeling that you’re too weak to do anything and no one is there to protect you. Ghost Giant shows you that even the smallest of beingsβ€”in this case, a cat-boy named Louisβ€”can be stronger if they have a giant ghost protecting them! Ghost Giant is a powerful narrative VR game with an engagingβ€”sometimes relatableβ€”story and fun gameplay. We even reviewed Ghost Giant here at Honey’s Anime so if you’d like to know more about it we suggest checking that review out!

3. Five Nights at Freddy’s VR: Help Wanted

  • System: PS4, PC
  • Publisher: Scott Cawthon
  • Developer: Steel Wool Games, Inc.
  • Release Dates: May 28, 2019

Five Nights at Freddy’s has already scared the living crap out of us horror fans but developer Scott Cawthon isn’t done yet. Instead of having animatronic baddies jump scaring you to death via a monitor you can have animatronics jump scaring you right in your face! Five Nights at Freddy’s VR: Help Wanted puts you back into the hell that is the Five Nights lore with new stories to enjoy and new ways to get you close to experiencing a heart attack. There are a lot of scary VR games out there but 2019 delivered one of the bestβ€”and spookiestβ€”in the form of Five Nights at Freddy’s VR: Help Wanted.

2. Pistol Whip

  • System: PC
  • Publisher: Cloudhead Games ltd.
  • Developer: Cloudhead Games ltd.
  • Release Dates: November 7, 2019

Many of us VR fans love rhythm themed titles and equally love action-heavy VR games. Pistol Whip by Cloudhead Games Ltd. fuses both of those genres to make a truly heart-pumping VR game that is both addicting and immersive. Players will need to shoot and whip their VR guns to kill enemies in a non-stop linear path. However, if you want to net points and pull off some impressive combos, you’ll need to kill enemies in tangent with the OST, which is also quite spectacular. Pistol Whip is easily one of the best VR games of the decade and definitely one of the better titles to release in 2019!

1. Blood & Truth

  • System: PS4
  • Publisher: Sony Interactive Entertainment
  • Developer: SCEE London Studio
  • Release Dates: May 28, 2019

What makes a VR game so appealing is the ability to make gamers lose themselves in another world both physically and mentally. Blood & Truth showed the gaming world in 2019 that VR is truly breaking the realm of immersion by delivering an almost movie-like experience. In Blood & Truth, you are the action hero who must jump across rooftops, shoot your various guns and lay the beatdown on various criminal entities. In our opinion, Blood & Truth proves to us fans of virtual reality that we can only go higher with this technology. You owe it to yourselfβ€”if you own a PSVR headsetβ€”to buy Blood & Truth to play a VR game unlike any other!

Hey everyone I’m Aaron Curbelo or Blade as I’m called by my YouTube Subscribers. I’ve been an anime/manga fan since I was a young kid. In terms of anime I have watched nearly a thousand shows and have read hundreds of manga series. I’m a firm believer in respect in the anime community being the most important embodiment we should all have. We all love anime and we have varying opinions of series but we should respect one another for those differences! Life is too precious to spend it making needless arguments in a community that should be the shining example of loving an amazing medium.
