“Bocchi-chan,” Hitori Goto, is an extremely shy and introverted girl who can’t hold a conversation to save her life. She starts learning guitar because she dreams of shining in a band someday, but since she doesn’t have any friends, she spends her middle school days practicing by herself for six hours a day. After getting good at it, she uploads videos of her playing on the net as “Guitar Hero,” and has “wild ideas” such as performing at the school’s culture festival. However, before she knows it, middle school has passed by without her making a single friend or finding any bandmates! She’s only one step away from becoming a shut-in, when one day, Nijika Ijichi, the drummer in a band called The Cable Ties, strikes up a conversation with her and her daily life slowly begins to change.
