Did Ecchi Harem Anime Reign Supreme This Winter 2021 Season!?!?

No season will ever be a true anime season without a nice helping of fan service and we don’t disagree here at Honey’s Anime. We had a nice slew of ecchi/harem series such as The Hidden Dungeon Only I Can Enter, Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation, and The Quintessential Quintuplets 2. But, were these shows enough for the winter 2021 anime season? Did our otaku hearts fill with joy or were our noses left dry and very clean when they should have been bursting with red!? Let us ponder on the season and see if the ecchi harem truly reigned or if it was overshadowed by other anime series.

Oppai Bouncing but Only Just Enough

We expected a lot from the second season of The Quintessential Quintuplets—as these girls have become our new anime waifu—and equally prayed The Hidden Dungeon Only I Can Enter would fill in the ecchi maybe not seen in the former series. In our opinions, these shows did quite well hitting our expectations but equally, neither show was constantly filling our screens with lustful images. The oppai were bouncing in our hearts and screens but only just enough to keep us pleased.

An Ecchi Surprise

One of the biggest surprises for us ecchi fans came in the form of an isekai. Jobless Reincarnation blew us away by delivering a truly stellar narrative but equally had a ton of ecchi scenes and moments. Rudeus Greyrat might be seen as a young boy—though viewers know he’s actually a reincarnated 34-year-old—and he was obsessed with pantsu like us anime viewers. Rudeus even coveted a pair of stolen pantsu—calling them his great treasure—showing his perverted mind. All jokes aside, Jobless Reincarnation wasn’t all about ecchi but it threw in a nice amount which made us smile just as big as Rudy does when he gets a peek at something sexy!

Strong Ecchi Series

While there were only a few shows with the ecchi/harem genre attached to the title, the shows we did get were very well done overall in terms of our personal tastes here at Honey’s Anime and the anime community’s opinions. One show failed in multiple ways—we will mention that show in a second—but overall, the season had some great titles and that is better than seeing ten ecchi anime but only one being good from the bunch.

Ex-Arm Shouldn’t Be an Ecchi

Many of you might have noticed that despite there being more than the ecchi series we mentioned above one we omitted on purpose…Ex-Arm. Yes, Ex-Arm has ecchi elements here and there but the show is such a dumpster fire that watching it even for the few moments of “fan service” doesn’t warrant suffering this travesty of an anime series. Sounds harsh but Ex-Arm has one of the lowest MAL rankings for a reason and this “ecchi” infused show sullies the name of the genre!

Final Thoughts

This winter 2021 anime season didn’t have dozens of ecchi shows or even harem anime but there were enough, and the ones we got were incredible… minus Ex-Arm. Did you think we needed more ecchi/harem anime this season or would that have ruined some of the other wonderful anime we got blessed with? Also, what ecchi/harem anime did you particularly love? Now let us all get ready…some amazing ecchi shows are coming this spring 2021!

Hey everyone I’m Aaron Curbelo or Blade as I’m called by my YouTube Subscribers. I’ve been an anime/manga fan since I was a young kid. In terms of anime I have watched nearly a thousand shows and have read hundreds of manga series. I love writing and honestly was so happy to join Honey’s Anime to get a shot to write articles for such a wonderful site. I’m a firm believer in respect in the anime community being the most important embodiment we should all have. We all love anime and we have varying opinions of series but we should respect one another for those differences! Life is too precious to spend it making needless arguments in a community that should be the shining example of loving an amazing medium. I hope as a writer for Honey’s Anime I can bring you folks some amazing articles to read and enjoy!
