Should we ever get the chance to get transported to a world of swords and magic, we will definitely be spending most of our time in dungeons to grind for experience. That is, of course, assuming we don’t have some cheat ability. On second thought, we’ll probably still be exploring dungeons a lot even if there’s no need for it just for the fun of it. We mean, those are DUNGEONS! Who could resist, right? Unfortunately, this may only happen in our imagination. In this lifetime, at the very least. The only thing we can do for now is enjoy stories and manga featuring such themes. For example, DUNGEON DIVE: Aim for the Deepest Level.

Discussion Time

DUNGEON DIVE: Aim for the Deepest Level follows the story of Kanami, a poor lad who has been transported to an unforgiving dungeon without his consent. Not only that, he’s been left there without any knowledge of his situation or surroundings. Fortunately, he has some good luck and a good head. He manages to survive his first monster encounter and even manages to escape the dungeon alive. However, he learns that in order to even have a chance of going back, he must reach the deepest part of the dungeon. Now, he must get stronger and dungeon crawl.

Why You Should Read DUNGEON DIVE: Aim for the Deepest Level Vol. 1

1. Exploring the Dungeons with Kanami

Kanami is a poor sod who gets left in a deadly dungeon without a tutorial or even a note. Because of that, he has to explore and figure out everything by himself. By extension, the readers also learn about the world along with him. DUNGEON DIVE: Aim for the Deepest Level is written in a way that the readers only know what the characters know. There is no higher being that narrates the story. Because of that, the readers are as confused as Kanami when the story starts. On another note, it’s also quite thrilling to discover the world bit by bit.

2. Questions Yet to be Answered

Since the readers learn alongside Kanami, there’s literally a slew of questions yet to be answered. The most obvious one is who actually transported Kanami into this world, and the most exciting one is what are the creatures lurking within the dungeon. It’s probably safe to assume that these questions will be answered as the plot progresses. But in the meantime, these mysteries serve as hook points that won’t allow us to drop the series any time soon. Honestly, we’re not complaining.

Why You Should Skip DUNGEON DIVE: Aim for the Deepest Level Vol. 1

1. Currently Worldbuilding

Since this is still the first volume of the series, it’s understandable that there really isn’t much action just yet. It’s still laying down the foundations and doing all of the groundwork, and there’s nothing wrong with that. After all, good worldbuilding is essential to a good series. That being said, this volume is focused on introducing the world where Kanami has been transported to the readers. The volume also allots time exploring Kanami’s skills and abilities. Because of that, the volume can be rather dull. However, we’re not advising to drop the series just yet since it does seem really interesting, especially for fans of dungeon crawling series. What we’re trying to say is you may want to wait for the next volume to come out before picking this up.

Final Thoughts

DUNGEON DIVE: Aim for the Deepest Level Vol. 1 has been an interesting and addictive read, for good and for bad. We feel like it has only scraped the tip of what the series has to offer, and now we have to wait for the next volume. The first volume only brushes against the plot and focuses more on worldbuilding and introducing the characters, which is valid given that it’s high fantasy. That validity, however, doesn’t alleviate our urge to binge it. The only good thing is that the second volume is coming out next month, and we sure can’t wait to get our hands on it. How about you? Have you read DUNGEON DIVE: Aim for the Deepest Level Vol. 1 already? We’d love to know your thoughts about it in the comment section below.
