I didn't think we would be seeing Sengoku Basara again. So cool! Fourth Seasons rock AMIRITE?

This is not the fourth season, but rather a spin off comedy one! The characters will be in school up to student antics making us laugh. Finally, something safe for me to watch.

This reminds me of how Touken Ranbu Hanamaru was. I dunno about safe, though. This screams BL. Read the intro about the students falling in love.

Why are you like this... this is going to be a fun anime.

Synopsis

Today at Basara Academy, Date Masamune, the ace of the baseball team and Sanada Yukimura, the ace of the soccer team, are once again locked in a hot battle. In the middle of this, the former student council president Hideyoshi Toyotomi has been suspended from school! This academy is plunged into confused and troubled times as various warlords circle around the position of who will be the next student council president.

On top of all of this, the decisive battle between Ieyasu Tokugawa who screams about bonds and power and Ishida Kazushige who burns with the desire to beat Ieyasu, begins. On the other hand, a strange event is making romance blossom between the students daily. Just what is tomorrow going to bring to Basara Academy which has already surpassed chaos?

Three Episode Impression

Alrighty, we’ve got Gakuen Basara~ What can we assume from the name? Well, it’s about Basara Academy, I guess. The setting is some sort of modern, we can assume, Japan where famous historical figures from Japanese history (if anime has taught you anything) are currently acting as students and apparently the headmaster of the school. Gakuen Basara starts off with some sort of waging of wars between the baseball team and the soccer team over a field. Then there are more gangs who join in for fun like the scooter gang (as opposed to a bike gang). Honestly, we can keep going with this terribly written synopsis, but even then, this synopsis would have more substance than the anime itself. It’s completely random with crap happening everywhere and no real semblance of order or direction. After 3 episodes, I get that the school needs to be unified under 1 power, which is apparently Nobunaga at the moment. Gakuen Basara seems to play off the same ridiculous humor as Gintama, but in a terrible way that makes no sense and doesn’t even have you going for the pity laugh.

Date Masamune

Voice Actor: Kazuya Nakai

Date Masamune is in class 1-1 and is the head of the baseball team. He’s also the ace of said team and his number is four. He has passionate battles with Sanada Yukimura of the soccer team every day over who gets to used the grounds.

Sanada Yukimura

Voice Actor: Souichirou Hoshi

Sanada Yukimura is also in class 1-1 and is the hot-blooded ace of the soccer club. Date Masamune is his rival. The person whom he respects is his teacher, Takeda Shingen.

Koujirou Katakura

Voice Actor: Tomoyuki Morikawa

Koujirou is the catcher for the baseball team who supports Masamune. While he is brave, he is also unexpectedly very passionate about growing vegetables.

Sasuke Sarutobi

Voice Actor: Takehito Koyasu

Sasuke is a member of the soccer team who takes care of Yukimura while also working as a member of the Newspaper Club. While searching daily for the latest scoop, he is also the most well-informed person at the academy.

Keiji Maeda

Voice Actor: Masakazu Morita

Keiji is a unpredictable young guy who just got back from his journey that meant skipping school for a while. He was captivated by Magoichi sensei at first sight and is now in love with her.

Motochika Chousokabe

Voice Actor: Ryuuzou Ishino

Motochika calls the shots at Basara Academy. He’s the older brother type and his underlings idolize him by calling him ‘aniki’. He fights with Motonari like cats and dogs do. His beloved motorcycle is called ‘Fugakugou.’

Motonari Mouri

Voice Actor: Shigeru Nakahara

Motonari is the head of the winds ensemble club and is in pursuit of giving the perfect performance. He’s cool headed, but when one of the sacrificial pawns (members) of the ensemble makes a mistake, he throws CDs at them.
