We’ve finally arrived at our final part of the In What Order Should You Watch Kara no Kyoukai (The Garden of Sinners) series with our look at the last two movies of this 8-part series. The final two movies of Kara no Kyoukai are quite interesting as we go back to the first movie—with movie 7—and then all the way to the end with an epilogue. As strange as this sound, it’s this reason alone that we love how Kara no Kyoukai was handled and why we tell others watching it in release order versus chronological order is so much more entertaining. Now without further ado, let us wrap up this three-part article series by examining the last two movies and how they interlock with the movies before them. Warning, only read this final article if you read the two previously—links available down below—and if you’ve seen the previous movies.
Kara no Kyoukai 7: Satsujin Kousatsu (Kou) (The Garden of Sinners 7: A Study in Murder Part II)
Way back in our first movie— Kara no Kyoukai 1: Fukan Fuukei—we had this big mystery set the series off. Shiki and Mikiya were tasked with finding the reason why people were dying and if they could stop future deaths. Shiki accomplishes this but more deaths have been popping up and these particular murders match the past that involves Shiki. We know by now that Shiki isn’t a pure woman and she has committed murders, but these murders aren’t by her hands and it’s up to Mikiya and her to figure out the perp before Shiki’s soul gets lost in bloodlust. Kara no Kyoukai 7: Satsujin Kousatsu Kou might seem like a rather odd way to wrap up this two-part murder mystery, but it’s easily one of the best movies filled with drama, action and supernatural themes. Add to this a touching romance plot that shows love is willing to go the distance even in horrible situations and you have a truly amazing send off for the main series of Kara no Kyoukai.
Kara no Kyoukai 8: Shuushou (The Garden of Sinners 8: The Final Chapter)
Kara no Kyoukai 8: Shuushou is basically an epilogue that released later in the series. In this incredibly short “movie”—we use air quotes because the run time is only 33 minutes—we see Mikiya and Shiki reuniting at a familiar spot. Mikiya notices that something has changed in the girl he’s fallen in love with and this tale acts as a true wrap up of their lives. Obviously, Kara no Kyoukai 8: Shuushou is made to be the last movie whether you watch the series in chronological order or release order, and while it might not be the best movie, it wraps up the series on an aww moment. Just, don’t expect a lot from a movie that is 33 minutes long…
