I don't know why, and I know they are different, but this reminds me of Inuyasha for some reason.

I kinda felt that too! Maybe a genderswapped version of Natsume Yuujinchou but with romance.

I don't know how any of you got that. This looks just like Konohana Kitan from Fall 2017. I can't wait for all the pretty fox boys!

Synopsis

In the realm of the dead where Ayakashi (ghosts) reside, there is a long-standing inn known as Tenjinya.

Aoi is a female university student who, thanks to her recently deceased grandfather, inherited his ability to see Ayakashi. Excellent at cooking, just when Aoi is feeding some rural Ayakashi one day, she is suddenly swept up by a fierce god who is the master of Tenjinya. The master declares that the collateral for the debt her grandfather left behind is that she must become his bride. As a plan to recover from this hopeless situation, she agrees to work at Tenjinya to repay the debt but…

Three Episode Impression

Upon seeing the first episode of Kakuriyo no Yadomeshi, I thought I was watching what is essentially an anime version of some rather overdone manga themes from the likes of Love Monster to Black Bird, but there’s some talk about Aoi opening up her own restaurant, so I figured that this anime would probably do more than that. So far, Kakuriyo no Yadomeshi has proven itself to be entertaining although it does not stray from the typical supernatural shoujo mould since Aoi does not do anything but be absolutely pure hearted and special to the different ayakashi around her. While it’s not different from the manga Love Monster or Black Bird, it’s still one of the rare shoujo-supernatural anime on the market with Kamisama Kiss and maybe Noragami following similar styles, though the plots are different. Unlike Noragami, though, I suspect Kakuriyo no Yadomeshi will be fluffier and have a lighter plot, though who can say at this point? So far, it’s an enjoyable anime although I wonder if it’ll soon slowly descend to the food/cooking anime route what with them constantly talking about Aoi opening her own restaurant. We’ll see how it goes.

Characters & Voice Actors List

Aoi Tsubaki

Voice Actor: Nao Touyama

Aoi is a second-year university student who inherited the ability to see ayashiki from her grandfather. When she was a child, Aoi was deserted by her mother, and when she was on the threshold of death from starvation, she was saved by ayashiki. From that day on, no matter they be human or ayashiki, if someone is hungry, she cannot leave them be. She is an honest individual who excels at cooking.

Oudana

Voice Actor: Katsuyuki Tsubaki

Oudana is a fierce god and the master who manages Tenjiya which is in the land of the demons. He is a great demon who has lived for a long time, and as such, he shoulders some of the responsibility when it comes to managing a part of Hachiha. According to his employees, Oudana is cool headed and cruel, yet also a broad-minded ally. At the same time, he also has elegant behavior and is a bit aloof from the world in order not to show his true feelings. He formed a contract decades ago with someone named Shirou but…

Ginji

Voice Actor: Shunichi Toki

Ginji is a nine-tailed fox who works for the young master and is referred to as the ‘maneki kitsune’ (beckoning fox) of Tenjiya. He is handsome with a gentle demeanor, and he is a good worker. He is flawless and every department frequently relies on him for help. He is good at transformations and can easily take on nine different forms for different uses.

Oryou

Voice Actor: Ai Kakuma

Oryou is a Yuki Onna (Snow Woman) who is the proprietress-to-be of Tenjiya. She has a high-handed way of speaking and acting, but, she does have her moments of childish self-indulgence. She takes care of her physical appearance before her work duties. Unlike how she appears, she is a massive glutton. While yearning after Oudana, she is also aiming to marry into wealth and power.

Akatsuki

Voice Actor: Yuuma Uchida

Akatsuki is a tsuchigumo (earth spider) who works as the head clerk at Tenjinya. He can become mad easily and take on a rude tone and way of speaking, but no matter the circumstances, he diligently faces every task as a meddling hard-worker. He idolizes Oudana and is very weak when it comes to his sister. He is the youngest, and yet, the management has high hopes for him.

Byakuya

Voice Actor: Atsushi Tamaru

Byakuya is a veteran whom everyone looks up to at Tenjinya. He is the head of reception and knows every single last detail about the finances of the inn. He is extremely strict with an enormous amount of knowledge. Formerly, he worked for the imperial court of demons, but he ended up taking care of all of those around him in Hachiha due to the fact that there were few who were a match for him. He immediate disregards those with no promise and believes in investing in those with potential.
