Synopsis

In a world in which every corner has been explored, the Abyss remains the sole unexplored cavern. In this gigantic pit, the depth of which is unknown, weird and wonderful creatures live and valuable relics rest, the likes of which humans couldn’t dream of making. The wonders of the Abyss lure people to it, with many rushing to explore it. The adventurers who take up this challenge many times became known as Cave Explorers.
Riko is an orphan who lives in Oosu, a town built on the edge of the Abyss. She dreams of becoming a great Cave Explorer like her mother, and solving the mysteries of the Abyss. One day, Riko picks up a robot boy while exploring the cave.

Three Episode Impression:
At first glance, it’s easy to be turned off by Made in Abyss’ rather low production values. Made in Abyss looks like something from the earlier 2000s and with the main characters being orphaned children, it can be easy to overlook Made in Abyss. Who wants to watch something about children? However, Made in Abyss is similar to Hoshi wa Ou Kodomo and even Gurren Laagan since they are about exploring an unknown world despite what dangers the main character may face. It is interesting how blessed these children feel to be able to treasure hunt and be exposed to the Curse of the Abyss rather than die in whatever destitute situation they were in. Riko herself was born in the Abyss and that just further complicates things. Then there’s Regu who was discovered in the Abyss, but there is so much more about him we don’t know. Made in Abyss has a lot of mystery and it is clear that there will be a fair amount of adventure. So far, Made in Abyss gets our approval and so, we shall continue on our adventure alongside Regu and Riko to discover what exactly lies at the bottom of the Abyss.
