Liked Tensei shitara Slime Datta Ken (That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime)? Watch Kumo Desu ga, Nani ka? (So I’m a Spider, So What?)!

  • Episodes: 24
  • Aired: Jan 2021 – Currently Airing

Nearly every isekai has the preconceived idea that people will be reborn in another world as an OP hero who can defeat everyone using special moves and skills. So I’m a Spider, So What? takes that trope and goes completely off kilter. Instead of being a super-powered hero, our main girl is reincarnated in another world but as a spider and that leads to some interesting situations only a spider can experience.

Major Similarities Between Tensei shitara Slime Datta Ken (That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime) and Kumo Desu ga, Nani ka? (So I’m a Spider, So What?)

1. Weak Beginning Forms

RPGs for generations have told us slimes are the easiest beings to kill—especially in the world of Dragon Quest—and likewise spiders tend to be another easy target. So I’m a Spider, So What? shows that spiders are indeed weak but they can unleash some deadly attacks after some through leveling up! Both That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime and So I’m a Spider, So What? have starting forms that could be considered a quick game over but eventually prove to be forms that are incredibly powerful!

2. Intense Action From a New Perspective

Seeing a spider have to battle forces ten times stronger is quite peculiar, as we saw in That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime. So I’m a Spider, So What? also gives us anime viewers a different perspective not seen in many anime and, when an isekai doesn’t rely on age-old tropes, we have to give the series some props.

Liked Tensei shitara Slime Datta Ken (That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime)? Watch Mushoku Tensei: Isekai Ittara Honki Dasu (Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation)!

  • Episodes: 11
  • Aired: Jan 2021 – Currently Airing

How would you react to going from an adult back to a child? Would you—and could you—redo your life and learn from your past mistakes or would you just go about life in the same way as before? Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation examines that exact question thrusting a NEET into a new body within a new world and watches him try to retry life. Plus, our hero gets some magical talents just to make sure he isn’t in a new world unprepared.

Major Similarities Between Tensei shitara Slime Datta Ken (That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime) and (Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation)

1. Tasteful Oppai Admiration with Smart Fan Service

Both Jobless Reincarnation and That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime aren’t shy about their protagonists loving all things ecchi and, why should they? both were, after all, adults before being reborn in their new lives. The beauty of both anime, though, is that instead of the usual overabundance--and sometimes unnecessary--fan service, these shows utilize oppai and sexual content in smarter ways. So yes, both Rudy and our little slime are massive perverts--as evident from their actions in both anime--but neither show is outrageous about fan service and makes it an integral part of the story.

2. Epic Animation and Even Greater Action

Jobless Reincarnation blew us away when it introduced the first fight in a glorious way, incredible animation. Like That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnated has some truly eye-popping action scenes that are only made more gorgeous thanks to the fabulous animation seen. If you need your isekai to be action-packed but also beautifully animated then you’re no doubt going to love Jobless Reincarnation!

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime shows the anime community isekai isn’t out of fresh/original ideas just yet. The first season was incredible and the currently airing second season has also been blowing us away and that’s why you need to play catch up if you aren’t already.
