Interview with RON from STEREO DIVE FOUNDATION

RON, thank you very much for this opportunity! It's great to have you back, and congratulations on the 10th anniversary of STEREO DIVE FOUNDATION! Looking back on the past decade, how has your sound evolved since the release of your debut track “Daisy”?

Over the past decade, I’ve written many songs, not only for myself but also as a music producer for others. Through my various experiences as a musician, I feel that the process of translating musical ideas in my head into concrete output has become more refined. I also sense that my creative repertoire has significantly expanded.

Your new album 'STEREO DIVE 03' features a mix of tie-up songs with anime, as well as original tracks. How do you balance the demands of working on anime theme songs with your personal musical vision?

I primarily approach my work in a way that aligns with the anime. From my creative repertoire, I carefully select the musical elements that best suit the series. For parts beyond the first verse that aren’t used in the anime, I sometimes take a more personal approach.

You’ve mentioned that the song '#03', which opens the album, represents your feelings of “looking forward to the future.” Can you explain more about the meaning behind the track and how it ties into your current journey as an artist?

To mark the 10th anniversary, I wanted to include a special touch. By bringing the intro phrase of “Daisy” to the very end, I aimed to express respect for the beginning while also conveying a sense of appreciation for what’s to come.

Given that you’ve worked in many different contexts throughout these years, how have these experiences shaped your musical style and the way you connect with your audience? And how is that reflected in 'STEREO DIVE 03'?

In recent years, I’ve had more opportunities to perform in front of overseas audiences. The song “HIKARI,” which is included in the album, was created specifically as a piece that could be sung together with them. When I performed it live, I truly felt a sense of unity, which was an awesome experience.

Your work as a composer spans multiple genres, from rock to EDM to orchestral arrangements. How do you decide which genre best fits the emotional tone of a song, especially when it’s tied to an anime series?

I generally strive to write music in line with the request. When given full creative freedom, I refer to the script, storyboard, or any available footage to determine the appropriate genre and instruments for the scene.

Do you have any favorite anisong from your own repertory? If so, which one and why?

It’s hard to choose just one, but if I had to, I’d say “STORYSEEKER.” I love both the melody and the arrangement. I put a lot of effort into it, even using custom sampling data that I created myself.

With the 10th anniversary of STEREO DIVE FOUNDATION, what new goals and aspirations do you have for the future of your music and creative journey?

I want to reflect and think about what I truly want to create. I also aim to refine the balance between my own creative desires and external requests while deepening my mindset for pursuing what I love.

We’re sure many Honey’s Anime readers have followed your journey, some from the very beginning. Is there anything you’d like to say to them as we wrap up the interview?

I want to express my gratitude to those who discovered SDF or RON through anime. I’ll continue creating many more songs, so please look forward to them!

Hey! I'm Rod, and when I'm not watching anime or playing video games I'm probably writing about them, but I'm also a graphic and web designer, and I even published a comic book and worked like 4 years for a well-known MMORPG. Curiously, my favorite series are quite different from each other, so I'm still trying to understand what I really like in an anime...
