Things We’re Really Excited to See in Tsukimichi -Moonlit Fantasy- Season 2

Tsuki ga Michibiku Isekai Douchuu (Tsukimichi -Moonlit Fantasy-) took us on one heck of a ride. Frankly, it started off in a very generic manner. Just like a lot of isekai anime, Tsukimichi -Moonlit Fantasy- followed the story of a high schooler who has been transported to another world. He then discovered his latent talents and powers, which very quickly turned him into an overpowered protagonist. Logically, we initially expected this anime to be average at most, but lo and behold, we were wrong. Moonlit Fantasy just got better and better after every episode. Before we knew it, we were already hooked. Now that the first season has ended, we are waiting for the second season with great anticipation. We’re especially excited to see these events.

The School Arc

When it comes to anime with an overpowered protagonist, the school arc is one of the most anticipated arcs. This is especially true when the main character is trying to hide his abilities. Since there are a lot of hormonal students, a good amount genuinely believe they are the best. They, of course, must have something to back their arrogance. It can be a good family background, above-average strength, or being filthy rich. The fun part, however, is seeing them unnecessarily cause trouble for the main character and get their asses handed back to them.

Face-slapping scenes may be fun and exciting, but that’s not the crux of what we’re waiting to see in Moonlit Fantasy’s second season. Since it’s an entirely new setup, wherein even Tomoe and Mio may not be making frequent appearances, there are sure to be a lot of new characters. It’s almost certain that Rembrandt’s daughters are to make contact with Makoto, but we are looking forward to seeing how Makoto will expand his social circle. Given that Makoto will probably be the strongest individual in that school, we’re also very curious to see what else the school can offer him.

Meeting the Heroes

Just before the season ends, Makoto left us a juicy teaser. He told us about the existence of heroes who also came from his original world. Even though he did say that he wouldn’t be meeting them for a good while, that doesn’t necessarily mean they won’t make their debut next season. It’s already a given that those heroes are physically stronger than the typical denizen of this new world. With the goddess’ blessings and help, we wonder just how powerful they are. With Makoto’s nifty trick that can expand his mana pool, can these heroes even hold a candle to Makoto? The biggest question, however, is whether or not they will be Makoto’s friends or foes.

Worldbuilding and Lore

The first season does a great job introducing Makoto. We get to see Makoto’s skills, techniques, backstory, and even morality. We learn that Makoto is a naturally kind character, but he can get pretty nasty when push comes to shove. Nonetheless, the show has expounded on Makoto’s character to the point that we can easily empathize with him. Not only Makoto, Tsukimichi -Moonlit Fantasy- has also done a great job introducing Mio, Tomoe, and Emma. Focusing on these characters proves to be a good decision as the show manages to hook us, but it does come with a drawback.

With all the attention being focused on the characters, Tsukimichi -Moonlit Fantasy- has to cut down on worldbuilding and explaining this world’s lore. Other than a brief explanation on the concept of mana, we know almost nothing about the logic behind the characters’ skills. Although a lot of races are introduced, it barely touches the entire population of this world. The biggest mystery, of course, is the human territory. With Makoto starting to travel and explore the world, however, we are sure to learn more about the world of Tsukimichi -Moonlit Fantasy-’s world!

Final Thoughts

Tsukimichi -Moonlit Fantasy- is undoubtedly one of our favorite anime this summer. Just like countless shows in the past, the first season ends after a dozen episodes. This is something we just can’t get accustomed to. The fact that Moonlit Fantasy ends just when it’s about to get more interesting doesn’t help ease our disappointment. Needless to say, all we can do is patiently wait for the second season to air. Fortunately for us, the second season is already confirmed!

Manga and anime were big parts of my childhood. I grew up watching Yu Yu Hakusho, Slam Dunk, One Piece, and Dragon Ball Z. Those were probably one of the happiest and most carefree days of my life. In fact, most of my values are probably molded by manga. No, that's not an exaggeration.
