Yakusoku no Neverland has been good so far, but now, the band aid has been ripped off and plot lines are all over the place.

We ended last week with Norman accusing Ray of being the one telling mother (Isabella) about everything. We learn his reasoning and Ray drops the front. Things have scaled up fast as Ray agrees to work with Norman on the basis that at most, the three save two more children, ditching the rest of the children because it won’t matter as they slow them down. Norman agrees and has to keep it from Emma... who we learn later has a dangerous storm on her own brewing under her facade. When emma is brought up to speed, she reveals to the two and Don and Gilda, that mother must have a hidden room. The latter two decide to go into Mother’s room, explore, find the hidden door, and just as they discover it, the door to the room opens… cliffhanger!

This show is doing well for itself. While Kakegurui has slowed down a bit this season (with this week being especially disappointing–forreal tho, what was that wasted airtime/space of an episode?–we can only hope for more.) The plot promises to be good as we see storylines diverge. At first, it appeared that only the core three were really going to get a storyline, but now, it’s been revealed that a lot more is at stake. I can’t wait to see who was behind opening mother’s door!

Pets and Family

I’m really enjoying Doukyonin wa Hiza, Tokidoki, Atama no Ue. so far this season. It reminds me of Miira no Kaikata what with its constant references to family and the like using a living creature, which, in this case, is a cat! Haru and Subaru are really getting to know each other and in this week’s episode, they both really start to think about each other as family. First for Subaru, he is reminded of his own family, whom he lost, in Haru. Haru continuously teaches Subaru new things about people and living things, which he would never have learned if he stayed the recluse that he was. He remembers about family trips his mother wanted to take and how much his mother loved animals, even if Subaru himself did not really care for them. It’s cute to see that Subaru is starting to learn more about loving others and how it affects him on a personal level.

For Haru, she’s learning more and more about what it’s like to live with a human and not just live for surviving. She merely viewed Subaru as someone who fed her, which kept her from starving on the streets like she was used to. Even the presence of her little brother in this week’s episode has helped to teach her more about what it means to live with humans and how these small actions in life can benefit both parties. Haru learned the meaning of her name and what she can do to make Subaru happy, which she never seemed to care for before. I think it’s a great, idealistic representation of what pets can do for you in your life.

Under My Umbrella

Love is War’s last episode had it all. After a nice follow up to a previously seen love story, the second act was all about volleyball, and I bet nobody could contain their laugh after that unexpected serve from Miyuki. Well, not actually a serve since he didn’t even hit the ball... Anyways, this was so fresh to see in an anime like this not only because Miyuki and Chika showed that the title character is not even needed to sustain the story, but also because Chika clearly slew this episode and stole the show. More Best Girl Points to her!

Still, the Haykyuu-esque moment was pure comedy, so I felt like some Miyuki vs Kaguya was still very much needed. And there it was, the third act was another awesome war between our witty secret lovers, with the rain to make it all more dramatic. It ended in a tie, but you could feel the tension as they were trying to unmask each other while still wanting to share an umbrella, that very same umbrella that they were trying to hide. Look, I don't know who could win between Miyuki and Kaguya in a situation like that, but I feel like we all can agree that we all win every time Chika appears on screen with her apparently innocent personality. Back to the first short story, Sleuth Chika was great! For me, this week's hot moment is every moment involving Chika, and I kinda wish there was a spin-off anime where we get to see the same stuff but from her point of view. Watch out, Raphtalia, you have some serious competition here!
