With a population of over 2.3 million people and over 80% of the city being students, a special curriculum has been rolled out to help further develop unique esper abilities. Students all placed into one of six levels of ability ranging from esper level 0 (no ability) to esper level 5.

Touma Kamijou is a high school student who lives alone in Gakuen Toshi. He lives a rather unhappy daily life as the power that resides in his right hand allows him to nullify all other esper attacks and is known as ‘Imagine Breaker.’ Just on the verge of failing, he is given the esper level 0 rank. Then one day while he is on summer break, this girl dressed in all white falls from the sky and changes his life greatly. Her name is Index and she is running from the world of magic. Touma is then drawn into situation after situation due to his encounter and association with her…

The first three episodes are interesting because the first makes you wonder if you need to go back to season two and rewatch, but then it hits the ground running in eps 2 and 3 that you stop worrying. Shame we have not seen more than just Kamijou but we are sure the rest of the characters are coming. This writer does have to say that seeing Mikoto suffer from amnesia was painful. We hope she gets her memories back soon and gets back to kicking butt!

Touma Kamijou

Voice Actor: Atsushi Abe

Touma is an extremely average high school student who attends a certain high school in Academy City. He’s a level 0 esper and his grades are terrible, but in times of crisis, he has excellent judgement and decisiveness. Due to having Imagine Breaker in his right arm which allows him to nullify all esper abilities, even good luck itself flees from his young boy. He cannot leave people who are in distress alone and he demonstrates a powerful sense of justice where nothing else matters but those close to him. However this leads to him being frequently dragged into difficulties left and right, forcing him to encounter bloody fights. He is used to fighting much more than his outward appearance may convey.

Index Librorum Prohibitorum

Voice Actor: Yuka Iguchi

Index is a nun from the Anglican Church’s Necessarius. She has long silver hair, green eyes, appears and appears to be a young girl while her actual age is unknown. She wears a pure white, gold embroidered habit that offered her protection from all attacks known as the ‘Walking Church’. She loves to eat and is a ‘hungry nun’ who is always ready to eat. She has perfect memory, and due to the fact that she has 103,000 grimores within her, she is called ‘Index’. She possesses excellent academic skills, but when it comes to science, especially anything having to do with adapting to the use of machines, is more or less zero.

Mikoto Misaka

Voice Actor: Rina Satou

Mikoto is a 14-year-old girl who attends one of the leading top five schools for well-to-do girls in Academy City, Tokiwadai Middle School. Mikoto is the third highest ranking member of the seven Level 5 espers that exist in Academy City and she is known as the ‘electromaster’ due to her skills in controlling electricity. When she puts her powers to use, she has an ability she calls ‘Railgun’ where she can fire a coin at three times the speed of sound. Due to a certain incident where she met Touma, she has this inseparable relationship with him where whenever she meets him, she flares up. She has a straightforward, frank personality which clashes with her well-to-do girl image, and her actions do tend to stand out as well. However she also has a weakness for fashionable things and cute clothes that peeks through from time to time.

Accelerator

Voice Actor: Nobuhiko Okamoto

Accelerator is one of the seven ‘Level 5s’ in Academy City and whose power stands out as the strongest. There is a reason why he is called ‘Accelerator’ and that is due to his ability to freely control vectors known by the same name. He also possesses an incredible amount of calculating power in order to carry it out in reality. He appears to be albino with his red eyes and white hair, but that is because he reflects ultraviolet light. In order to go from ‘the most powerful’ to ‘unrivaled’ he participated in an experiment known as the ‘Level 6 Shift Project’.

Shiage Hamazura

Voice Actor: Satoshi Hino

Shiage was an underling for the organization ITEM and worked doing odd-jobs as well as was a driver for them. He is well-versed in lock picking, document forgery, and every sort of driving skill meaning that the main work he does is transportation. He previously was the leader for the seventh district’s Skill-Out gang, but after the incidents surrounding the ‘Recovery Movement’, he became a founder of the dark side. While he is popular and his skills have alley skills have allowed him to survive through might, he is a coward and due to his inferiority complex because he is a Level 0 esper, he has a very low view of himself. He’s mainly active at night in town, and has a deep connection to Yomikawa from Anti-Skill.
