10. Karin from Dragon Ball

  • Episodes: 153
  • Air Date: February 1986 – April 1989

While looking for the seven Dragon Balls, Bulma runs into Son Goku, a young boy who happens to have one of them. Goku, though, doesn't want to give it to Bulma, as the ball with the four stars wields a sentimental value for him. That's how this unthinkable duo makes a deal: Bulma will let him tag along with her, but in exchange he will let her use the ball's power. This is how the most popular, appreciated, and unforgettable journey begins!

And if Dragon Ball is unforgettable, so are its characters! Karin is our 800-year-old, ultra-wise cat, and probably the coolest in this ranking. He is a martial arts master, and lives on the top of a giant tower. This talking, Japanese cat is very strict, as shown when he trains Gokuu; yet he is a very nice cat, and like all the felines he loves to play lots of tricks.

Upon meeting Luna, Usagi becomes the Moon Guardian – Sailor Moon – with the task of fighting against the enemies who are after the Silver Crystal, and wish to conquer the earth. She won't be alone: four other guardians will help this clumsy girl along her journey initially!

Luna is Usagi's guardian in the form of a black cat with a crescent moon on her forehead. As she is a talking cat, Usagi often considers her fastidious, or picky, but Luna only wishes to protect Usagi and the other Guardians. In fact, she is very wise, giving good advice, and having words of solace during hardships. What's more, when she fakes to be a normal kitty, she's so cute it hurts!

8. Jibanyan from Yokai Watch

  • Episodes: 214
  • Air Date: January 2014 – March 2018

When he is befriended by Keita and Whisper, he moves into their house and immediately shows his true nature: he is mischievous, stubborn, and unconcerned. Yet Jibanyan's antics can win your heart, and you have 214 episodes to enjoy the company of this big, ghostly fur ball!

7. Meowth from Pokémon

  • Episodes: 276
  • Air Date: April 1997 – November 2002

Satoshi's dream is to become a Pokemon trainer, and a Pokemon Master. On his 10th's birthday, he gets the chance to finally leave after choosing one Pokemon who would become his life companion; sadly, the only Pokemon available is an Electric type who doesn't want to stay within the Poke Ball: Pikachu. Satoshi and Pikachu, alongside Kasumi and Takeshi, set off on an epic journey that won't be without hardships. In fact, the infamous Team Rocket is always after them trying to steal other people's Pokemon...

Another fur ball that deserves a mention is Meowth, Team Rocket's mascot Pokemon. Unlike any other ordinary Meowth, he can speak human language and is a very human-like Pokemon. In spite being part of the Team Rocket, it's impossible not to enjoy his company: Meowth acts like a boss, giving Musashi and Koijirou – Jessie and James – orders, coming up with plans, and rarely being taken seriously. However, he is loyal to the team, and it's funny to witness his antics; an iconic cat that needed to be mentioned.

6. Doraemon from Doraemon

  • Episodes: 1787
  • Air Date: February 1979 – March 2005

Doraemon with his four-dimensional pocket able to keep gadgets from the future, will try his best to help Nobita, but all his efforts seem fruitless...

Even if Doraemon is a robotic cat from the future, how could he miss out on this ranking? He is THE cat, the one who probably accompanied everyone's childhood. Doraemon and Nobita's interactions create the funniest gags, and Doraemon's gadgets from the future are usually disastrous. Aside from this, Doraemon is probably the feline friend everyone would love to have: always there in time of need, he could also conjure up gadgets to help you with your homework!

5. Daru from Kanojo to Kanojo no Neko: Everything Flows (She and Her Cat: Everything Flows)

Kanojo to Kanojo no Neko: Everything Flows is a 4-episode rare gem that will steal cat lovers' hearts. Daru is a black cat; he and Miyu grew up together so their bond is very deep. Daru is the narrator of the story, and we see Miyu's life through the loving eyes of her pet cat. Give it a try, as Daru is what pet lovers dream of: a loyal cat who adores his owner, and support her with thoughtful little gestures.

4. Kyou Souma from Fruits Basket

  • Episodes: 26
  • Air Date: July 2001 – December 2001

When Tooru lost her mother, she had to move in with her grandfather. Some circumstances, though, lead Tooru to live in a tent in the woods. One night, coming back from work, Tooru finds her tent buried under a landslide. Yuki and Shigure Souma find Tooru and upon seeing her situation, invite her to move into their house. She agrees, but it's only when she arrives at the Souma house that she discovers the curse affecting Yuki and the others...

Kyou Souma is the one cursed by the spirit of the cat. This means that whenever someone of the opposite gender hugs him, he turns into a red cat. Kyou has a tsundere personality: he is short-tempered, often rude, and impulsive. On the other side, though, there's a cute side of his personality that he doesn't want to show to just everyone. Developing feelings for Tooru, we see this kitty getting all embarrassed, sweet, and docile, too. We really needed a handsome human that can turn into a fluffy fur ball in this ranking!

3. Chi Yamada from Chi's Sweet Home

  • Episodes: 104
  • Air Date: March 2008 – September 2008

One day, Youhei and his mother find a cute kitten named Chi, and they decide to take her home with them right away. However, the apartment's rules don't allow keeping pets; Youhei and his mother go against that rule, and their life together with Chi begins.

Chi's Sweet Home is a real rare gem for cats' lovers. Firstly, each episode is only 3-minute long; secondly the entire amount of 104 episodes revolve around Chi's everyday antics with her new family. Chi is one of the “normal” cat of this ranking: she can't talk, nor she can do magic. She's your typical pet who only wants to play, and be pampered. Yet Chi has a special place in the hearts of the fur balls' lovers!

2. Happy from Fairy Tail

  • Episodes: 175
  • Air Date: Oct 2009 – Mar 2013

Lucy Heartphilia is a traveling mage who decides to join the Fairy Tail wizarding guild in Magnolia Town. There, she meets a boy – Natsu Dragneel – who is looking for Igneel, his missing father. Alongside Natsu, there's Happy, a flying, talking cat. Because of some circumstances, though, Lucy is abducted and on the verge of being sold as a slave. Natsu and Happy save her, the boy offers Lucy to join his team, and so the magical adventure begins!

Technically, Happy is not a cat. He is a cat-like creature called Exceed, but we don't care because this is a ranking made of feline, and Happy is a cute, flying, talking, blue cat! Happy is very loyal to his teammates, and knowledgeable of the Magic world. He is very clever, brash, and even witty. Like every cat, Happy's favorite food is fish, and he doesn't get along with dogs. For his cheerfulness, vivacity, and congeniality, Happy totally deserved our 2nd position!

1. Madara from Natsume Yuujinchou (Natsume's Book of Friends)

  • Episodes: 13
  • Air Date: Jul 2008 – Sep 2008

Takashi Natsume is an orphan who, during his childhood, jumped from a relative to the other. He was defined as “strange”, and the reason is that he can see the spirits. Natsume's life changes when he finds the Book of Friends, a notebook that belonged to his long-gone grandmother Reiko, who could also see the spirits. It's when Natsume meets Nyanko-sensei – Madara – that their journey begins. Natsume will give those spirits written in the book, their names back!

Our first position is a yokai in the form of a fat maneki-neko! Madara, also known as Nyanko-sensei, is a lazy, big eater, drunkard cat. In spite of his current form, he is actually a powerful demon who protects Natsume – only because he wants Natsume's Book of Friends. In spite of the intentions he states, Nyanko-sensei acts like a real guardian, and season after season the relationship between him and Natsume deepens. However, we love Nyanko-sensei for his antics; he has witty comments for everyone, is sarcastic, and never misses a chance to complain over Natsume's doings. Nyanko-sensei and Natsume's constant bickering create the funniest gags!
