Top 10 Cute Female Characters in Gaming [Best Recommendations]

If you’ve been a gamer for any amount of time, chances are you have seen your fair share of “sexy” and “hot” female characters. But what about the CUTE ones? More and more, there are a variety of different girls in video games to appeal to a lot of different tastes, and to keep the designs interesting and different. Of course, these cute girls aren’t any less valuable in the gaming world than the more stereotypical sexy ones that many people imagine when they picture “video game girl.” So here at Honey’s Anime, we decided it was time to make our list of the Top 10 Cute Female Characters in Gaming to make sure these girls had their chance in the spotlight, too.

So what exactly are we using to define cute? Two main factors - the first is her appearance, such as face, hairstyle, and clothes. The second is her personality and character itself. Because cute, sexy, and beautiful are a bit hard to define in general terms as everyone’s taste is varied, we have made 10 selections that fit into the “cute” category as broadly as we can. If a character is popularly known as a sexy one, you’re not going to see her here. Instead, let’s meet some girls that are no less famous, and deserve their recognition as arguably cute!

As a warning, some minor plot details or character stories may be spoiled in this article.

10. Elizabeth from Bioshock Infinite

  • System: Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, OS X, Linux, PlayStation 4, Xbox One
  • Publisher: 2K Games
  • Developer: Irrational Games
  • Release Dates: Mar. 26th, 2013

Elizabeth is a character in Bioshock Infinite, the third game in the Bioshock series. She has the unique ability to access parallel worlds through tears in reality. She’s meant to become the next leader of the floating city Colombia, and her captors trap her there in a high tower guarded by a giant mechanical bird. Playing as Booker DeWitt, your role in the game is to rescue her. Later, Elizabeth also shows up in an episodic download for Bioshock called Burial at Sea, where she takes the role of the femme fatale. She’s also playable in the second episode.

Elizabeth is a cute and classy video game lady. Her dress (or blouse and skirt combo) changes throughout the game, but it’s always a modest, classic style that suits the year the game is set in (1912) and also the steampunk vibes of the Bioshock series. She has long brown hair that she keeps loosely pulled back, big blue eyes, and tasteful makeup. She’s well-read and intelligent as well. Elizabeth is very free-spirited, enjoying dancing and exploring her surroundings. But she’s also mischievous and likes picking locks and similar activities. She’s not afraid to call out Booker when she needs to and has a quick wit. Elizabeth’s years of isolation in Colombia haven’t negatively affected her personality at all, and Elizabeth remains a very classically cute girl.

9. YoRHa No.2 Type B from NieR: Automata

  • System: Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4
  • Publisher: Square Enix
  • Developer: PlatinumGames
  • Release Dates: Feb. 23rd, 2017 (JP), Mar. 7th, 2017 (NA)

YoRHa No.2 Type B, more commonly called 2B, is the main protagonist and playable character of Route A in NieR: Automata. The planet has been invaded by hostile machines, and 2B’s role is to fight them and protect what few humans still remain. She isn’t a human herself though; she’s also a machine and specially designed Android. She is deployed on behalf of the YoRHa infantry ready for battle with a number of weapons at her disposal and has a support pod that allows her to attack from a distance as well. She’s very versatile in battle and can cut through enemy machines with great speed.

Don’t let all those dangerous details give you the wrong image of 2B’s appearance though; she’s actually quite cute! 2B has the form of a girl with a small build with short white hair. She wears a black Lolita-esque dress that flares out at the bottom, black thigh high socks, and heels. One of her most intriguing features is her standard military visor, which covers her eyes almost all the time, making her look like she has a blindfold. 2B’s pale skin completes her goth-loli look. For the most part, 2B has a cold personality, but it matches her appearance. As the game progresses, though, watch for her beginning to open up to her partner, and experience more primal emotions like jealousy and anger. These traits are humanising for her character and add a new depth to this cute, but deadly, video game girl.

8. Midna from the Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

  • System: Wii, GameCube
  • Publisher: Nintendo
  • Developer: Nintendo EAD
  • Release Dates: Nov. 19th, 2006

Midna is one of the main heroes in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. She isn’t human, but rather is a magical being called a Twili. She bands together with Link to try to save Hyrule from falling into the Twilight Realm. Midna is able to control Link when he’s in his wolf-form by using her bright orange hair, which is an original and unique skill idea. There’s a lot more to this sarcastic imp girl than first means the eye, so don’t judge her too quickly. She has a similar role to Navi in Ocarina of Time but is less annoying. Midna has since shown up in later Legend of Zelda games as well and has been a well-received character.

When Midna was first revealed at E3, her gender wasn’t made clear, and many reporters didn’t know how to refer to her. Since the game was released though, we know Midna for what she is - a cute video game girl! Midna was originally a woman with turquoise skin and elaborate markings on her body, but after being cursed, she has been stuck in a really cute imp form. In this form, Midna is short and a bit round, with black and white patterns on her revealed skin. She has a lot of shockingly orange hair, long pointed ears, and a grin that reveals a pointed tooth. Midna comes off early in the game as sarcastic and uncaring, but as the game progresses, she becomes more caring and friendly. That tsundere character type paired with her imp appearance made Midna a cute video game girl for sure!

7. Kat from Gravity Rush

  • System: PlayStation Vita, PlayStation 4
  • Publisher: Sony Computer Entertainment
  • Developer: SIE Japan Studio
  • Release Dates: Feb. 9th, 2012 (JP), Jun. 12th, 2012 (NA)

Kat is the main protagonist of Gravity Rush and it’s sequel. Kat used to be known as Queen Alua, but that was in her distant past. She begins the game as a girl with no memories of this past but quickly embraces her new role as a kind of superhero. She also has the ability of a shifter, meaning she can manipulate gravity itself by using a special creature with black, starry skin. Kat’s creature is called Dusty, and it takes the form of a cat. With Dusty’s help, Kat is able to help the people of the city of Hekseville to fight against creatures called the Nevi that also fight using gravity manipulation. She eventually becomes known as the Gravity Queen and remains a guardian of the city.

Kat is cute both in appearance and personality. She has the looks of a young girl with long, blond hair and tanned skin. She usually wears a one-piece black romper, and her outfit only changes a little in the second game of the series. Kat always wants to help people, as seen in her role as a local superhero. She’s empathetic and sensitive to others in crisis and brave in the face of danger. Despite having her special shifter power, Kat remains down-to-earth and approachable to other people. Kat also loves to eat, and is willing to fight in return for food! If that’s not a cute personality trait, we don’t know what is.

6. Alisa Bosconovitch from Tekken 6

  • System: Arcade, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PlayStation Portable
  • Publisher: Namco Bandai Games (NA), Namco (JP, EU, AU)
  • Developer: Namco Bandai Games
  • Release Dates: Dec. 26th, 2007 (JP), Oct. 27th, 2009 (NA)

Alisa Bosconovitch is one of the two main characters in the scenario campaign of Tekken 6, and she is one of the newer playable characters in the Tekken series. She’s not actually human; rather, she is a creation made by Dr. Boskonovitch in the image of his daughter to protect Jin. As such, she is more android than human, and can detach many of her limbs to attack opponents, had collapsible jetpack wings, and her arms can become chainsaws. Stay with us though; just because she has these killer features doesn’t mean she doesn’t deserve to be on our list of cute video game girls!

After all, being a killer robot doesn’t mean that Alisa can’t be cute, and she certainly is. When she isn’t fighting, her appearance is that of a human girl with short curled two-toned pink hair and green eyes. She wears a short purple dress with flowers and even had flowers in her hair. Alisa always speaks very politely and carries herself in a feminine manner. Having robotic strength, she doesn’t need to have muscles to be incredibly powerful. So Alisa is able to maintain the appearance of a sweet, cute girl... that just happens to be able to kill you by removing her head which doubles as a bomb.

5. Isabelle from Animal Crossing: New Leaf

  • System: Nintendo 3DS
  • Publisher: Nintendo
  • Developer: Nintendo EAD
  • Release Dates: Nov. 8th, 2012 (JP), Jun. 9th, 2013 (NA)

Isabelle is one of your main sources of help in Animal Crossing: New Leaf. When the player becomes the new mayor of the town, Isabelle is there to help and guild the player through the tutorials. And she continues to help throughout the game, of course! She has continued to appear in other Animal Crossing games since New Leaf and even shows up on advertisements in Japan on occasion, too. Despite being a newer character, Isabelle has been well-received and remains a popular NPC from the Animal Crossing series.

Okay, let’s just get this out in the open - yes, Isabelle is a dog. But she is a cute dog for sure! She’s a yellow bipedal dog resembling a Shih Tzu, and her head is shaped like the bag of bells currency the game uses. Plus she wears clothes that change depending on the situation and event she’s attending. Beyond her appearance, Isabelle has a cute personality, too. She’s a bit clumsy and absent minded despite being the main source of help for the player, and she hates any kind of confrontation. She’s incredibly friendly and wants to help anyone she can. So yes, Isabelle is a dog. But she’s also a cute video game girl, all the same, so let’s be as open-minded as Isabelle is!

4. Kairi from Kingdom Hearts

  • System: Playstation 2
  • Publisher: Square
  • Developer: Square
  • Release Dates: Mar. 28th, 2002 (JP), Sep. 17th, 2002 (NA)

Kairi is the main female character in the Kingdom Hearts series. She is one of the three friends you see the story begin with, along with Sora and Riku. When the Heartless attack their island, Sora is swept off on an adventure as a keyblade wielder. But Kairi’s story is very different, and she gets kidnapped and taken away. Alongside several classic Disney princesses, it turns out that Kairi is a Princess of Heart. She is essential to saving the world from the darkness, and her fate is directly tied to the fate of everyone. Though she may be just another princess to be rescued at the start of the series, don’t worry; she gets a much cooler role later.

Kairi is definitely a cute girl, both in her original design, as well as when she starts to grow up a bit in the later games. She’s young when Kingdom Hearts begins, with her reddish hair cut in a short, simple style. Living a relaxing island life, her clothes are simple and cute as well. She just wears a white vest top and a purple skirt. As she grows, Kairi’s hair gets a bit longer, too. She also changes into a pink zip-up vest and shorts complete with nonsensical zippers that everyone in the series has on their clothes. Kairi starts as a damsel in distress but becomes a stronger girl as she learns more about who she is. She remains very feminine and cute and is the most famous girl from the Kingdom Hearts series.

3. Serah Farron from Final Fantasy XIII

  • System: Microsoft Windows, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, iOS, Android
  • Publisher: Square Enix
  • Developer: Square Enix 1st Production Department
  • Release Dates: Dec. 17th, 2009 (JP), Mar. 9th, 2010 (WW)

Serah Farron is the younger sister of her more recognisable sister Lightning, from Final Fantasy XIII. She does spend most of the first game in the series frozen in crystal, and only appears in flashbacks from Lightning and Snow’s past. But in Final Fantasy XIII-2, she becomes one of the two playable main characters. She fights alongside Noel to help set the timelines in order again, defeating monsters and solving puzzles while travelling through time. Serah has been through a lot, but it has all served to make her stronger.

Serah is the sister that is more likely to be described as “cute.” She has a few of the same features as her older sister, such as her light pink hair and slender build. But Serah keeps her hair in a cute side ponytail. Her original outfit is a simple blouse and tartan skirt, giving her a school girl aesthetic. Later, she wears a pink and white dress and pink thigh highs. While the dress does have sexy cut-outs, on Serah, it still looks cute more than hot! Serah is usually smiling and keeps a very optimistic and positive attitude, even when those around her do not. She cares deeply about other people, especially Lightning, and is willing to fight to protect them despite that being out of character for her.

2. Noel Vermillion from BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger

  • System: Arcade, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable, Xbox 360, Microsoft Windows
  • Publisher: Arc System Works (JP), Aksys Games (NA)
  • Developer: Arc System Works
  • Release Dates: Nov. 20th, 2008 (arcade), June 30th, 2009 (platform)

BlazBlue has a complicated story to put things mildly, but it also has a few cute and sexy ladies. The cutest one is arguably Noel Vermillion, so let’s focus on her. Noel’s story is a bit of a sad one since she was created rather than born, putting her at only about five years old. Her personality is very human and feminine though, which pairs nicely with her girlish looks and cute face. She is both playable in the game and also an opponent, and has her own storyline to discover. Don’t miss her gag endings as well in the games - they make her even cuter!

Noel Vermillion is the classic definition of a cute girl. Everything from her appearance to her character is cute. She has long blond hair she usually keeps hidden under a cap, big green eyes, and varying short skirts and dresses. Sometimes she even dresses as a nun! While her appearance is already cute, Noel’s interests and personality are what put her so high on our list. She loved cute animals and is terrified of insects. She is shy and always apologises for herself and what she does, in a high, feminine voice nonetheless. Noel is often self-conscious, especially about her small breasts, but she always tries her best to help people and care for them.

1. Princess Peach from Super Mario Bros.

  • System: Nintendo Entertainment System
  • Publisher: Nintendo
  • Developer: Nintendo R&D4
  • Release Dates: Sep. 13th, 1985

Gamers of all ages know who Princess Peach is. After all, she’s one of Nintendo’s most famous characters, and arguably the most recognisable female. Even non-gamers probably know who she is, or at least that she is one of the girls from the Mario series. With that kind of fame comes a lot of pressure, but Peach has stood up to it for years! She’s undergone many transformations as video games have evolved and technology has gotten better, but her basic design has remained the same. And it’s time-tested, showing Nintendo did something right when they created Princess Peach.

That super recognisable and iconic design is part of what makes Peach so cute! Between her puffy pink dress, blonde girls, and crown she’s the picture of a stereotypical princess. When you add to that her high-pitched, feminine voice you can hear in many later Mario games, well. You can’t help but call her cute! Girls (and boys) of all ages are drawn to Peach, and even though her design might not be the most innovative, it’s proven that its simplicity remains popular. Peach is likely to be with us as a cute video game girl for a long time to come.
