Expressing your love to someone is certainly not the easiest thing to accomplish. However, if we’ve learned anything from anime, we know that for anime characters like Ueno-san the task can be even harder! Ueno-san wa Bukiyou is a romance comedy with an emphasis on making you laugh watching Ueno try her best to woo fellow club member Tanaka in some of the most brazenly weird ways we’ve ever seen in any anime. From episode one’s pee drinking experiment—yes you read that right—to episode three’s weird way of asking someone’s levels of perversion while being censored by space-like bars on their nude bodies. Ueno-san wa Bukiyou seems to want to be the most random rom-com ever seen and so far, its accomplishing that task without trying too hard. For those who like more adult romance comedies in anime form—and also like shows that are only eleven minutes per episode—we recommend trying out Ueno-san wa Bukiyou!

Ueno

Voice Actor: Yuu Serizawa

Ueno is a third-year middle school student and the head of the science club. Using bizarrely genius inventions, she is trying her best to get fellow club member Tanaka to notice her.

Tanaka

Voice Actor: Aimi Tanaka

Tanaka is a second-year middle school student and a science club member. He is the only member of the science club who has some semblance of common sense, but he is beyond pure when it comes to romance, and so thinks that he is just helping Ueno in her experiments with romance.

Yamashita

Voice Actor: Akari Kageyama

Akari is a first-year middle school student and a science club member. She has already surmised that Ueno is making moves on Tanaka and has devoted herself fully to helping Ueno, but she has times where she can get angry or be strict with the innocent Tanaka. She is the youngest member of the club, but she is the one most able to be calm and prepared about things.

Mizuna Tanaka

Voice Actor: Nichika Oomori

Mizuna is the younger twin of the two Tanaka sisters and a first-year middle school student. Her favorite thing to eat are the fillings of Japanese sweets.

Yomogi Tanaka

Voice Actor: Miku Itou

Yomogi is the older of the two Tanaka sisters and also a first-year middle school student. Her favorite flavor is anything chocolate.

Tamon

Voice Actor: Shiori Izawa

Tamon is the mascot created from the invention: ‘salmon start.’ It used to be a part of tights that Ueno-san wore.
