What’s In the Box
Perhaps the most important thing about a product is making sure that you’re receiving everything that’s needed in the package, and we’re about to unveil it to you right here. Let’s start off with the specs. The HyperX Cloud Alpha S Gaming Headset comes equipped with:
Packaging Contents:
The most appealing aspect of the packaging contents are the additional cloth ear cushions which help to provide comfort while playing for long periods. Having an extra pair comes in handy in case the default pair start to show signs of wear and tear. The Cloud Alpha S Gaming Headset is also PC compatible so that PC gamers can spend hours on end without much issues.
Comfort is Everything
If there’s one pivotal point that should be noted when discussing headsets, comfort most certainly comes to the forefront. When playing games for long periods of time many of us are in search of comfort to ensure that our gaming experience is a relaxing one. Oftentimes we’ve worn headsets that, after an hour or so of wearing them, we start to feel a bit of pain around the backsides of the ears. This discomfort ultimately leads to other things like sharp headaches and just overall irritation. Fortunately for us, ergonomically speaking, the HyperX Cloud Alpha S feels extremely comfortable even after hours of grinding away in Monster Hunter World: Iceborne on the PlayStation 4. We did try the headset out as well with the Nintendo Switch (Smash Bros. Ultimate), as well as PC and overall the sound quality totally blew us away. We’ll get to performance in just a moment but to wrap things up in this department, comfort goes a long way and the Cloud Alpha S Gaming Headset proves that with its very fitting ear pieces and flexible head notch.
Performance is Everything
So while comfort certainly comes first in the realm of gaming, overall performance is a major selling point whether you keep the headset on or not. When playing Monster Hunter World: Iceborne the sounds that every monster would make sounded absolutely clear and really provided a deeper sense of immersion while playing. Every small sound in the background such as birds chirping or small animals scurrying through the bushes could be heard, which only created a more realistic ambience. This was never possible with our earphones which was able to pick up on some things but not all, so this was a huge plus for us. The added 7.1 custom-tuned surround sound also helped since it made you feel like you were right there in the moment. We didn’t just try the headset out on games but music as well, since the headset does provide bass adjustment sliders to really feel every beat and rhythm as you play. We turned the volume up to max to test out how powerful the bass is and wow, it totally blew us away how crisp it sounded. Not only that but the headset provides somewhat of a rumble and so when the bass really starts to hit you really do feel it, much like you would if you were sitting in a car with the subwoofers right next to you.
The microphone quality was pretty good as well though we didn’t find many opportunities to really get a good feel for things. With the experiences that we did have however they were great and didn’t really encounter any major issues that created discomfort.
Honey’s Final Thoughts
So in the end, HyperX did a spectacular job of designing an ergonomically friendly device that not only provides great comfort, but remarkable sound output as well. The Cloud Alpha S Gaming Headset is not only sturdy but comes neatly packaged with a snazzy travel bag so that players on the go can travel in style. Some other small added features that we do like is the 7.1 surround sound button on the audio control mixer lights up to let you know that it’s turned on, along with a red light indicator to let you know when your mic is turned on or off. The bass adjustment sliders are very easy to use and only require a simple flick to ensure the best performance that caters to your tastes, along with the detachable mic for those who prefer to just use the headset alone.
