Where, Oh Where Are The Ecchi Anime This Spring 2021?

Spring 2021 has been amazing for the otaku community as a whole as there have been several truly amazing anime airing! If you want some wickedly good action series you could check out 86 and/or Vivy: Fluorite Eye’s Song. Those who love romance/drama will no doubt love the lengthy named Higehiro: After Being Rejected, I Shaved and Took in a High School Runaway and the epic conclusion to one of our favorite anime Fruits Basket: The Final. However, those who want ecchi themed, series will no doubt have noticed there is literally only one series considered ecchi that is airing this spring. The second season to How Not to Summon a Demon Lord is the only actual ecchi series out this spring 2021 and that makes us wonder…where are all the ecchi series hiding this season!?

ONLY ONE SERIES FOR ECCHI

We weren’t kidding earlier when we spoke of only one series having any complete ecchi focus. How Not to Summon a Demon Lord Ω is the only 100% series deemed ecchi out there this season and that means if you didn’t like the first season…you’re kind of out of luck. Making matters worse, How Not to Summon a Demon Lord Ω hasn’t been that great overall and while it does have a lot of ecchi—you can find oppai shower scenes and panty shots galore in this season—the story is pretty weak versus the first season.

Why the Lack of Ecchi?

Many of you oppai/pantsu-loving anime viewers might be panicking as this lack of ecchi season could spell the end of the genre forever. Well, in our opinions here at Honey’s Anime, this lack of ecchi makes sense. If you examine the last four or five seasons of anime you’ll notice the ecchi genre was pretty jam-packed. There was Gleipnir, Food Wars: The Fifth Plate, The Hidden Dungeon Only I Can Enter and Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation. This is just naming the few “well-received” ecchi anime as there are even more shows that aired in the last year of anime. As much as we love our big oppai and seeing girls’ undergarments revealed for no reason, we equally do love other genres too. Too much cake leads to a stomach ache and too much ecchi leads to nosebleeds that could cause dizzy spells.

Don’t Wait for Summer 2021

We know many of you probably are already scrambling to My Anime List and their seasonal section to see if the summer will bring out more ecchi series but we have sad news for you otaku out there. Sadly, summer 2021 doesn’t look like it will have many ecchi series either and that is truly worrying. Don’t give up hope yet though readers. Anime is a constantly changing world and while we don’t see a lot of series announced yet, there could be a shift and various shows could release with an ecchi focus.

Kind of Ecchi but Not Ecchi

Now don’t fret if you are truly worried you won’t get your fill of giant oppai or scantily clad anime ladies this season. There is ecchi to be found, just not where you might think to find it. Several anime have some not-so-hidden ecchi in the form of lingerie scenes and large oppai reveals. Full Dive has one of our favorite anime girls of spring 2021—Reona Kisaragi—showing her giant assets almost every episode. There are also numerous ecchi shots in Don’t Toy With Me, Miss Nagatoro thanks to the playful main female lead Hayase Nagatoro. You might not find tons of nosebleed-inducing series this spring 2021 but there are just enough to tantalize your perverted anime hearts.

Final Thoughts

Folks, here’s the reality of anime. Every season can’t be filled with one genre above the rest. Many anime seasons cater to diversifying genres so all audiences can find their favorites. Unfortunately, sometimes a specific genre takes a minor hit and only a few will release. While ecchi was the unfortunate genre to be hit with only a few anime this spring 2021 that doesn’t mean it will never come back. Ecchi will always return as oppai are a guarantee in the world of anime.

Now, here’s a question for you readers out there. Were you sad there weren’t many ecchi series released this spring 2021? Comment below with your thoughts! For more coverage of all things anime keep stuck to our amazing hive here at Honey’s Anime!
