Discussion Time
Our latest chapter of Yakusoku no Neverland—chapter 158 specifically—was kind of scary in a multitude of ways. The beginning of this chapter shows a young Mujika who we learn was given a strange power. Regardless of who she ate/devoured, Mujika wouldn’t change form. Even not eating human meat, Mujika kept her intellect and form which we know is something all demons worry about, losing who they are and their form from starvation. Having this gift allowed Mujika to see a different side of the world and as she ran for freedom to avoid being abused for her skill, she began to understand what it means to be different.
By page 4 we’re back in the heat of battle with Sonju facing down the queen and holding his own. Mujika interrupts the fight wondering why the queen is starving despite eating beyond the needs of her form. She even pities the queen for her insatiable need to devour. Then we learn a shocking truth…the queen despite seeming to be alive is indeed dead. While she was holding her form using the second core, the dead she consumed were filled with poison and she devoured a ginormous amount of entities. The queen attempts to show she’s far from dead as Mujika claims but we begin to see various demons and forms escape from the queen’s form screaming out their names. The queen’s form begins to burst into a mass of goo and Mujika proclaims she will change the world bidding the queen a final farewell. Finally, the queen seems to be no more and from here our heroes should be able to figure out their next moves. However, with this arc at its close, we fear that soon our beloved Yakusoku no Neverland series has indeed begun to reach its final pages! Until this ill-fated day let’s continue our review of this series chapter by chapter and focus today on the moments we loved from chapter 158!
1. Mujika’s Reason for Living
There has been no doubt that Mujika is considered a special demon but this 158th chapter of Yakusoku no Neverland has explained why. Unlike the other demons, Mujika doesn’t need to consume human flesh to continue keeping her identity and this might be what is needed to save other demons like her. How will Mujika spread such a powerful gift now that her life should be in less danger? We’re sure to find out in the upcoming chapters!
2. Finally, the Queen is Gone
Okay, chapter 158 of Yakusoku no Neverland has finally confirmed the queen is dead…this time for good. That scene showing the various characters who were devoured—like Geelan, Krone and Michelle—proves the queen has lost her form as well as identity. Her form breaking down into goo-like corpses should also be enough to confirm the queen has perished finally. We can finally rest as the queen’s tyranny is over!
Final Thoughts
Yakusoku no Neverland 158 has finally removed the biggest—previously unseen—enemy in the form of the queen. Now our kids and demon allies need to make moves to change the world for the better! How will this align with Emma’s promise to the God-like demon with the unknown name? We have so many questions in our minds but one thing we know for certain…the series is ending soon.
