5 Anime Waifus We've Already Fallen For This Summer

The Summer 2021 anime season is well underway by now, so it’s time to highlight some of our favorite new waifus that we’ve been blessed with. After all, without waifus, would anime truly be worth watching? We must pay them their due respect, so without further delay, let’s take a look at the girls of Summer 2021 that we’ve already fallen for!

5. Alice Lendrott from Shinigami Bocchan to Kuro Maid (The Duke of Death and His Maid)

If your favorite type of girl is one who relentlessly teases her senpai with dirty jokes and silly antics just to get under his skin (a la Uzaki or Nagatoro), you’ll love Alice from The Duke of Death and His Maid. The difference here is that the Duke is cursed to kill anything he touches, so Alice’s teasing is more of a bittersweet gesture toward the relationship they can never have than just pure ecchi comedy. She’s really cute and genuine, and we love her for that.

4. Siesta from Tantei wa Mou, Shindeiru. (The Detective is Already Dead)

Siesta is a hyperintelligent detective who always keeps a cool head in any situation and can somehow think so far ahead of her opponent that even Lelouch vi Britannia wouldn’t be able to keep up. We enjoy the banter she gets into with her “sidekick” Kimihiko (really just a normal shmuck she pressganged into her service because dangerous events tend to follow him), her sweet but domineering personality, and her nonchalant attitude towards the ridiculous situations she finds herself in. Of course, since the title of the anime is The Detective is Already Dead, something bad is bound to happen to her...

3. Fena Houtman from Kaizoku Oujo (Fena: Pirate Princess)

Even though we haven’t seen much of her yet, Fena Houtman is already one of our favorite girls of the season. She’s intelligent and creative enough to evade her captors, never backs down from a challenge (especially when someone underestimates her), and will surely make for a great pirate once she sets out on her journey. She also rocks a wide variety of outfits and hairstyles while still being recognizable as her same adorkable self, so cosplayers will have plenty of options for portraying her!

2. Susanna Randall from Otome Game no Hametsu Flag shika Nai Akuyaku Reijou ni Tensei shiteshimatta... X (My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom! X)

You know what the female roster of My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom was missing last season? A voluptuous oneesan who’s both a master of disguise and a fanatic of magical research. Whether or not Susanna falls for Catarina like everyone else remains to be seen, but we’re already in love with her effortless style and seductive demeanor. Will Catarina be drawn in by her charms as well...?

1. Dominique de Sade from Vanitas no Carte (The Case Study of Vanitas)

Dominique is somehow both a suave, sadistic vampire who strikes fear into the hearts of men and also a complete dork who carts around a rose petal-spewing robot for all of her dramatic entrances. Strutting around in a gorgeously masculine knight uniform, she swears to protect her childhood friend Noé from any harm, up to and including that suspicious human Vanitas who he’s been following around lately. It’s intriguing to see both Domi’s intense, vicious side as well as the sweet side that she only shows to her closest companions—we wonder... will Vanitas ever see that side of her?

Final Thoughts

We also love Jeanne from The Case Study of Vanitas, Sarasa from Opera Girl, and Aki from Remake Our Life. But what other waifus from this season have captured your heart? Let us know in the comments, and thanks so much for reading!

After the hard-hitting East Coast lifestyle hit me a bit too hard, I started pursuing my passion as a writer in my cozy home state of Ohio. Aside from that, I spend my time cooking, cosplaying, collecting anime merch, and being an improv comedy actor. I also love sneaking alliterations and stupid puns into my writing, so be on the lookout for them! 😉
