5 Hidden Anime Gems from Summer 2021

The summer season has reached its mid-point and that means many anime have also aired across the land! As per usual, our busy hive here at Honey’s Anime has noticed some anime series not being noticed by the general public. These various series are truly entertaining and shockingly good but somehow are being passed up by most anime viewers. Luckily, as fellow otaku, our job is to make sure you readers find the best anime to watch and that’s why this article is here for you. Here are some hidden gems from the summer 2021 season!

5. Bokutachi no Remake (Remake Our Life!)

Kyouya Hashiba’s life hasn’t been going according to plan as of late. After leaving his mundane office job, Kyouya tried his hands in the gaming industry which didn’t last too long when his internship was shot down quickly. At the age of 28, Kyouya has begun questioning his choices in life and finding the answers not to his liking. Then, one morning, Kyouya wakes up to discover he has returned to his 18-year-old body! Now given a new lease on life, Kyouya begins making new moves in his schooling and finds himself aligning with others who have big dreams despite how difficult those dreams might be.

Remake our Life! asks the age-old question, what would you do with a second chance in life? At times serious and other times whimsical, Remake our Life! is truly a fun series that is being shadowed by other anime this summer 2021 season. What’s even better is Remake Our Life! isn’t an isekai—which there are a lot of this season—and instead is just a bit more realistic of a premise. Well...as realistic as being shot back in time can be at least.

4. Kageki Shoujo!! (Kageki Shojo!!)

Being given a great talent doesn’t always mean you automatically will become famous and well-known. Like those who walk through the doors of the Kouka Revue Music School, talent needs to be forged and proven. Sarasa Watanabe is the 100th generation to enter this illustrious school and if she wants to be part of the popular musical troupe, she will need to show her worth! The music school life is about to begin in Kageki Shojo!!

Musical anime can be off-putting to many but Kageki Shojo!! has intrigued us here at Honey’s Anime. This beautifully animated series has impressed us with its visuals and has a surprising amount of depth when it comes to showing the world of idols and the music industry. These characters have some real-world issues and their struggles are quite shocking to witness. Kageki Shojo!! could be one of the more shocking drama anime of the summer 2021 season and that’s why we need more otaku to watch alongside with us!

3. Megami-ryou no Ryoubo-kun (Mother of the Goddess’ Dormitory)

At the age of 12, Nagumi Koushi has found himself homeless and without any parental guidance. After his dad left and his home burned to the ground, Nagumi has roamed the streets praying to find a shelter to call home. Suddenly, a young girl finds Nagumi and decides to bring him to her college dorm to recuperate. Calling herself Mineru Wachi, this college student begs Nagumi to become the dormitory’s mother but can a young boy control a bunch of women who are all female college students!?

As unrealistic as it might be for a 12-year-old to be given the chance to be around college girls, Mother of the Goddess’ Dormitory has still become one of our favorite ecchi shows of the summer. Filled with ecchi and laugh-out-loud moments, Mother of the Goddess’ Dormitory has somehow passed by everyone’s anime radar! Those who need their seasonal ecchi fix need to check out this wickedly fun anime as soon as humanely possible!

2. Shiroi Suna no Aquatope (The aquatope on white sand)

Gama Gama Aquarium is about to close after the summer due to lack of funds from a general lack of admission. Kukuru Misakino—the director’s granddaughter—wishes to earn enough income for Gama Gama to stay open but finds she has few options. Meanwhile, former idol Fuuka Miyazawa has become aimless after leaving the spotlight but has wandered into Gama Gama with a desire to help keep the cozy establishment alive! Can the two women unite their various skills and save the failing aquarium or will Gama Gama see its fish swim away after this hot summer…

Legendary studio P.A. Works has crafted some fine anime series like Angel Beats, A Lull in the Sea, and Shirobako but The aquatope on white sand might be one of their greatest works as of recently. Stunning animation/art and a fun story of friendship and dreams, The aquatope on white sand has made us smile every episode aired so far! You’ll be doing yourself a disservice if you don’t check out before the summer season ends!

1. Night Head 2041

Naoto and Naoya Kirihara have lived their lives in a scientific facility due to their special abilities. When a chance for escape appears before the brothers, they run for their lives hoping for sweet freedom. Now on the run, the brothers will need to try to outrun various threats including another pair of brothers who share similar abilities. A supernatural battle begins in the world of Night Head 2041!

Night Head 2041 was an unknown series to us here at Honey’s Anime despite it being an adaptation of a famous 1990s TV show of a similar name. When we finally began watching Night Head 2041 we realized this show has a lot of potential despite being CGI. Filled with epic supernatural battles, Night Head 2041 needs more love from the anime community. Yes, it might be CGI but we think the animation is pretty great and the story even better!

The summer is nearing its end but that doesn’t mean time is running out for watching some great anime shows! Hey everyone I’m Aaron Curbelo or Blade as I’m called by my YouTube Subscribers. I’ve been an anime/manga fan since I was a young kid. In terms of anime I have watched nearly a thousand shows and have read hundreds of manga series. I love writing and honestly was so happy to join Honey’s Anime to get a shot to write articles for such a wonderful site. I’m a firm believer in respect in the anime community being the most important embodiment we should all have. We all love anime and we have varying opinions of series but we should respect one another for those differences! Life is too precious to spend it making needless arguments in a community that should be the shining example of loving an amazing medium. I hope as a writer for Honey’s Anime I can bring you folks some amazing articles to read and enjoy!
