Kanata no Astra Preview (Astra: Lost in Space) (No Spoilers)

In the not too distant future, nine students embark on what’s supposed to be a fun camping trip on a foreign planet. Resident tsundere Quitterie is annoyed that her younger sister is allowed to tag along, but that quickly becomes the least of her worries when everyone is attacked by a mysterious white orb and transported into deep space, more than 5000 light-years away from Earth. They commandeer an abandoned spaceship and plot a course to get home, but the students have to learn to work together in order to make the plan a success and find out how they got stranded in the first place.

Quitterie Raffaeli Highlights (Spoilers Beyond This Point)

1. Her Negative Tsundere Traits Don’t Last Long

The “tsun” side of a tsundere can get annoying very quickly if not handled properly, so luckily, Quitterie’s standoffishness and rude attitude are toned way down after just a few episodes. She starts off as an aloof rich girl who complains about everything and “isn’t here to make friends”, but these are just defense mechanisms that developed from her neglectful upbringing. After a sobering scare where her younger sister Funicia almost dies on an alien planet, she opens up to the others and scales back her “tsun” traits to a manageable level.

2. She’s a Lovely Tan Angel

All of the girls in Kanata no Astra have top-tier adorable designs, but we particularly love Quitterie for her gal aesthetic. She rocks a brightly colored spacesuit, deep tanned skin, blonde hair, and the all-important tsundere twintails atop her head. When her spacesuit helmet is up, her hair collects at its base in cute little swirls – such a nice detail! And, of course, we can’t forget the mini star pin on her headband that matches her little sister.

3. She’s the Medical Expert of the Crew

Quitterie has a whole plan in mind for the future—graduate school, marry her crush Zack, and become a doctor. To prepare for that last part, she’s been reading medical textbooks ever since she was a small child. So, once the crew is stranded in space, she assumes the role of shipboard nurse and uses what knowledge she has to keep everyone in good shape. Alien diseases are mostly outside her realm of expertise, but at least she has a good bedside manner!

4. She Cares for Her Sister

She doesn’t act like it at first, but Quitterie loves her sister Funicia with all her heart. Her mother adopted the child and basically forced Quitterie to take care of her out of neglect, so she has some built-up resentment toward Funicia for making her life even more difficult than it already was. However, once Funicia gets lost in an alien forest and Quitterie and Kanata just barely manage to save her, she realizes that her sister is more precious than anything else in the world.

5. She’s the Shipper on Deck for Every Possible Pairing

Quitterie keeps a close eye on everyone’s love lives, taking great pleasure in watching crushes develop among the Astra’s crew. She recently enjoyed commenting on Luca and Ulgar’s blossoming relationship, but her main obsession is Aries’ obvious love for Kanata. Because Aries and Kanata are somewhat oblivious, Quitterie goes out of her way to engineer romantic scenarios for them. After all, if she doesn't give them a little extra help, how will they ever get to the point of confessing to each other?

Final Thoughts

We love Quitterie for her charming design, likable tsundere personality, and nosiness regarding other people’s love lives. We can’t wait to see what she gets up to next!

What did you think of our overview? What do you like about Quitterie? Do you think she’s a well-written tsundere? Let us know in the comments, and thanks so much for reading!
