In the near future, it’s only natural that humanity has migrated to space. Nine kids decided to set out on a journey to camp on a planet. They set out on their space journey with their hearts beating in anticipation, but reality is much more beyond what they expected...!?

If you could combine Nickelodeon’s 1990’s hit Space Cases, The Breakfast Club, and Star Trek Voyager and put it into an anime, then you pretty much got Kanata no Astra. Within three episodes, a majority of the focus has been the relationships between the cast members due to their vastly different personalities. The first three episodes do a great job of showing Kanata’s motivations as to why he wants to be part of the space camp and why he’s willing to put himself in harms way when his crew mates are in trouble. With Zack, the science wiz, though we don’t know much about his background at this point, the series also does a great job of presenting his role. As for the rest of the cast, the first three episodes do enough to show what their personalities and motivations are as they barely begin their 5,000 light year journey back home.
