Although Karakai Jouzu no Takagi-san doesn't focus on video games, there are many similarities between it and High Score Girl. The characters Karakai Jouzu no Takagi-san are very similar and play similar roles in their relationships. Takagi and Oono are skilled at their hobbies and always get what they want from their male counterparts by using unconventional means. Nishikata and Yaguchi are unpopular and experience an abrupt change in their lives when they meet Takagi and Oono respectively. The stories of both anime follow as the two pairs grow closer together going from slight annoyances in the male character's point of few to a much deeper bond. Keita Amano has been living an uneventful high school life due to being engrossed in the world of video games. One day, while shopping for new games, Keita bumps into a girl from his school who is known as the school's idol, Karen Tendou. After seeing Keita's pure love for video games, Tendou invites him to join her video game club at school. Keita jumps at the chance but is scared away when he sees how intense the members of the club were and ends up turning down the offer. Despite being turned down, Tendou continues to pursue Keita in hopes of getting him to join the club.

Filled with video games, romance, and comedy, Gamers! is the closest thing to High Score Girl in terms of setting and story. Both anime spend a large amount of time focusing on video games and looking into the culture of gaming with their video game loving main characters. With the characters love of video games carrying both anime forward, they give off similar story vibes despite Keita and Yaguchi's different approaches to appreciating and enjoying video games. Both anime also have a number of comedic situations that revolve around video games and the main characters relationship with video games. Gamers! focuses a lot more on the romantic aspects than High Score Girl does, but both anime feel very similar and include plenty of video game related homages for you to enjoy.

3. Danna ga Nani wo Itteiru ka Wakaranai Ken (I Can't Understand What My Husband Is Saying)

Kaoru Tsunashi is an ordinary office worker that just so happens to be married to an otaku. Her otaku husband Hajime Tsunashi, makes a living off of his blog and rarely leaves the house. Despite being complete opposites, they managed to fall in love as Kaoru and Hajime show that love is deeper and more complex than most people would think. Surrounded by friends that have their own personal quirks, Kaoru and Hajime live a life filled with love and crazy random adventures.

Despite having a short run time, Danna ga Nani wo Itteiru ka Wakaranai Ken is able to give you a great viewing experience similar to that of High Score Girl with its comedy. Both Danna ga Nani wo Itteiru ka Wakaranai Ken and High Score Girl have strange comedic styles that deviate from your typical comedic anime. Focusing on the relationships between Oono and Yaguchi and Kaoru and Hajime, the Danna ga Nani wo Itteiru ka Wakaranai Ken and High Score Girl create plenty of interesting comedic situations for the characters revolving around the characters hobbies and the bond between them. The side characters also get to be heavily involved with the comedy and often get to really go crazy with the strange things they do. Outside of the comedy, both anime also have great stories and themes surrounding the bonding of the main characters and how deeply they come to care about each other.

4. Tonari no Seki-kun (Tonari no Seki-kun: The Master of Killing Time)

Rumi Yokoi is a hard-working student that does her best to pay attention in class, but she is constantly being bothered by her classmate Toshinari Seki. Instead of focusing on class, Seki has mastered the art of wasting time and always finds new ways to goof off in class. Seki always creates new and interesting activities in order to have some fun in class. Despite Rumi's attempts to resist paying attention to what Seki is doing, she always finds herself drawn into his latest game which ultimately leads to her getting into trouble.

Both Tonari no Seki-kun and High Score Girl focus on the characters bonding over different activities. The relationship between the main characters of Tonari no Seki-kun is very similar to the relationship seen in High Score Girl. The main characters start off with by forming a sort of rivalry not caring very much for each other, but this quickly turns into a friendship. Although Rumi and Seki don't grow as close as Oono and Yaguchi, the bonding process they go through gives off the same feelings. Oono and Seki never talk during their anime, leaving the viewer to experience their emotions through the different sounds and expressions they make. This adds a bit of depth to the anime as they show off the bonds the characters are able to form despite being silent.

5. Ojisan to Marshmallow (Ojisan and Marshmallow)

Habahiro Hige is an office worker who has a love for Tabekko marshmallows. His coworker Iori Wakabayashi takes a liking to Habahiro and develops feelings for him. Iori decides to take advantage of his love for marshmallows and uses them to tease Habahiro in various ways in order to spend time with him. Although nobody can understand why Iori has feelings for Habahiro, she still goes out of her way to try to get Habairo's attention.

The similarities between Ojisan to Marshmallow and High Score Girl can be seen in the characters and their budding relationship. Habahiro's love for marshmallows and Yaguchi's love for video games both make them strange amongst their peers, but it is through their love for these things that they are able to befriend and develop deep bonds with people. Although Ojisan to Marshmallow goes about building up the characters’ relationship in a much more comedic and lighthearted way, both sets of characters end up feeling very similar with the not only the way they bond together but also in the way they interact with one another. Ojisan to Marshmallow and High Score Girl also both have similar comedic styles that go perfectly with the rest of the anime.

6. Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun (Monthly Girls' Nozaki-kun)

Chiyo Sakura finally found enough courage to confess her feelings to her longtime crush Umetarou Nozaki. However, Nozaki mistakes her confession as Chiyo asking for his autograph he gives it to her. Chiyo learns that Nozaki is actually a manga shoujo mangaka that works under the pen name Sakiko Yumeno. Thanks to their first meeting, Nozaki decides to ask Chiyo for her help because she is a decent artist herself. This gives Chiyo an opportunity to become Nozaki's assistant as she tries her best to get the oblivious Nozaki to realize she has feelings for him.

At first glance, Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun may not seem like it has many similarities with High Score Girl, but both anime actually have quite a bit in common. The main characters in both anime are able to bond together over a shared interest and a misunderstanding. With Nozaki mistaking Chiyo's confession for her asking for his autograph and the various misunderstandings over the first three times Yaguchi and Oono play games together, both sets of characters get set up in similar manners. The characters than bond over their hobbies as they grow closer together. Both shows also have a decent amount of interesting information surrounding the focus of the anime, manga for Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun and video games for High Score Girl.
