In the story of Btooom! Ryouta finds himself in the midst of a game of death, where every choice he makes can either make or break his entire existence. Ryouta ends up being transported from the video game world which he had such a love for, onto a mysterious island filled with killers out for his head, and their own survival. An unknown individual sought out to recreate the ultra violet Btooom, and equipped every player with special explosives called BIM. His video game fantasy soon turns into a deadly reality, as he now must use the power of the embedded crystal in his hand, equipped with various tools of his own to not only escape this island, but to stay alive.

Life can be a bore at times, where all you wish to do is sit back and cleanse your mind with a few hours of gaming. That's what Ryouta loved doing until he realized the game now became his only means to live. Ryouta finds himself having to use every tactic in the book in order to stay alive, and to obtain BIM before everyone else. Every encounter could be his last just like Sora and his sister, as they traverse through a world they know all too well, but aren't prepared for the deadly ordeals that are about to transpire before them. Not only has the game become more real, they have to defeat the game in order to live and that's no easy feat when you're up against enemies far more brutal than you imagined.

Kazuto Kirigaya, nicknamed "Kirito," is among the lucky few enthusiasts who get their hands on the first shipment of Sword Art. He logs in to find himself, with ten-thousand others, in the scenic and elaborate world of Aincrad, one full of fantastic medieval weapons and gruesome monsters. However, the players soon realize they cannot log out, as the game's creator decides to trap them in his new world until they complete all one hundred levels of the game. In order to escape Aincrad, Kirito will now have to interact and cooperate with his new found friends. Sword Art Online is not all about fun and adventure since if they die in Aincrad, they die in real life.

Much like Sora and his Sister, Kazuto had a very huge passion for the Sword Art world. He would spend countless hours in front of the screen, glued to all the action taking place. Every new encounter became either a friend or an enemy, but eventually things started to feel all too real. Kazuto finds himself trapped in the world he obsesses over, but only this time there's no reset button to push when he's killed. Kirito must work together with a team of new allies in order to put a stop to the enemies impeding threats before the entire world he treasured the most, would end up in ruin along with his real life.

After dying in an embarrassing and pathetic death on his way back from buying a game, Kazuma Satou finds himself sitting before a beautiful but obnoxious goddess named Aqua. She provides the NEET with two options: continue on to heaven or reincarnate in every gamers dream, living in a real fantasy world. Choosing to start a new life, Kazuma is immediately tasked with defeating a Demon King who is terrorizing villages. But before he goes, Kazume can choose one item of any kind to aid him in his quest, and the future hero selects Aqua. But Kazuma has made a grave mistake unfortunately, as their troubles don't end here. Living in such a world as the one he's currently in, is far different from how it plays out in a game. Instead of going on a thrilling adventure, the duo must first work to pay for their living expenses, learn the ins and outs of real life, while battling cruel monsters at random.

We all would love the dream of taking part in a video game universe, traveling across the many terrain we encounter, while wielding incredible weapons. Kazuma dies tragically, only to find himself in the very game he just purchased. Similar to Sora, the two are given tasks and must fulfill them in a certain time frame to be rewarded. The two must equip items and rely on allies in order to get them through the uncertain path that lies ahead. Kazuma also soon realizes that his responsibility is unlike the typical video game lifestyle he envisioned, as he now must live out his life as a mature human being, paying for living expenses and learning how to survive by any means.

The final hour of the popular virtual reality game Yggdrasil has come. However, Momonga, a powerful wizard and master of the dark guild Ainz Ooal Gown, decides to spend his last few moments in the game as the servers begin to shut down. To his surprise, despite the clock having struck midnight, Momonga is still fully conscious as his character and, moreover, the non-player characters appear to have developed personalities of their own! Confronted with this abnormal situation, Momonga commands his loyal servants to help him investigate and take control of this new world, with the hopes of figuring out what has caused this development and if there may be others in the same predicament.

Those final moments before the servers go down for maintenance, we've all been there before. Those are the moments where your best efforts are invested, because you know servers will be down for several hours and so every ounce of energy must be used to gather all you need. Momonga fortunately finds himself stuck in the game well after the servers have been shut down, and now must use his wits in order to overcome a dilemma. Similar to Sora, Momonga needs to figure out why this is all happening, while still finding enjoyment in his surroundings whenever possible.

Keima has had this overflowing passion for the gaming world, and many knew him as the “God of Conquest” due to his ability to find his way into a woman's heart very quickly. Unfortunately he can only do so in dating sim games, and so his real world persona is stricken with misfortune as his obsession for the 2D girl has distorted his state of mind. Things take a twist however, when he is greeted by a demon named Elise who gives him a special mission. The catch is that he must interact with the one thing he despised the most, real life women. It is now Keima's responsibility to overcome the insecurities within and secure the hearts of real life girls, just as he did in the 2D realm.

Keima is just very passionate about his 2D relationships, and so he spends most of his day coming up with clever ways to land a date with them. Unfortunately he gets pulled into a real life game of dating by a demon, and must now overcome his insecurities by talking to real women. The game of real life is challenging as we all know, but for Keima this game is on the hardest difficulty and he just can't seem to press the reset button when he needs to. Throughout his many ordeals, he must come face to face with his inner struggles while trying to find a real date in order to complete the game.

Haruyuki is a young boy who, despite his portly figure, is exceptionally keen in the area of gaming. One day while at school, a popular vice president of the student council approaches Harayuki, informing him of a secret online fighting game called “brain burst”. The goal of the game is to duel against each other to gain burst points. What's cool is that the points you accumulate within the game, can be used in the real world to boost your attributes. Harayuki then focuses all of his energy to become the best in brain burst, and to disclose the truth behind the gaming project itself to the creator.

The world of video games is always packed with an insane amount of replay value, wild adventures, and fierce battles. Haruyuki had a passion for games but his real life just didn't seem to be very endearing. Haruyuki is then sucked into an online fighting game where he now has to use every strategy in the book to defeat his foe without dying. Sora and Haruyuki were both NEETs and really just wanted to live a life that revolved solely around gaming. The two got what they wished for, but not in the way which they anticipated. Each battle they faced would be a race to the death, and for Haruyuki, the points would transfer back into the real world to boost attributes. He had to be very careful with how he delegated his points, since fighting the final boss would be critical to his survival.
