While we are young, we don’t pay too much attention to our teachers, especially if they are boring or annoying. However, once we grow a little, we realize that it is not easy to try to convey knowledge to students. Young minds can be distracted by several problems and/or simply be disinterested. And that is only what happens inside the classroom, as there are many other challenges outside. So, can you imagine how challenging it might be to tutor princes who one day will have to take charge of the lives of many people?
If that does not increase your respect for Heine Wittgenstein, perhaps nothing will do. Although we will understand if you just want to hug our favorite teacher from Oushitsu Kyoushi Haine! However, this great tutor is not the only memorable teacher we have in the anime world. Neither are the four princes of Glanzreich the most memorable students there are. Let’s remember a few anime like Oushitsu Kyoushi Haine in this article!
Similar Anime to Oushitsu Kyoushi Haine
1. Great Teacher Onizuka (GTO)
- Episodes: 43
- Aired: Jun 30, 1999 to Sep 17, 2000
Perhaps the one who started the trend of the cool, memorable professors was Eikichi Onizuka. A former bike gang leader, this guy decides to become the best teacher ever. Slightly perverted and way too irreverent, you won’t forget one of his classes. Especially because deep inside, Onizuka is genuinely interested in his students, although it might look like he just wants to give you a tough time at first sight. However, Onizuka knows what you might be putting up with, because well, he may have gone through it before, too.
We can find several points in common between Great Teacher Onizuka and Oushitsu Kyoushi Haine. In the first place, we have clear opposition between the experienced adult (the teacher) and the rebellious gang (the pupils) in both stories. Heine and Onizuka try their best particular methods to win over their students. Also, there is plenty of comedy and funny moments in these animes. The main difference is the setting and the personality of the protagonists. If you are into older anime, Onizuka might be a good choice for you!
2. Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei
- Episodes: 12
- Aired: Jul 8, 2007 to Sep 23, 2007
Welcome (back) to High School! Maybe some of you think that going to an all same sex school might be boring. Well, most of the boring factors will depend on which teacher is with you. In the case of Nozomu Itoshiki, this eccentric teacher is so pessimistic that sometimes he just wants to die. His female students also have daily life problems that are common in contemporary Japan, but all together, they try to enjoy their time at school with some humor.
We once again have an unusual teacher leading the class. The students are all of the same sex, as in Oushitsu Kyoushi Haine. The big topic is the interaction between the adult and his protegees. The main difference, once more, is the personality of the teacher and the setting, which in the case of Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, goes more in the lines of Japan, while in the case of Oushitsu Kyoushi Haine, it leans toward the west.
3. Ansatsu Kyoushitsu (Assassination Classroom)
- Episodes: 22
- Aired: Jan 10, 2015 to Jun 20, 2015
This is an alternative version of our world where the moon has been partially destroyed. We are told that the culprit is a weird looking yellow creature , who will destroy the world if he is not killed. On top of that, the creature requests a post as teacher in the Kunugigaoka Junior High School. So, good luck, dear student! If you kill the creature and save the world, you will be rewarded with billions of yens! You will have to team with your classmates too. And don’t forget to study, you have to keep excellent notes!
This anime was one of the great successes of the recent years, to the point that it has two seasons, several specials and a movie. Oushitsu Kyoushi Haine and Ansatsu Kyoushitsu both have teachers who don’t look like one at first sight, and thus, are underestimated. However, Haine and Koro-sensei turn out to be great! They don’t only worry about their students scores. Amid the comedy, these teachers are worried about the persons that are under they charge. So, important life lessons await in both animes. The main difference is the dark tone of Ansatsu Kyoushitsu, that nonetheless, has a good balance with emotional moments and surprises in every episode. You will have to watch it to believe it.

4. Joukamachi no Dandelion
- Episodes: 12
- Aired: Jul 3, 2015 to Sep 18, 2015
So, we have an interesting imaginary Japanese kingdom in Joukamachi no Dandelion. In this anime, there is a king with nine children who are all in line for the throne! Although of course, the kids will have to prove themselves worthy. All of them have special abilities, but the show centers on the third princess, Akane Sakurada. Because she is shy and the kingdom has cameras all over the city to watch over the king’s offspring, the only reason Akane wants the throne is to turn the cameras off XD
If what you like about Oushitsu Kyoushi Haine is the different princes and their relationship, wait until you watch Joukamachi no Dandelion. We get nine kids to chose from! Most of them are upbeat and make for an interesting and funny show, just like Oushitsu Kyoushi Haine. Some of them are fierce competitors for the throne, while others just support their siblings endeavors. Extra points for the tribute/parody of a certain famous Moonie heroine that appears in the show 😉
5. Denpa Kyoushi
- Episodes: 24
- Aired: Apr 4, 2015 to Sep 26, 2015
We all know genius can have some quirks. However, when quirks go too far, it sometimes takes the intervention of one of our loved ones to throw us out of from our comfort zone. This is what Suzune Kagami, the sister of the physicist Junichirou Kagami, does in Denpa Kyoushi. After Suzune submits her brother’s application to get the post of High school teacher, the unsuspecting Junichirou will now have to deal with the education of lots of teenagers.
Both Haine and Junichirou are people who don’t look capable at their jobs as teachers, but just give them some time. They win their students respect with hard work! There is also comedy and heart warming moments in both animes. The difference is that Junichirou is a full grown adult in Japan, while Haine is a short adult in a classical world. Plus, Junichirou is a quirky otaku (Yeah!). That can only win him extra points for giving us a role model, right?
6. Sakamoto desu ga? (Haven't You Heard? I'm Sakamoto)
- Episodes: 12
- Aired: Apr 8, 2016 to Jul 1, 2016
What would happen if Haine was not a teacher but a student? What would happen if he was tall, dark haired, more intelligent and talented? Ok, forget about Haine. Let’s talk about Sakamoto, the ladies man from last year. Sakamoto is so perfect that he has all the girls in his school infatuated and all the boys against him. Even some teachers are challenging him!
Fortunately, or unfortunately (depending on your point of view), Sakamoto has to take matters in his own hands and graciously avoid the traps and obstacles that people from school prepare for him, just like Haine. Both protagonists also have a sides of themselves that not everyone knows. And oh, the comedy and elegance! The main difference is that, once more, we have a story set in contemporary Japan in Sakamoto Desu ga? Besides that, Sakamoto is a student… the perfect student. So, if you want an anime with comedy and a handsome guy who is more than meets the eye, don’t forget to check out Sakamoto Desu ga?

It does not matter if you like the school life or not, Oushitsu Kyoushi Haine and other similar anime teach us that learning can be interesting and useful, although we don’t always understand fully why we have to study a particular subject.
