Sherlock Holmes—invented by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle—has to be one of the most famous fictional detectives in all of literature. Holmes has gone beyond the simple medium of text and you can find him in movies, stage plays, and even anime! Yet, one of Sherlock Holmes’ most infamous villains is very rarely discussed and that is why we were surprised by Production I.G’s latest anime series.
Titled Yuukoku no Moriarty—Moriarty the Patriot—this anime series acts as a prequel to Sherlock Holmes and focuses on the most infamous antagonists in the series, William Moriarty. Despite this series focusing on a character we know will eventually go from simple Mathematician to criminal mastermind, we are in love with this mystery series and here is why you need to don the detective hats yourselves and enter into Moriarty the Patriot!
The Origins of Villainy
Sherlock Holmes is a character that needs little introduction but his infamous counterpart certainly can use some screen time. William James Moriarty’s past is revealed in Moriarty the Patriot and it allows us anime viewers to see an original work that dives into this character's origins! We here at Honey’s Anime love seeing Moriarty as he shows his intelligence—which rivals Holmes in many ways—and watching him deduce various crimes using math and science.
We can’t wait to see if Moriarty and Holmes will have a giant rivalry later in the series but when it occurs it will be the true beginning to a bitter rivalry that will go down in history!
Gorgeous Animation from Production I.G
Production I.G has made some incredible anime series—such as Psycho-Pass and Haikyu!!—which show their talents are well received in the world of anime. Moriarty the Patriot is yet another amazing work that despite being only about detectives and mystery-solving incidents, looks absolutely stunning. The environments are breathtaking and the way we watch Moriarty deduce crimes from his perspective is surreal! Even if you aren’t a huge mystery fan, there’s a lot to love about Moriarty the Patriot thanks to Production I.G’s usual level of polish only found in their works.
Plenty of Husbando Choices
If you’re trying to make a list of 2020 possible husbando choices then you can’t miss out on Moriarty the Patriot. Moriarty, Sherlock, Watson, and numerous others are just a few pretty boys you’ll see in this anime series. Thus, if you want some new male anime characters to fall for, you’ll want to join Moriarty and his fellow crime sleuths.
Interesting Crimes
If you aren’t only interested in animation and pretty boys and want an anime with deep crime plots and stories, then Moriarty the Patriot is perfect for you. As of writing this article, there have been two crimes but they have both kept us on the edge of our seats as we work alongside Moriarty and his allies. Will these crimes get even darker than they already have been or will they get even more intense…or a mixture of both? We can’t wait to find out and see what criminals will push Moriarty to his limits!
