Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skills First Impression - Amazon Online But in Another World?!

Another anime season, another slew of isekai…have we said this before? Honestly, here at Honey’s Anime, we have grown used to the absolute abundance of isekai that are released every season. Whether it is about some salaryman resurrecting in another world with OP powers or a human turned into a creature…with OP powers, isekai anime just never seem to stop releasing. That’s why when we heard studio MAPPA (Chainsaw Man and Jujutsu Kaisen) was making another isekai anime we kind of rolled our eyes a bit.

Yes, MAPPA makes some of the best anime, but what other isekai would release that would be as impressive as series like The Rising of the Shield Hero, RE:ZERO, and That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime? Enter, Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skills…a series that after several episodes aren’t as great as the isekai we mentioned but honestly…it’s pretty fun, nonetheless. Several episodes have been released of Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skills but we’ve noticed a lack of discussions about it thus we knew what we had to do! Here is our first impression of Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skills!

What’s Your Power…Online Shopping?!

The premise for Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skills is as goofy as the title. Enter summoned salaryman Tsuyoshi Mukouda who unlike the other “heroes” summoned was quickly analyzed as kind of worthless. Despite being in a magical new land full of monsters and magic, Mukouda quickly notices that he lacks OP fighting abilities and instead is armed with an appraisal skill and one other rather odd power, online shopping. That’s right folks, our main man is the next Kirito but has the ability to literally open up an Amazon-like shopping system, buy stuff from his own world—at least we think that’s where it comes from—and get it immediately delivered to wherever he’s at for pretty low prices…literally Amazon. That is the main concept that grabbed our attention here at Honey’s Anime, the silly premise that is kind of nice to see. Yes, our hero lacks fighting abilities—though he does get some cool familiars—but online shopping in another world seems kind of a good power to have!

He’s Not OP but his Familiars Are!

In a world full of monsters and other dangerous things, our poor hero wouldn’t survive without some allies and Mukouda makes those in the form of Fenrir—who he names Fel—and a slime he names Sui. While Sui’s power has only been shown in the opening song—which is excellent if we may add—Fel’s power is beyond OP as he is a powerful wolf enchanted by a Goddesses’ blessing and has been around for quite some time. Fel really makes Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skills a fun show as his relationship with Mukouda is hilarious. We do hope our adorable slime Sui gets some more chances to shine soon though!

No Threat to See Here

Yes, there are deadly monsters roaming the lands and as we quickly learn, Mukouda has appeared during a time when one kingdom is vying for power thanks to a new king in charge. Yet, Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skills is far from a serious series. In 5 episodes, even when our main man tried to “practice” magic on a mob of enemies, he was protected and the whole ordeal was just laugh-inducing. There aren’t any deadly games, extreme levels of violence, or political power struggles in Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skills, right now it’s just a show that is about cooking, the intrigue of being in a fantasy world, and what one would do in such a new environment…and we love this calm approach.

Food Goodness but No Exploding Clothes

Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skills has a penance for being almost like another anime called Food Wars. Despite Mukouda not being a chef, he does admit early on that he likes to cook and now has more opportunities to do so…especially to keep Fel fed. Some of the creations—while fantastical—look incredible in this anime. We loved how it is almost a hybrid of real-world cooking with JRPG themes such as when Mukouda cooks using a type of monster meat. So there aren’t any ecchi scenes involving women losing their clothes after experiencing some masterfully made meals but we won’t deny our mouths are kind of like Fel…salivating at some of Mukouda’s creations!

Final Thoughts

Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skills isn’t going to be the next big anime or isekai series…that much is obvious from the lack of attention it’s been getting and from the way the series is. Strangely though, we think MAPPA did a fantastic job animating a simple isekai that is just fun to watch and kind of makes us want to camp. Not every isekai needs to be so unrealistic and outlandish—despite the whole online shopping element being quite absurd—and that is the draw of Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skills. We recommend giving it a try as you can watch the series on Crunchyroll and binge the first five episodes out now as we did!
