Cosplay of New York Comic Con 2019

Cosplay has been around for what seems like ages now and we aren’t just talking about modern day cosplay, mind you. For generations, people have dressed up as their favorite fictional—and sometimes non-fictional—heroes/villains as a means of showing their love for those specific individuals. Now as time marches forward, cosplay has become even bigger with companies even hiring cosplayers to represent their brand or franchise for the world to see? While not everyone gets paid to cosplay, many still do it not for the love of income but for the love of a craft that continues to evolve. We went through NYCC19 for several days and found hundreds of cosplayers from all types of series—both anime and not—and decided to highlight some of our personal favorites! Even when a person cosplayed with the bare minimal—or went semi-risqué—these cosplayers wanted to show their love for their favorite shows and we felt that from how they held themselves during the convention. Welcome to Cosplay of New York City Comic Con 2019!

There are some cosplayers who truly put their souls into their outfits. These cosplayers amazed us by showing off some truly awesome renditions of various series. We were floored to see Guyver Unit 1 cosplay from the older series Kyoushoku Soukou Guyver and a Cylon from the American series Battlestar Galactica! There was even a Trunks cosplayer from Dragon Ball Super series! DC lovers probably will recognize several of these cosplayers such as Red Hood, Green Arrow and CW’s Arrow! Disney fans would have went wild to see a Moana cosplayer even showing her stuff! Needless to say, these cosplayers of NYCC19 truly went all in with their costumes, but we chose them for being those who didn’t constantly try to stand out, instead they just wanted to show off their outfits to fans!

Girl Power!

Women cosplayerS aren’t too uncommon especially at a convention as big as NYCC19! These women went all some truly awesome cosplay. We took photos of a well-known duo from Mirai Nikki and Pokémon’s favorite police woman Officer Jenny! Pikachu even got into NYCC19 but in a more human appearance that probably stunned many patrons without the use of electricity. Needless to say, NYCC19 had thousands of beautiful women cosplaying and our film would have run out if we snapped them all!

Duo-Cosplay!?

When friends or family got to NYCC19 they tend to travel around the convention halls in search of panels to view together or sights to take in. Cosplaying duos though travel the halls of NYCC19 to show off their cosplaying skills! There were a lot of duo cosplayers but we took pictures of two we ran into who seemed like truly awesome people. The first group we caught were cosplaying the male and female protagonists of Persona 3! We loved how they caught every detail of these two characters down to the evokers and even the sashes! Our other favorite duo—who show cosplaying can be done by all ages—is a female version of Tomura Shigaraki and her tiny partner Kai Chisaki from Boku no Hero Academia! Needless to say, we loved our duo cosplayers and hope at NYCC20 we see even more of them!

Final Thoughts

NYCC19 had so many amazing cosplayers we went dizzying trying to talk to them all and take photos of them. Many cosplayers don’t always want to be featured on popular websites or in the news but they cosplay to just show their love for the art. We respect those who want to keep it contained to a convention but we’re glad the ones who weren’t too camera shy let us capture their amazing cosplay! Hey everyone I’m Aaron Curbelo or Blade as I’m called by my YouTube Subscribers. I’ve been an anime/manga fan since I was a young kid. In terms of anime I have watched nearly a thousand shows and have read hundreds of manga series. I love writing and honestly was so happy to join Honey’s Anime to get a shot to write articles for such a wonderful site. I’m a firm believer in respect in the anime community being the most important embodiment we should all have. We all love anime and we have varying opinions of series but we should respect one another for those differences! Life is too precious to spend it making needless arguments in a community that should be the shining example of loving an amazing medium. I hope as a writer for Honey’s Anime I can bring you folks some amazing articles to read and enjoy!
