FINALLY! We have the Tiger & Bunny sequel! It's been years and it is about time. I have been WAITING. We all know how I do not like to be kept waiting.

Kinda. This is a spiritual successor. It's not a direct sequel however the studio has said that it is directly related to Tiger & Bunny. I wonder just what we can expect out of it.

This looks just like Bungou Stray Dogs. I am in heaven. There are so many pairings and so little time. I think I am an cannon kinda insect this time and ship Doug x Kirill.

I am with you Bombon! I love how everyone pairs up and fights. It reminds me of how Psycho-Pass was from just the PVs. This is for sure going to be at least a blip on everyone's radars and a massive one for fujoshi/fudanshi.

Synopsis

A pair of suns rise over the city-state Risvaletta. There, in the shadows of its citizens running calm lives, crime and drug use have become rampant. Among these drugs, the most lethal and dangerous is called ‘Anthem’, and it casts a dark shadow over the city.

An investigation agency overseeing and specializing in ‘Anthem’, SEVEN-O Special Criminal Investigation Agency, forms ‘buddies’ using a pair of investigators that work and move together as partners. They make up the ‘double decker system’ and spread out in response to ‘Anthem’.

One such buddy pair is experienced investigator Doug and his inexperienced, brand-new partner Kirill. They are a tragically vague veteran and a newbie who’s full of determination but has nothing else to offer. The story of two unconventional detectives begins now.

Three Episode Impression

I must admit, I wasn’t sure what I was getting myself into when I watched Double Decker! Doug and Kirill. I haven’t seen Tiger and Bunny, but I’ve only heard good things, so I had relatively high expectations, which I must say, I am not disappointed. Double Decker! Doug and Kirill is an action comedy anime centering around detectives Dough and Kirill. The main character is really Kirill who is over the top and dramatic as he works towards his single minded route of becoming a hero. His personality greatly contrasts Doug, who seems a bit absent minded at times and is the straight man, though it’s clear that he’s the one with the working brains while Kirill tends to jump the gun. Kirill is overzealous, to say the least, but it works well with Doug’s straight man creating a great dynamic that is fun to watch. I found myself chuckling to myself at times, which does not happen often when I’m watching an anime by myself. There’s CG added to Double Decker! Doug and Kirill, but it doesn’t take over the animation. I quite like the comic-esque animation coupled with the few moments of CG, which remind me of Handshakers but done well. Overall, I’d recommend Double Decker! Doug and Kirill so far!
