Drugstore in Another World: The Slow Life of a Cheat Pharmacist – Just Another Run-Of-the-Mill Isekai Series?

The isekai genre obviously has its irresistible charm, otherwise, we wouldn't have a slew of isekai series debuting every season. One of this season’s multiple isekai series is Drugstore in Another World: The Slow Life of a Cheat Pharmacist. The plot basically follows Reiji Kirio, a typical corporate grunt who just found himself in a forest in another world one day. Equipped with only two skills and his Earthly knowledge, he creates various new potions and items that have the same effects as common items on Earth and sells them in this fantasy world.

A few episodes in, here are what we think about Drugstore in Another World: The Slow Life of a Cheat Pharmacist.

Where’s the Backstory?

The story immediately jumps into introducing Reiji and his little pharmacy. The series doesn’t expand much on his life prior to being transported into this world. If he hadn't mentioned it in passing and the giveaway title, we wouldn't have been able to immediately tell that he isn’t a local of this world. Three episodes in, we still have minimal idea of his previous life. The fact that he’s from another world is only being used as a device for him to introduce Earth products to this new world. Other than that, his previous world knowledge serves no purpose. The series also doesn’t seem to be exploring his previous life, too. Not at the time being at least.

A Bit Lacking…

While the series has decent OST, art, and some cute character designs, other aspects come lacking. Given that it’s a chill, slice of life series, we don’t expect it to be plot-heavy, so the lack of linear plot isn’t really that bothersome. The dialogues, presented situations, and even the animation, however, come lacking at times. Even our favorite part, the short sequence when Reiji creates a new concoction, misses the bar by a little margin. It needs more flair and catchiness to completely bewitch us.

Delivers What It Promises

What the series does great is delivering what it promises. From the title alone, the Drugstore in Another World: The Slow Life of a Cheat Pharmacist already preps us for what it offers on the table. Indeed, it’s a slow and relaxing series that’s good for some mindless watching. We get to see him solve common problems using common products created from local ingredients. The fact that the series also has a cute and fluffy little werewolf and a kind, domesticated ghost certainly helps wash a busy day’s stresses away.

Final Thoughts

Drugstore in Another World: The Slow Life of a Cheat Pharmacist is certainly not a series for everyone. To those who enjoy mindless, slow series, this can be a pretty enjoyable series. That being said, you may want to stop at this point if you didn’t like the first three episodes. We don’t see the story drastically changing in the near future. That, of course, is only our opinion. In fact, most of my values are probably molded by manga. No, that's not an exaggeration.
