What You Need to Know:
- EVO Sai 2017 took place this weekend at Akiba Square in Akihabara, and is the pre-event before the main event that takes place in Las Vegas in July. The event was stacked full of monsters in every pool so there was never a guarantee of making it out alive. Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2 was the main event game and high level play was to be expected, as the gods of Guilty Gear in Japan made their presence known early in the brackets.
- Faust player Nage started off strong in his pools knocking out any player who stood in his way, but his luck ran dry when he ran into Summit who played out of his mind for the remainder of the tournament. Nage was certainly one of the favorites to win the entire tournament because he's known for his unorthodox playing style, and is able to see the tendencies of his opponent so quickly. Fan favorite FAB also played his heart out with his incredible Potemkin play, but unfortunately ran into Raven and Chipp who made it hard for him to get through. Ogawa made his mark at the tournament as well knocking out a lot of heavy hitters and making his way up to top 8.
- However it was the Chipp God Summit who really showed his skill, as he fought his way through the losers brackets to make it all the way to top 8. After that it was like he transformed because his impeccable gameplay destroyed his opponents, never dropping a single combo when it mattered. He perfected Ogawa's Zato-1 two times and made his mark on Zadei, the Raven player who also performed exceptionally well. Both Zadei and Summit fought to the bitter end with both combatants going back and forth in what was arguably one of the best matchups of the tournament. The only man standing at the end of grand finals however was Summit, and Daisuke Ishiwatari made his way to the stage to congratulate him on his awesome performance. Congrats to all players who attended and we'll see you at the next one!
