Oh totally! We have another classic being rebooted. This time, it's by Netflix. Grappler Baki is an older anime that hasn't been on TV for almost 17 years. The art is a bit meh, but let's see what the studio TMS Entertainment does. Then again, they did it right with Megalo Box.

What's next to be redone? Angelic Layer? Netflix has its hands in all the cookie jars. Though for some reason... the PVs remind me of ALL OUT!! and I am okay with that.

I was going to say that! You know that if you are a martial arts fan, you are going to be all over this series. Plus! It's two cours which means we have six months to watch.

Synopsis

Baki Hanma is one day summoned by Mitsunari Tokugawa. You see, Baki has taken time off from something. That something is an underground martial arts tournament where many, many individuals have engaged in a life or death struggle over and over again. It just so happens that Mitsunari is the head organizer of it. When Baki arrives, Mitsunari lets him know that five of the most brutal death row inmates have all escaped from prisons all over the world leaving behind the same phrase ‘I want to know defeat’. Mitsunari then tells him that they have all conspired to head towards Tokyo where the two of them are...

Three Episode Impression

Alright, so if you haven’t started this netflix exclusive yet, then let’s break a few things down and talk about it all. Baki Hanma/Hammer is some sort of superhuman fighter who makes his enemies tremble in fear when they threaten him. He manages to beat them all whenever they actually do raise a hand to him. At the same time, his principal wants him to fight others mysteriously drawn to tokyo from all over the world. Thus, suddenly hardened criminals meet him in a lawless underground ring to fight.

The manga is known for having unique art, and man, Netflix did that. We don’t understand why Netflix is lowballing art quality expecting people to watch just because it’s Netflix. This art is worse than A.I.C.O. or Sword Gai, so you’re in for a treat if you want to watch. The first episode is boring as you watch criminals escape. There is ZERO explanation as to why they all go to Tokyo to fight, but somehow, everyone knows Baki–most likely due to his father. As for who this anime caters to, well if you watched the first season from like 20 years ago, you’ll love a sequel. Otherwise, if you love hyper-violent fighting anime or anime akin to say, Ashita no Joe, then this is a good watch. If you want semblance of a story at all or art that is remotely enjoyable, then skip.
