Introduction
It’s time for a new season and while we cannot believe that summer is already over, we are kinda glad that fall is here and ready to start. You know what that means, it’s time to look at the fall anime that we are the most hyped for. There will be a part two so stay tuned because it is really hard aka impossible to list just 10 shows that we are excited about when we watch more than half of the season to find the real gems. Summer was a mixed bag of sorts and you are not sure what you were going to get. Fall, however looks to be a stable set of good, interesting shows. Our only lament is that ecchi/harem anime are severely lacking! That being said, here are the top 10 anime for Fall 2017 you can find us settling down around our kotatsu for.
1. Himouto! Umaru-chan 2nd Season
Doma Umaru is perfect in every way from her figure to her academics to her athletic ability. Everyone wants to be like Doma Umaru. However, what they don’t know is that when she goes home, Umaru changes into a cola loving otaku who can’t be bothered to do anything because she’s lazy. To her older brother Taihei, Umaru is a “himouto”?!
Himouto! Umaru-chan 2nd Season has to be one of my most anticipated Fall 2017 Anime. I mean, who didn’t just fall in love with Umaru and her antics? I absolutely loved the way Umaru trolled Taihei and got him to do what she wants, and how Taihei dotes on Umaru despite wanting to change her into a lady. This is one of those little sister anime that isn’t cringey or incestuous. Himouto! Umaru-chan is just a great slice of life comedy that’s fun to watch when you get a spare moment. I put it on par with great anime like Lucky Star and Nichijou!

2. Ousama Game
Kanazawa Nobuaki has just transferred to a new school thanks to a terrible experience from his last high school. Now, Nobuaki is hesitant to befriend any of his new classmates until the class relay race on Sports Day when he starts to open up to them. Yet, all of that is going to change when they receive an e-mail on their cellphones from someone dubbed “King”. Nobuaki is the only one who takes the e-mail seriously and it’s about to get dangerous as they engage in a game where the King’s orders are absolute.
If you have ever seen anything along the involving a King Game scenario, you know they are intense and full of anticipation. Those are the types of series that really grip you, so of course, I am more than excited for Ousama Game coming out this fall! Oh, the suspense is killing me and I’m sure it’s going to be even more gripping than Kakegurui is. I’ve read a few “King Game” manga, but Ousama Game is the first anime I’ve seen and man, does it look good! Of course, I like a good death game so I’m looking forward to seeing who turns on who and if our Nobuaki gets out unscathed.

3. Osomatsu-san 2nd Season
The Osomatsu sextuplets are back and wilder than ever! See what is going on in their lives. Are they more mature? Have you found jobs? Or are they the goofy NEETs that we all know and love? These questions can easily be answered in the second season of Osomatsu-san!
Now, I have to say I’m pretty excited for the new season of Osomatsu-san. I really enjoyed their stupid slapstick humor in the first season.I know that most episodes surprised me by their complete randomness so I’m almost guaranteed a laugh after a long day when I watch Osomatsu-san. I also know how popular Osomatsu-san is with the ladies so I’m sure girls are feverishly lining up from all over to watch Osomatsu-san! My favorite has to be Karamatsu. I wonder what type of silly things he will get into. You just have to love him for all of his antics!

4. Shokugeki no Soma: San no Sara (3rd Season)
The 3rd season of Shokugeki no Soma comes back to us after Soma has lost to Hayama in the fall tournament, but Soma is determined to keep getting better! Now, we will get to see Soma and seven other contestants fight it off in the final round, but who has the skills to win?
I have a love hate relationship with Shokugeki no Soma. I love it for being thrilling and funny. It’s one of the few ecchi anime that mostly has naked guys because it just makes fun of ecchi humor. I hate Shokugeki no Soma because the food looks so dang delicious and I have zero skill in the kitchen so if I want to eat the delicious food from Shokugeki no Soma, I’ll either have to go out or eat cup ramen while willing it to be as delicious as the food on this anime. Even then, I have fallen behind on the manga (or just haven’t bothered to read more), so I look forward to the next season. I want to see all of the good food and the excitement that is a shokugeki! I really want to see Megumi show her true potential, too. Soma is fun and you root for him, but Megumi is the underdog with no self esteem that you know can do so much more than she lets on. C’mon Megumi!

5. Code: Realize ~Sousei no Himegimi~
Cardia has spent her life in isolation due to a fear by the locals caused by the poison contained in her body. With a single touch, Cardia can melt everything. However, one night, all of that changes when a thief named Arsene Lupin saves Cardia from the English military. From here on, Cardia’s world is about to open up and she’s going to experience all new adventures and relationships than ever before. Also, Cardia will have to dive into the mystery that is her past and her own body if she will ever get a chance at living a normal life with a normal love.
OK, I’ll be honest; I have mixed feelings about Code: Realize as an anime. I played the otome game that came out in 2015 and after playing Amnesia: Memories and Norn9 right before it, I thought Code: Realize just didn’t have the same excitement as the others. However, I want to give Code: Realize ~Sousei no Himegoto~ a chance since it’s not another blatant bishounen anime with no plot or personality. No, this is a reverse harem I can give my support to. Of course, I am rooting for Arsene to be the love interest in this one! Go Arsene! I wonder if the same seiyuu will be playing the characters that we all know and love. Hmmm…. Well, I could just look it up or I could just watch and find out!

6. 12-taisen
12-taisen is the latest creation from the Monogatari series creator NisioisiN. It tells the story of 12 warriors who are all summoned to a room. They each have a wish and represent a character of the Chinese zodiac. If they can manage to slaughter their opponents with their unique weapon, then they can have their one wish granted. For the twelfth time, every twele years, twelve warriors from different walks of life are summoned to kill each other on a battlefield where the truth is dipped in lies and strategy is what you need. Who will come out victorious.
Truth be told, I was hyped for this when it was announced. However, it was supposed to come out in summer, but since NisioisiN decided to change his mind and give Owarimonogatari a closing season thus ending the monogatari series as a whole, this was pushed to fall. My interest in this series has piqued even further because that means he wanted to cleanly end Owarimonogatari so that he could focus on this series. With a star-studded seiyuu lineup as well as characters that seem interesting, this battle royale is for those of us who like a bit of thrill to our anime. The series has been teased as a Fate meets Monogatari series. And yes, I did say series which means that, according to the creator, will go beyond 1 season. So, don’t expect too much conclusion to happen too fast. Some characters will die for sure, but I do not foresee them all dying in one season. I really like Inounoushihi, the older Tatsumi Brother with the liquid hydrogen thrower, and Usagi. Here is to hoping one of them wins!

7. Hoozuki no Reitetsu 2nd Season (Hoozuki’s Coolheadedness)
Hell is run well. In fact, it runs like a bureaucracy, and at the top sits the great King Enma. However, the one who really makes sure that everything is running smoothly is his right-hand man, Hoozuki. Cool, calm, collected, and terrifying, this demon does everything from balancing budgets, assisting his boss with the judgement of the dead, going through endless amounts of paperwork, and finally, coercing King Enma with violence to do his job. Each day of hell is boisterous and busy with many people that need to be jduged and many tasks that need to be sorted. Through it all somehow, Hoozuki still has time for his favorite thing, catering to his goldfish plant garden. Everyday life in the bureaucracy of Japanese Hell begins with him!
Admittedly I knew nothing of this show until about 2 months ago when I started watching it in preparation for the second season for work. You can read about the episode reviews I did for the show here!(Link) This show is flat out hilarious. Comedy anime is all fun and good, but nothing gets a good laugh going for me like this show does. There is not a single character to dislike as everyone is funny in their own way. While it seems like there might be too many characters, that is simply not the case as they all fit together like a puzzle. The best characters, or rather best conflicts, have to be Hoozuki vs Hakutaku, Hoozuki vs Beelzebub, and the rabbit who hates tanuki vs everything in her path. This anime is funny, heartwarming, and actually a rather interesting take on hell from a Japanese perspective. Just remember wise words: Everyone has a little darkness in their hearts.

8. Kujira no Kora wa Sajou ni Utau (Children of the Whales)
The planet that humanity lives on is a planet of Sand. They travel on the back of boats the sizes of small islands. The one our characters live on is the Mud Whale. The people on this island have never come into contact with other humans ever and they are divided into two people: The shirushi and the muin. The shirushi are people who can use powers called Saimia in exchange for their life force, and the muin are people who do not have any powers but live for longer periods of time. One day, a shirushi, Chakuro, comes across an abandoned ship that has a girl named Rikosu. Everything that he and the people aboard the Mud Whale have known are going to be shattered.
Whenever a PV goes black and says “You all really don’t know anything do you?” you know that a series is going to be good. I was slightly nervous since that is what Koi to Uso did and we saw how that one went from rising star to crap tier anime real fast, but as more PVs come out, this screams Shinsekai Yori. True, it will not be as dark or violent, at least I don’t think it will be, but the story told should be a good and interesting one of people trying to figure out what life is like outside their small world while experiencing betrayal and murder. Either way, you definitely need to watch this show.

9. Inuyashiki
Ichirou Inuyashiki is getting up there in age. He works and has a family but he is alienated at home and his daughter finds him to be a nuisance. One day, everything takes a turn for the worse when he is diagnosed with cancer and falls into despair. When he thinks everything is over, he is kidnapped by aliens and his whole body is replaced with an android body with superhuman capabilities. When the same thing happens to bullied high school student Hiro Shishigami, he comes to a realization. Should he go with the flow of good for humanity, or commit crimes and atrocities in order to feel alive? This is the story of good and evil clashing against each other while both Inuyashiki and Hiro struggle against each other in their newfound resolve.
Watch the PV and then come back. Okay you watched it? Great. This is the NOITAMINA anime of the season so expect it to be a 10000000/10. Next, this is made by Hiroya Oku aka the creator of GANTZ. So expect blood, adrenaline, and horror as things progress in this series. Plus, it has supernatural androids fighting!! You know that this has promise when it sounds like Ajin but with more promise and hopefully a less emo/whiny main character.

10. Garo: VANISHING LINE
Coming from MAPPA, Garo: VANISHING LINE (originally called just VANISHING LINE), is set in Russel City, an advanced city. However, there is something lurking in the shadows that is set to destroy everything and the only man with a clue is Sword. He has one clue, and that is the phrase “El Dorado.” He happens to meet Sophie, a girl in search of her brother who also has heard of “El Dorado.” They were the last words left to her by her now missing brother. Sword has actually lost his sister in the past, so he feels a kindred spirit in her and takes her along to crack open this conspiracy.
When it was announced, I was super interested in the story it had to tell, and even though it has been revealed to be part of the Garo series, I do not feel as if it is going to bring anyone or anything down. There is a mystery/conspiracy to be brought to light and I love these kinds of stories. I just have to hope that is does not go left with unecessary explanations and weird art. That being said, the art looks good so far and I am happy to see how it ends up playing out.

Final Thoughts
These are the top 10 anime that we have our eyes on for fall. They are all over the place genre-wise, but they all look good. There are so many more that have not made it on this list directly, but hey, who knows. We may make a future part two to this list as both editors are watching more than what is listed here. These are our top ten split between two people with a bit of overlap, but what are yours? Let us know below!
