Characters & Voice Actors
Maine: Yuka Iguchi
Her appearance is that of a young girl, but she is a grown-up inside. She retains memories from before the reincarnation as Motosu Urano. She starts to make books based on her knowledge from before the reincarnation. Due to "Devouring", which occurs due to having magical powers since birth, she is vulnerable and has a fragile body. She finds the library in the temple which she has visited for baptism, and volunteers to be a blue maiden apprentice because she wants to read the books so much. But she struggles to adapt to the difference in the rules between the peasants and the nobles. She quietly follows the rules and Spartan education by the head of priests to read the books.
Ferdinand: Shou Hayami
The head of the priests. The guardian and educator for Maine. He is from the noble class, but is at the temple for a certain reason. He is the head of the priests and is in charge of business at the temple. To make up for a shortage of magical powers due to the decrease in the number of the nobles from the social change, he expects a lot for Maine's magical powers. His motto is "do not get into a fight that you cannot win", and therefore he does anything to eliminate who he believes to be unnecessary. Because he has been successful through blood, sweat, and tears, he looks like he is in 30s, although he is actually in 20s.
Lutz: Mutsumi Tamura
The childhood friend of Maine. He works at Benno's store, Gilbert Firm, as a merchant apprentice. He is bound by the magical contract which states, "Lutz will make whatever Maine comes up with". He is in charge of taking care of Maine's health, which often goes bad, and he takes Maine to and from the temple every day. He knows Maine's secret.
Benno: Takehito Koyasu
The master of Gilbert Firm, where purchase of clothing and accessories can be made. Single. He realizes the values of the products brought by Maine faster than anybody else, and has high expectations for Maine's ability. Other than paper production, he has bought the right to "Rinshan" from Maine. He cleans Maine's room and introduces the craftsmen to her. From the perspective of the people from the temple, he is like the guardian of the Peasants' area.
Turi: Megumi Nakajima
Maine’s older sister. She’s good at taking care of people and is well loved in the downtown area. She works as an apprentice seamstress. In addition to making books, she has also begun helping with Maine’s work at the temple. Influenced by Maine’s dedication, she wants to work at the workshop of Corinna, a much-admired seamstress. Maine refers to Turi as “her angel”.
Gunther: Tsuyoshi Koyama
Maine’s father. He’s a guard at the south gate. He’s a doting father and husband to the point that the people around him are sick of hearing about it. Since he dotes on Maine, he becomes fiercely jealous of anyone involved with her and tries to compete with them, much to Maine’s dismay. If Maine asks him to do something, he will happily oblige. His motto is “Protect the town and my family”. His love for his family is stronger than anyone else’s, and he wouldn’t hesitate to lay down his life for them.
Epha: Fumiko Orikasa
Maine’s mother. She works in a dye workshop. In this world, being able to sew is a prerequisite for an attractive woman. Epha is without a doubt a beauty in terms of both looks and sewing skills. She often worries about Maine, who is frequently bed-ridden with a fever, and is anxious about her future. So, while she doesn’t know much about bookmaking, she is eager to support Maine in any way possible. Maine’s passion for bookmaking reminds her of the way Gunther dotes on his daughters, so she assumes Maine inherited her quirker traits from her father.
Otto: Satoshi Hino
A guard at the south gate. Gunther’s subordinate. He is in charge of accounting. Before becoming a soldier, he was a traveling trader. However, he fell in love with Corinna and spent all of his money to obtain citizenship in Ehrenfest. He asked Gunther, who he had met while entering and leaving the town on his journeys, to take him on as a guard. He values Maine’s ability to read, write, and do sums and frequently asks her to help him with his accounting work. He is very fond of his wife and will brag about her to anyone who listens. Benno is his brother-in-law.
