Mairimashita Iruma-Kun! (Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun) Season 2 – Elephant in the Clubroom

Mairimashita Iruma-kun (Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun) has finally had its second season drop after the end of the first back in 2019! If you can still remember that far back, the series ended after the apprehension of the Magical Apparatus Battler’s president, Amy Kirio, who plotted to blow up Babylys alongside former student, Baal! The first season had several awesome moments, but there’s something that is still bothering us about how it ended, and how it’s carrying on into the second season… why aren’t they telling us about that super awkward personality switch in the final moments of season one? Why are they acting like that post-credits scene didn’t happen? Let’s go over the facts and throw out some wild speculations as we discuss the current trajectory of Mairimashita Iruma-kun! (Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun)

Delinquent Iruma

The big elephant in the room this season of Mairimashita Iruma-kun! (Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun) is obviously the foul-mouthed, scowling, disrespectful purple-haired teenager who woke up in Iruma’s bed at the end of season one. The first season ends with this purple-haired Iruma giving the camera an intense staredown after giving Sullivan a taste of the renowned delinquent greeting: “Huh? The hell did you just say to me, old man?!” Then it faded to black. Season 2 drops over a year later and by episode 2, there still isn’t any mention of the guy we’re calling “Delinquent Iruma” to make things easier for ourselves. Delinquent Iruma is the direct opposite of the kind and mild Iruma we’ve come to know over the course of the first season and the initial stages of the second season. What happened to Iruma after the fireworks?

Our Guess

We have no idea what caused Iruma’s brief personality change; however, we could piece it together quite easily. After being promoted, Iruma’s connection to the ring given to him by Sullivan seems to be growing even stronger. The first promotion granted the ring a kind of quiet consciousness, while being promoted to Gimel (3) Rank meant that the ring developed a “body”, the ability to speak and communicate with Iruma, among other things. When Ali was introduced, he was shown to be subservient to Iruma; however, it is possible that this was just a ruse. If we consider Ali’s dark purple colour scheme, the offset hair colour exhibited by Delinquent Iruma could be a result of Iruma further merging with the abilities granted to him by the demon Sullivan, and Ali, the physical manifestation of the Ring of Gluttony.

Final Thoughts

The second season of Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun finally making its way to our screens after the surprisingly enjoyable first season comes with a bit of pressure for the sequel. For one, we’re already scrutinizing it for not already diving into the meat of the story and revealing what could be really important plot points; however, it’s hard not to be very curious about where the show is going, especially with Delinquent Iruma featuring on official promotional art for the series!

We’re still in the beginning, and it’s going to take a bit of time for Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun to fully embody what it is meant to be this season. We just hope it builds on the last! What do you think is the deal with Iruma? Drop a comment below and tell us what you think!

I’m South African, harbouring an obsession for anything remotely related to Japan, mostly anime, of course. I draw sometimes. Some people call me Naledi, it’s my real name, or something like that. People think I’m stoic because I don’t smile often (I do sometimes). I like languages. Hoshi-kun and Naledi are the same side of the same coin.
