Persona 5 the Animation Preview (No Spoilers)
Ren Amamiya found his life changed when he was wrongfully convicted of a crime he didn’t commit. Forced to transfer schools in his second year, Ren ends up caught up in a whirlwind of incidents that lead to him awakening an inner power called Persona. Alongside several others like him Ren embarks on a mission to defeat those that wish to harm others with their corrupted hearts. Ren’s group title themselves the Phantom Thieves of Hearts and enter mysterious worlds within the corrupted individual to steal a treasure within that will in turn change their evil ways. However, do all of these individual cases lead to something more sinister? Find out in Persona 5 the animation!
Morgana Highlights (Spoilers Beyond This Point)
1. The first true Phantom thief of hearts
Morgana might be a cat…person…cat-person that seems more adorable than threatening, but don’t let those cute ears fool you. Morgana was actually the first of Ren’s team to awaken to his persona—Zorro—before anyone else! That’s why when Morgana makes jokes about Ren being a rookie, his statement isn’t too far fetched.
2. Doesn’t back down from a brawl
Despite being quite small and cuddly-looking, Morgana isn’t one to back off from any foe large or height sized. Morgana uses a saber and slingshot in battle and will always rise to the challenge. Though there are some instances where Morgana will show his cat-like fearful nature and try to avoid a hairy situation if he can do so…
3. Loves treasure like a real thief
For Ren and his fellow Phantom Thieves of Hearts, entering the domain within adults known as Palaces has one major goal: to steal the treasure and thus purify the adult from within. However, Morgana’s resolve in helping save Japan comes in the greedier form of just nabbing treasures because he’s drawn to them. While there is a spoiler to this reasoning—which we won’t say—this attitude makes Morgana more of a thief than Ren and the other phantoms. Yet isn’t a thief’s main reason for being to steal treasure and thus in an ironic sense, Morgana is the only true thief of the group?
4. A true ladies man…cat
While Ren might have the looks and quiet “mystery boy” vibes, Morgana is the true ladies man…cat of the group. Morgana was quick to give Ann her staple nickname of Lady Ann not because he’s just trying to be polite but because he’s constantly trying to show he digs her. While the game for Persona 5 and the anime might be different in many regards, we are happy to at least see Morgana still try to wow the ladies despite being a cat in the real world and a cat-person in Palaces.
5. Caring and helpful
Morgana might be a bit crass at times and also might be quick to lose his temper but he clearly cares for his fellow Phantom Thieves of Hearts. Mirroring the game, Morgana often lends advice to the team when dealing with new threats or when it comes to just giving a good pep talk/comedic moment to lighten the mood. Thankfully though we don’t have to hear Morgana constantly remind us to go to sleep like we do in the video game…that was more annoying than helpful.
