Discussion Time

The 23rd chapter of Samurai 8: Hachimaru Den had Hachimaru emerging as the victor against the unknown samurai who challenged him to a duel. Despite the clear difference of skill and power, our challenger took himself out of the tournament and accepted his loss from Hachimaru. As he parted from our heroes he did provide a few words of warning regarding the loss of a princess and what that does to a samurai. These words resonate with our cat samurai Daruma as we see he clearly was bound to a princess long ago but for unknown reasons--as of now--she is clearly out of the picture.

Hachimaru apologizes to Ann for his failure to protect her but she disregards his apology and we can clearly see that she sees Hachimaru as a mirror of her brother while she smiles at his resolve to keep her safe. The chapter continues on with our team fighting countless samurai and whittling the numbers down to just several left. Thus, only Hachimaru's party is left but seeing as how only one can move to fight the tournament holder the battle between former allies begins here! Who will emerge victorious? Will it be Hachimaru or will it be either Ryu or Kotsuga? Hachimaru seems to want a rematch first against Ryu so we can expect a big battle to commence in chapter 24 of Samurai 8: Hachimaru Den! Till this fated chapter releases let's talk about some of our favorite moments of chapter 23.

Why You Should Read Samurai 8: Hachimaru Den (Samurai 8: The Tale of Hachimaru) Chapter 23

1. Younger Daruma Spotted!

In probably the biggest surprise of chapter 23 of Samurai 8: Hachimaru Den we see a younger--and human--Daruma for the first time! From the brief panels we see him, we can tell Daruma was a bit cocky like Hachimaru but also tough with a strong resolve to show his worth to his princess. The loss of his princess, though, makes us wonder what happened and if that's why Daruma chose to be put into a cat form instead of his original human samurai body. We're sure later chapters will answer these questions, but for now, they provide a nice amount of theory crafting for us to chew on

2. Rematch Commence!

With all of the combatants out of the way, our final fighters are among our heroes. Yet, it seems like Ryu and Hachimaru are going to first duke it out in a rematch! Hachimaru has learned a lot quickly about how to rely not on just his creative combat style but on how to channel his inner samurai spirit. That should make for a more impactful rematch and one we are too excited to witness!

Final Thoughts

Samurai 8: Hachimaru Den chapter 23 has accelerated the tourney to the last competitors. Now with only our hero samurai left, the winner will be determined by who can show their true samurai spirit! We wonder now who will go on to fight the tournament creator and help our samurai win either a ton of money or a possible ally! Before chapter 24, comment below on who you think will win among our remaining samurai! For even more chapter reviews of Samurai 8: Hachimaru Den, keep stuck to our hive here at Honey's Anime!
