Senryuu Shoujo (Senryu Girl) Introduction and Story
Ever since she was little, Nanako Yukishiro has only communicated through senryuu. Now in high school, Nanako joins her school's Literature Club to share her love of senryuu. Joining the club along with her is former delinquent, Eiji Busujima, who despite his rough exterior, has developed a love for senryuu. Senryuu Shoujo follows the daily lives of the Literature Club as they go on some crazy adventures and meet all sorts of interesting people along the way.
1. The Characters
The best part of Senryuu Shoujo are its characters. All of the characters feel unique and bring so much charm to the series. The series does such a good job with its characters that even minor characters like Nananko's family and Eiji's sister are fantastic.
2. Nanako and Eiji’s Relationship
While there isn't any real story to Senryuu Shojo, the one thing that carries over from episode to episode is the relationship between Nanako and Eiji. Almost every episode revolves around some cute adventure that Nanako and Eiji go on, and even the ones that don't, still have plenty of cute moments between the two of them. Even though things never develop between the two of them, watching them interact every episode is incredibly heartwarming.
3. The Comedy
The Comedy in Senryuu Shoujo is fantastic. All of the characters have these quirky personalities that lead to a bunch of humorous moments and interactions. Each episode brings in a new and often ridiculous situations that the characters find themselves in and the anime does a great job at utilizing their personalities and these situations to create some amazing comedy.
1. Character Appearances
One of the more disappointing parts of Senryuu Shoujo is how little it uses some of its great characters. With the anime only being 12 minutes long, there just isn't enough time to get some of its characters more involved. Characters like Nanako, Eiji, and Amane get a majority of the screen time, while characters like Koto, Kino, and Tao only have a few appearances after their introductory episodes.
2. Nothing Really Happens
Senryuu Shojo focuses more on the comedy and cute romantic moments instead of giving us a story with any kind of substance. Although this isn't necessarily a bad thing, it can lead to the anime feeling a bit pointless. If you aren't interested in the comedy portion of the anime, there really isn't much else for you to enjoy here.
3. The Visuals
Outside of a few scenes, Senryuu Shoujo's visuals are fairly boring. A lot of what the anime gives us is plain looking and whenever a character isn't the focal point in the scene they look lifeless. It gets even worse during certain episodes, where the visuals are bad enough that they are distracting.
Final Thoughts
There are a lot of great things about this anime, but it also has its weak points. If you are a fan of light-hearted comedy filled shows, Senryuu Shoujo is a great anime for you. If you like a bit more story and drama in your slice of life anime, then there may not be a lot here for you to enjoy. What did you think of Senryuu Shoujo? Do you think it is worth watching?
