Spring Break is universally known for being the time of the year when college students—and some working adults—dive out of their classrooms and into their local pools or beaches but that is because there isn’t enough time for life and anime during the spring! Summer seasons are usually when school is closed or, at least, reduced time-wise and many parents have days off to hang with their kids or go on mini-vacations. That is why the summer season works best for anime, more time to just binge anime missed during the spring and equally watch newer series as they air in your nice AC-controlled rooms!

Realistically, there are times when great anime can air during the fall season or spring anime season but let’s look at the last few summer seasons of anime and you tell us if these weren’t the best of 2021 and 2020. In 2020 we had Re: ZERO Season 2, Great Pretender, and My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU Climax! In 2021, That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 2 Part 2, The Case Study of Vanitas, Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid Season 2, and Sonny Boy! These shows were all excellent anime works—which we fully recommend watching—and all aired during the summer! Summer 2022—which we don’t have the full conclusive list of airing series—already looks promising with anime like the long-awaited second season to The Devil is a Part-Timer, Overlord season 4, and Classroom of the Elite Season 2! Legendary series air during the summer and that has been proven every year of recent memory!

After our last comment, we know there are many anime viewers ready to comment “these shows weren’t great” and then point us to the worse anime that aired during the summer seasons, most likely Scarlet Nexus which wasn’t well recieved by us or many in the anime community. We won’t fib, yeah not every summer release is going to be anime of the year but really…every season has a few weaker anime that aren’t as loved. No season can have a 100% perfect list of anime works and if that season ever does happen…we will no doubt be watching anime for months trying to catch up!
