The Winter 2020 Romance Anime That Made Us Swoon

While there were many interesting and noteworthy anime that came out in the winter 2020 season, when it comes to romance, this season was sadly lacking. With anime such as Darwin’s Game and Somali to Mori no Kamisama, this season definitely had its shining stars but those on the backburner deserve attention as well. The romance anime that did come out, however, made quite the splash in the pool of anime that was winter 2020.

We found many reasons to enjoy the deluge of anime presented to us but the ones listed below are the romance anime that really stood out. These anime feature more than just romantic tension, they are also full of great character development, humor, mystery, and even suspense. Any viewer will find a reason to enjoy these entertaining and romantic anime, even if romance anime isn’t their favorite genre.

3. Plunderer

  • Episodes: 24
  • Aired: January 2020 – Currently Airing

Hina wanders around searching for a legendary Ace, warriors from 300 years ago that have amazing power, after her mother’s death. Soon, she encounters Licht Bach, a perverted but incredibly strong warrior who she is immediately drawn to. He soon breaks her heart as he continues on his journey but this is not the end of their relationship. The two seem drawn together by fate as they work to discover the truth of their world.

Plunderer really does have it all: humor, mystery, battles, ecchi, and romance. It is an anime that will appeal to all audiences while having them laugh almost continuously throughout the episodes. This anime is continuing through the spring 2020 season, providing you with new content after watching through the first 12 episodes. While Plunderer is not technically a romance anime, there are romantic elements between Licht Bach and Hina as well as other minor characters such as Mizuka Sonohara.

2. Kyokou Suiri (In/Spectre)

  • Episodes: 12
  • Aired: January 2020 – March 2020

Kotoko Iwanaga, the god of wisdom, has the responsibility to resolve problems between the human world and the spirit world. Even as a god, Kotoko has to navigate the issues of love when she meets Kurou Sakuragawa. He has the unique ability of immortality and seeing the future but he too, like Kotoko, is part human. The two must work together to solve the problems of the spirit world and maintain their relationship in the process.

In/Spectre has supernatural and mystery elements on top of the relationship aspect. Unlike in Science Fell in Love, So I Tried to Prove It—a romance-focused anime—Kotoko and Kurou’s relationship is not as in your face but is a strong component of the anime. Those who are looking for an anime that goes beyond the romantic element, In/Spectre is an anime recommended for you.

1. Rikei ga Koi ni Ochita no de Shoumei shitemita. (Science Fell in Love, So I Tried to Prove It)

  • Episodes: 12
  • Aired: January 2020 – March 2020

For her entire life, Ayame Himuro has been able to explain everything through science. Since entering college, she has grown closer to Shinya Yukimura and developed a feeling that she can’t explain, love. Her attraction towards Shinya is a complex problem that neither will accept until they can explain it through science. The two must come up with a solution to prove their love before they can finally be together.

Science Fell in Love, So I Tried to Prove It is an adorable anime that will give you the boost of happiness that you need. Watching Ayame and Shinya navigate their relationship with their lack of emotional intelligence is incredibly hilarious. Science Fell in Love, So I Tried to Prove It definitely stands its ground as one of the best romance anime of the season.
