Top 10 Anime Succubus [Updated]

What would you give for the devotion of a beautiful woman? Would you give words of poetry? Would you give riches? If you love a succubus, you just might give her your life. A succubus is a female demon that seduces men and draws out their life forces. The act is seldom malicious, it is simply a side effect of returning their affection. We meet many different interpretations of this spirit of western European folklore in anime. We see some traditional approaches where they fall right into the patterns of their lore and looser characterizations as they are localized for Japanese audiences. We find whatever the interpretation is they are often girls that can steal your heart. We now count down the Honey’s Anime Top 10 Anime Succubus list.

10.Shinjin Succubus from Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo! [Konosuba: God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World!]

  • Episodes: 10
  • Aired: January 2016- March 2016

Konosuba is the story of Kazuma, a high school boy who was reincarnated in a fantasy world. The problems he faces are many, like having no skills, being part of a party of adventurers who are idiots, and the worthless goddess who reincarnated him accompanying him in his new life.
We meet Shinjin when Kazuma gets wind of a special shop down one of the allies in town that caters to men’s fantasies. The shop is run by the succubus.

The high school boy does what seems quite natural for someone with questionable morals to begin with: He pays for a visit by a succubus. The visit that turns into calamity when his female roommate’s sense the presence of a demon in their home. A series of supernatural missteps occur when Shinjin shows up, which fits perfectly with this slapstick show full of sarcasm. We don’t get to know a lot about Shinjin other than she’s an adorable succubus and the youngest one at the shop. Like Kazuma, we really, really wish we’d gotten to know her much, much better.

9.Rias Gremory from Highschool DxD

  • Episodes: 12
  • Aired: January 2012 - March 2012

Issei is a bit of a pervert. He is excited about finally getting a girlfriend. And then he is violently murdered on their first date. He is resurrected as a devil by the Rias Gremory. He is now bound to the Gremory family and must help them make contracts with mortals to increase their power. Issei quickly finds out that the world is far more complex than he’d ever imagined. The world, and especially his school, is filled with angels, demons, and fallen angels. He will have to fight for his life on more than one occasion, never losing sight of his goal to have sex with Rias.

Rias Gremory is the busty and beautiful president of the Occult Research Club – and a devil. We don’t get an official description that she is a succubus, but a lot about her seems to fit the description. She is a devil and often uses her sexuality to get her way, at least where Issei Hyoudou is concerned. She also seems to be very good at manipulating people and literally using them as her pawns. She is a great character but she’s low on this list because we couldn’t confirm that she’s a descendant of a succubus. Rais can be fierce when it comes to protecting her family and can summon enormous power to do so.

8.Succubus from Druaga no Tou: The Aegis of Uruk [Tower of Druaga]

  • Episodes: 12
  • Aired: April 2008 - June 2008

Tower of Druaga: The Aegis of Uruk is about a tower that is filled with demons and the adventurers that are willing to take it on. The goal of the adventurers is to fight their way up the floors of the dungeon and cleanse the tower of its evil inhabitants. The role Succubus, the succubus, plays isn’t really a big one, but she plays a role in the heroes’ efforts to clear the tower. She pretends to be the goddess Ishtar and plays mind games with the team as they climb the tower. Like so many other characters, we don’t get to see her a lot, but her part of this ensemble cast is a good reason to give Druaga a chance.

7.Len from Carnival Phantasm

  • Episodes: 12
  • Aired: August 2011 - December 2011

Carnival Phantasm is one of the best parodies of serious anime ever created. The parody created by the game company Type-moon to celebrate the game company’s 10th anniversary pokes fun at some of its best titles like Tsukihime and Fate/Stay Night. You get a lot of mashups between the two series and wacky and chaotic slice-of-life adventures with the usually serious characters.

Len is a succubus familiar of the vampire Arcueid Brunestud. She was created by taking the soul of a human girl and putting it in the body of a cat. Len is capable of shapeshifting between the two forms, or things would really be weird for her as a succubus even for an anime. She also has the ability to manipulate dreams and can use that to shape the wants and desires of others. Len is a fun character and the overall anime is a must-view for any Fate/Stay or Tsukihime fan.

6.Ageha Kurono from Rosario + Vampire Capu2 [Rosario + Vampire 2nd Season]

  • Episodes: 13
  • Aired: October 2008 - December 2008

Rosario + Vampire is the story of Tsukune Aono, a human whose his fate is secretly manipulated so he’s sent to the youkai-only Youkai Academy. The rest of the story, at least in the anime, is a combination of romance, battle, and slapstick comedy involving Tsukune, his harem of girls and their Academy life.

Ageha Kurono is a succubus and the mother of one of the heroines of the story, Kurumu, is also a succubus. She is a very beautiful woman, as is fitting. Ageha has a bit more of the succubus mindset than her daughter, never feeling conflicted about using her powers to use men. Ageha seems to respect the challenge her rebellious daughter is taking on in trying to seduce Tsukune without the use of magic. We get a chance to see the fun side of her, too, in her rivalry with one of the other parents whose magic is geared toward seducing men as well.

5.Artemis from Junketsu no Maria (Maria the Virgin Witch)

  • Episodes: 12
  • Aired: January 2015 - March 2015

The Hundred Years War is a series of conflicts between England and France between 1337 and 1453. Maria is a French witch that can’t stand to see humanity continually kill each other. She goes about trying to stop that war and bring peace to France and England. She sets out to accomplish that goal armed with only her magic and her familiars, one being a succubus familiar named Artemis.

Artemis, like many of the succubus we have mentioned, is very protective of those she cares about. She is also a bit childish and has fun poking fun at Maria and her prudish and naïve attituded toward sex. The sultry succubus will use her wiles to seduce the warring elite and convince them to set aside their arms. You could say Artemis might be the original proponent of Make Love Not War.

4.Twiska from Brandish

  • Episodes: 2
  • Aired: June 2012- August 2012

Twiska is a succubus princess from the two-episode OVA Brandish. The princess is a little more twisted than some of the other succubus on the list but still very much a succubus in the traditional sense. She flies from town forcibly seducing men to steal their load. Did we mention that this is a Hentai OVA? Twiska’s life is pretty good as she reenacts “Debbie Does Dallas” in town after town. Her life is changed when she comes across the young hero that is supposed to eventually defeat her. She vows to kill the hero before he can kill her but finds he is remarkably good at sex. She has to make the difficult decision: should she make him her sex slave or become his?

3.Astarotte Yvgar from Astarotte no Omocha! [Astarotte’s Toy!]

  • Episodes: 12
  • Aired: April 2011 - June 2011

Astarotte Ygvar is a loli-succubus and the heroine of Astarotte’s Toy. Astarotte is, as all the ladies on this list, is a succubus and by nature should be a lover of men. Astarotte is not. She, in fact, hates men. The young succubus princess needs to build a harem in order for her to sustain herself and become stronger so she may someday be able to rule.

One day a path opens up to the human realm and one of her companions journeys through it and returns with a young man. The kind-hearted young man is Naoya and is considered the perfect candidate to be the first member of the young succubus’ harem. It’s a role he assents to not because he is a lolicon, but because he sees his role as a non-sexual caretaker. He does have one condition: he gets to bring a girl named Asuha (who we first assume is his sibling and later learn is his daughter) with him. We like Astarotte because besides having an adorable character design she is a tsundere and the conflict between her values and her nature makes for some amazingly cute, awkward, and funny moments. You should also pay careful attention to the story of Asuha’s birth; it can make the whole plot even more awkward.

2.Maria Naruse from Shinmai Maou no Testament [Testament of Sister New Devil]

  • Episodes: 12
  • Aired: January 2015 - March 2015

Toujo Basara is living the average life of a high school boy. The calm peaceful life he had begins to change when his father abruptly tells him that he’s decided to remarry, and he would be getting two stepsisters. You’d think, okay we’ve seen this story before, especially when it has an ecchi tag. We know things get suspicious when we never meet the woman his father is marrying, and his father has to go out of town on business the day after the sisters come to live with them. We absolutely know something is up when his sisters try and use magic to brainwash him into leaving. The sisters don’t realize is that he is only pretending to live the average life, because Basara is definitely not average. He and his father came from a clan of heroes and the sisters’ magic isn’t going to have an effect. The story then revolves around him protecting his demon princess refugee step-sister Mio and her bodyguard who is also now his stepsister Maria the succubus.

Despite being one of the most alluring of all demons, Maria looks a lot like the typical little sister archetype. She is often seen with her hair in twin-tails, wearing a frilly cute dress and sometimes sporting a rather childish personality. She is also a tease and loves to make sexual jokes and arrange to have Mio and Basara get into compromising situations. Maria is very loyal to her family and is willing to use her considerable strength to protect those she cares about. We love to laugh at her antics and that’s enough to secure the number two spot on this list.

1.Kurumu Kurono from Rosario+Vampire

  • Episodes: 13
  • Aired: January 2008 - March 2008

We definitely saved the best for last. When we first meet Kurumu Kurono she takes the role of a villain as she bewitches all the boys in the school. The protagonist Tsukune Aono isn’t immune from her charms which puts his budding romantic relationship with heroine Moka at risk. The end of the episode has the succubus put in her place and no longer trying to make the entire school body her slaves. She simply falls for Tsukune and makes it her mission to make him fall for her without the use of her powers.

Kurumu is extremely charming, as is her nature. She is also fiercely loyal. The succubus has chosen Tsukune as her mate for life (regardless of what Tsukune thinks) and is always the first to jump between him and danger. You will get even a greater sense of her loyalty, love, and combat prowess if you read the manga. We highly recommend that you read the whole series. The story really takes off after the point where the second season ends. We declare with no reservations that Kurumu is the best succubus in all of anime.

Final Thoughts

Succubus are the things of men’s dreams: the demon women that sneak into your bed and seduce you. You as a man are powerless to stop them. You could look at that as either an excuse for getting caught having an affair or an example of a weakness of many men to just say yes to sex whenever offered. The way the anime treats them is a little different. Succubus are typically strong female characters that have complex emotions and are never just fooling around. We tend to like these characters better that way because a girl who’s good at foreplay and seduction is better than one who is just says “okay, let’s do it.”

Maria-Naruse-Shinmai-Maou-no-Testament-Wallpaper Top 10 Anime Succubus [Updated]

Vampires, werewolves, ghosts - you have met them all. But how familiar are you with succubus in the anime universe?

That’s right, today we want to show some respect to a mythical race that is often overlooked. Succubi can be defined as female demons that are known to seduce men and sometimes even kill them if necessary. The girls on our list aren’t that cold-hearted, but they can surely take a punch. No matter whether you’ve been looking for a list like this for a long time or are just curious to see who we came up with, this list has something for everyone.

So what are we waiting for? It is time to introduce our personal Top 10 succubus in anime. Enjoy!

10. Ageha Kurono from Rosario to Vampire Capu2 (Rosario + Vampire 2nd Season)

  • Episodes: 13
  • Aired: October 2008 - December 2008

Let’s start this list off with a character who might have only made a smaller appearance, but who definitely deserves some recognition: Ageha Kurono from the second season of Rosario to Vampire.

Rosario to Vampire is the story of Tsukune Aono who gets sent to a youkai academy, a school for everything and everyone supernatural. Ageha Kurono is the mother of one of the girls attending the academy. She is a succubus and therefore is beautiful, outspoken and at least a little bit eccentric.

Ageha deserves the first spot on our list since she encompasses everything a succubus stands for while still being a mother to her daughter. Of course, their mother-daughter relationship isn’t discussed in much detail, but it is nice to see a succubus who also has a private life and does more than simply seduce men.

9. Succubus from Druaga no Tou: The Aegis of Uruk (Tower of Druaga: The Aegis of Uruk)

  • Episodes: 12
  • Aired: April 2008 - June 2008

We are staying in the year 2008, but moving on to a fantastic adventure with Tower of Druaga: The Aegis of Uruk.

This lesser known show revolves around a tower that is filled with demons, evil spirits and everything in-between. Of course, imminent danger is never a problem for true adventurers and soon the tower also hosts a clan of warriors who are ready to fight their way to the top and kill everything that stands in their way.

Succubus is one of those demons living in the tower. She is - take a guess - a succubus of course and ready to play mind games with the adventurers. Disguised as the goddess Ishtar she tries to guard the Blue Crystal Rod and stop our warriors. Succubus might only play a minor role in the overall storyline of this show, but she is definitely an interesting character. An enchanting succubus that can easily fool others - our second choice on this list.

8. Len from Carnival Phantasm

  • Episodes: 12
  • Aired: August 2011 - December 2011

Have you ever heard of Carnival Phantasm? If not, you should definitely check it out. Not only because of our next succubus Len, but because it is a simply hilarious show.

Carnival Phantasm is an adaption of the gag manga Take-Moon, produced for the 10th anniversary of Japanese game company Type-Moon. The anime consists of a couple of stories that are all based on the company’s previous work like Fate/stay night, Tsukihime or Melty Blood. In the midst of this chaotic storyline you can find Len, a succubus familiar.

Len has one of the more interesting backstories on this list. She was once a human girl, but after she died she was able to transfer her soul into the body of a black cat. Now she can shapeshift between two forms while also having the ability to manipulate the dreams of others. Shapeshifting, dream manipulation, glaring red eyes - Len has a lot to bring to the table and easily made it onto this list.

7. Rias Gremory from High School DxD

  • Episodes: 12
  • Aired: January 2012 - March 2012

Let’s move on from a quiet blue-haired girl to a fierce red-haired princess.

Rias is a beautiful senior student and member of the Occult Research Club. She is also the daughter of the Gremory clan of devils and has the power to resurrect and bind people to her - people such as high school student Issei Hyoudou.

Some of you might start to argue at this point that Rias technically isn’t a succubus. And while it is true that she is described as a devil, you can definitely say that she is a female demon who knows how to play around with people. Rias is fierce and has a hot temper while also being loyal and protective. Rias is the full package when it comes to female demons and that is why we simply had to include her in our Top 10.

6. Artemis from Junketsu no Maria (Maria the Virgin Witch)

  • Episodes: 12
  • Aired: January 2015 - March 2015

Succubus are not a thing of the past and they can also appear in more recent shows. Such as Artemis in Maria the Virgin Witch.

This story is set in France during the Hundred Years' War against England. Maria is a young witch who cannot continue standing still while innocent people die. She sets out to bring peace between the two nations, only assisted by her magical powers and her succubus familiar Artemis.

As a familiar, Artemis is very protective of Maria and is always ready to help her out whenever she is in need. She is a tough girl with a questionable sense of fashion, but she also has a childish side and loves to tease Maria. Artemis shows a different side of succubi with her caring and loving personality. She is a character you shouldn’t miss out on, so give Maria the Virgin Witch a try if you haven’t already.

5. Elucia “Elsie” de Lute Ima from Kami nomi zo Shiru Sekai (The World God Only Knows)

  • Episodes: 12
  • Aired: October 2010 - December 2010

Some demons want to harm humans while others just want to play around with them. Just like Elucia “Elsie” de Lute Ima in The World God Only Knows.

Keima Katsuragi is an otaku who is much more popular with digital girls than with girls in real life. Ready to take on any challenge he meets Elsie, a demon from hell who challenges him to date and retrieve demon girls who have escaped from her realm - a challenge that might be a little bit bigger than Keima had expected.

Even though Elsie is called a shinigami, we want to include her since she has all the qualities of a succubus. Namely, she is able to easily attract the opposite gender while still remaining powerful and in control. At the same time she is also sweet and pure. With Elsie you get evil and innocence combined in one character and that is why she could not be left out from this Top 10.

4. Astarotte Ygvar from Astarotte no Omocha! (Astarotte's Toy)

  • Episodes: 12
  • Aired: April 2011 - June 2011

Only four girls are left on this list and the first one is Astarotte Ygvar from the comedy show Astarotte’s Toy.

The story begins with kind-hearted Naoya Touhara being kidnapped into a magical world ruled by Astarotte. She might look like a little girl, but is actually a succubus princess who needs to build a harem in order to survive in her world. Nothing should be easier than that if it wasn’t for one problem: Astarotte hates men.

Astarotte’s Toy is a lesser known anime even though it is a great combination of ecchi, comedy and fantasy elements. Besides, the idea of a 10-year-old succubus who hates men is simply too hilarious to miss out on. Astarotte is a full-blown succubus, but adds her own spin to the well-known characteristics of her race.

3. Maria Naruse from Shinmai Maou no Testament (The Testament of Sister New Devil)

  • Episodes: 12
  • Aired: January 2015 - March 2015

We are back again in the year 2015 and diving head first into the story of Shinmai Maou no Testament.

Everything suddenly starts going down for high school boy Toujo Basara. First, his father decides to remarry. Then he tells Basara he will have two new stepsisters. Finally, he decides to go on a trip and leave Basara behind with his new siblings. That alone would have already been bad enough, but there is also the fact that his sisters are actually a demon lord and a succubus.

Maria looks like your typical little sister with her pigtails and cute little dress, but there is more to her than that. As a succubus it is her job to guard her sister. She takes her role seriously and is loyal and protective, always ready to do what her sister tells her to do. Maria is your childish yet trustworthy succubus on this list.

2. Mayu Tsukimura from Goshuushou-sama Ninomiya-kun (Good Luck! Ninomiya-kun)

  • Episodes: 12
  • Aired: October 2007 - December 2007

We are slowly getting to the end of this Top 10, but there are still two girls left we need to introduce to you. The first one is Mayu Tsukimura from the Ecchi show Good Luck! Ninomiya-kun.

Shungo Ninomiya’s life could be easy: he is good-looking, popular and lives in a big house. But everything changes when two siblings move in with him and ask him for a favor. He has to help innocent Mayu overcome her fear of men by staying close to her all day long. Shungo isn’t thrilled and to make matters worse he also has to find out that Mayu is actually a succubus.

This anime doesn’t take itself too serious and jokes around with the succubus stereotype. Mayu is a highly popular girl and since she cannot control the powers she has over the opposite sex, she is often chased around by guys. Of course, she isn’t aware of the way she acts and constantly gets into hilariously awkward situations. Fans of Harem and Ecchi should give this show a try.

1. Kurumu Kurono from Rosario to Vampire (Rosario + Vampire)

  • Episodes: 13
  • Aired: January 2008 - March 2008

Last but not least, we want to finish this list right where we started, with Rosario to Vampire. Did you really think we would leave out Kurumu Kurono herself?

As we already mentioned earlier, Rosario to Vampire revolves around mythical beings studying together at a youkai academy. Student Kurume is a succubus girl who loves seducing guys with her good looks and succubus charm. Who would have thought that she would develop actual feelings for hero Tsukune and insist on winning him over?

Kurumu is exactly how a succubus should be: charming, outgoing, flirtatious and yet kind-hearted. She actually cares about the people around her, but that does not mean that she isn’t a force to be reckoned with. Combining all of that with the personality and life of a typical high school girl brings a new twist to being a succubus. Kurumu is probably the most well-known succubus in anime and deserves the last spot on our Top 10.

Final Thoughts

We have to admit that succubi aren’t nearly as popular as they deserve to be when it comes to anime. Sure, you have your female demons and witches, but there is something special about succubus that makes them unique. It might be their background that reaches way back to ancient folklore, or maybe it’s their charming personalities that makes them irresistible.

What do you think of succubi in anime and who are your favorite characters? Share your recommendations in the comment section down below.
