Anime girls can come in so many different shapes, forms, and personalities that finding your type can be quite challenging. Are you into cute, timid anime girls like Kosaki Onodera from Nisekoi, or do you prefer tough chicks like Revy from Black Lagoon? Maybe you like tsundere girls akin to Taiga Aisaka from Toradora. The choices are endless but one recent anime series has been stirring up an anime archtype we don’t see often, the sadodere.

By definition, sadodere are sadistic like anime girls who are cute, quick to tease and often can be violent or manipulative. In simpler terms, many sadodere are cute bullies who love to play with their love interests. We here at Honey’s Anime don’t judge any otaku on their preferences—we have many ourselves—and we in truth want to find the best anime with sadodere in them so you sadomasochists can fall for some premium waifu. That’s why waiting below are ten anime with some cute sadodere waiting to bully but also love you…if you can survive their bullying.

10. Date A Live

  • Aired: April 2013 – June 2013

High schooler Shidou Itsuka tries to live a normal existence despite his world being quite abnormal. Three decades ago, the world was hit with an alien event that caused the deaths of millions and altered our everyday existence with random spatial quakes that can occur without warning. During one of these quakes, Shidou went to save his sister Kotori but instead discovered the origins of the quake in the form of a giant sword-wielding girl. Before the girl can kill our average student, his sister saves him via her flying ship and teaches him that only he can stop the strange girl. Shidou has within him the power to seal the entities that threaten the world but for him to unleash the seal he first needs to date this girl and then kiss her…easy, right?

Date A Live is a harem series that introduces a new girl every few episodes but one girl, in particular, became everyone's favorite from her first introduction. Kurumi Tokisaki is extremely cute and quite sexy in her lingerie-like outfit but that outfit isn’t just to show off her cute body and decently-sized oppai. Kurumi is a sadodere who enjoys teasing her victims with possible “chances” before annihilating them with her strange otherworldly powers. If you can survive her abilities maybe you’ll find an opportunity to make a move with Kurumi…but the chances of that are pretty slim.


9. MM!

At first glance, Taro Sado seems quite normal but hidden inside is a secret he fears will make everyone hate him. Taro is a die-hard masochist who enjoys a girl who can give him pain in any form! Wishing to remove the masochism within, Taro joins the Second Voluntary Club which aims to help any student with any problems. Unfortunately, the club president Mio Isurugi is far from normal herself as she has a huge God Complex! Can Taro remove this side of him or will he just get turned on by Mio’s “rehabilitation” process?

MM! is a pretty silly romance comedy but, let’s face it, this series has every dere one can think of! Mio might look adorable and cute but the sadodere inside is quick to come out especially towards Taro. Mio does begin to clearly fall for Taro as the series progresses but her way of love is a bit violent. Seriously, is getting hit by a baseball bat a good feeling, or is Taro just strange?


8. Deadman Wonderland

  • Aired: April 2011 – July 2011

Ganta Igarashi has been convicted of killing his entire class violently but the truth is Ganta is innocent! One day, randomly, a strange man dressed in red obliterated all of Ganta’s classmates and left him alive for some unknown reason. Now a convicted killer, Ganta isn’t being thrown into a normal prison but, instead, a death game with others who love death and blood. Ganta will need to rely on those who can fight but are his new friends allies or waiting for just the right moment to turn on him and end his existence. The game has begun and dying might be the only way out of this nightmare.

Did you know Deadman Wonderland has one of the best sadodere in all of anime? We know some of you probably said Minatsuki Takami and you would be right. Despite her innocent charming allure, Minatsuki is a cold-blooded sadodere who enjoys torture and gets off on the violence. Minatsuki might be cute but be warned, this girl will love you with a ferociousness you might not survive.


7. Kakegurui

  • Aired: July 2017 – September 2017

Who said high school was all about getting good grades and passing tests. In the strange Hyakkaou Private Academy, grades mean little and the best way to advance is being the best gambler around. Those who win at various games can have their personal wealth and rank increase at the school but losing will diminish your worth and label you a “dog”. One student is about to enter named Yumeko Jabami and despite her amazing looks and adorable actions behind her eyes lies a gambler who lives for high-risk games.

Kakegurui is an engaging anime with tons of high stake card games and drama-filleded challenges but it also has a slew of sadodere roaming around. Aside from the very cute—and extremely voluptuous—female lead Yumeko. there are other sadodere waiting for your affection. You could fall for the blond bombshell Mary Saotome who collects nails from her defeated opponents or fall for the odd Midari Ikishima who will love you if you are willing to play Russian roulette. 6. Akame ga Kill!

Tatsumi has left his poor village in hopes of escaping the poverty he’s been born into and become a soldier who can, in turn, make money to send home. However, the world Tatsumi thought he knew was all a lie and he quickly learns the truth behind the Empire he was going to serve. In recognition of his possible talents, a revolutionary group called Night Raid takes Tatsumi in and begins training him. Alongside other revolutionists, Tatsumi will try to defeat the Empire and change the world. Sadly, the Empire isn’t about to let a rogue group defeat them without fighting back.

Akame ga Kill! is fast-paceded action anime filled with drama, supernatural abiliti,es and some cute girls. Esdeath—the Empire’s secret weapon—hands down, though, is everyone’s favorite waifu who also happens to be a sadodere! Esdeath falls in love with main man Tatsumi in the series but she shows her love in a rather twisted way. Not only is she willing to kill for him but beat him down to prove her intense love! Sadodere girls like Esdeath are scary but you can’t deny…they are loveable.


5. Ijiranaide, Nagatoro-san (Don’t Toy With Me, Miss Nagatoro)

Ask high school student Hayase Nagatoro what her favorite pastime is and you’ll probably get the same response, messing with her senpai. Art Club member Naoto Hachiouji just so happens to be that “senpai” and he doesn’t enjoy this pastime as much as Nagatoro. Despite this, Nagatoro and her friends love messing with the aspiring artist much to his dismay. Will sensei survive the constant teasing or will it slowly make him wish he could change schools?

Released recently, Don’t Toy With Me, Miss Nagatoro has been one of the sole reasons sadodere have become beloved again. Nagatoro is the exact definition of sadodere and those who love the archetype have made her waifu number one. For now, Don’t Toy With Me, Miss Nagatoro is a great comedy anime and hopefully, the series continues providing us sadodere fans with more Nagatoro so our new waifu takes over the world.


4. Blend S

  • Aired: October 2017 – December 2017

Any high schooler will tell you that making money is the first step towards sweet freedom from your parents and the dependent lifestyle children have. Maika Sakuranomiya is also seeking that freeing life and prays she can get a job to earn some money. Sadly, Maika isn’t having any luck job hunting thanks to the strange aura she presents to those who don’t know her. Luck finally passes her way when she runs into Dino, a manager at Café Stile who hires girls with “odd personas”. Dino wishes for Maika to unleash her masochist personality and grab even more customers for his strange establishment.

Blend S is one of the few anime out there that has nearly every archetype around. Maika is our focus, though, as not only is she the main female lead but she’s also a sadodere. Outside of the café, Maika is cute and adorable with looks that can make you fall in love at first sight. The minute Maika enters Café Stiles, her strange sadodere side appears and while it might be an act, she equally harbors a lot of themes of a common sadodere.


3. High School DxD

  • Aired: January 2012 – March 2012

Issei Hyoudou should be dead…keywords “should”. After being tricked into a date with a bombshell, Issei learns that the date was meant to lead him to his demise and become yet another victim for this fallen angel. Saved by Rias Gremory, Issei becomes a servant to the red-headed knockout and learns of a secret battle between devils and angels. Now able to harness the powers of a “pawn”, Issei must unite with his new friends to save those who need the power of a devil and occasionally grab Rias’ oppai as much as humanly possible.

High School DxD is another harem we love as it has a slew of cute girls who also happen to be sadodere. Akeno Himejima is our personal favorite as she loves to tease our oppai-loving hero and play with him as much as possible using her cute looks and large…assets. There are several other sadodere in High School DxD that range from cute to sexy but Akeno is probably one of our favorite cute sadodere overall.


2. Fairy Tail

Lucy Heartfilia lives in the magical world of Fiore where magicians aim to show their skill by joining powerful guilds such as Fairy Tail. Eager to follow in the footsteps of many adventurers, Lucy embarks on her mission but ends up finding herself in a dangerous situation. Nearly abducted by a strange man, Lucy is saved by a strong warrior named Natsu who ironically is a member of Fairy Tail! Lucy joins Natsu immediately and begins her adventures with the members on their various quests throughout Fiore. A grand tale of magic, adventure, and drama is about to begin in Fairy Tail!

Then one day, when Izuku runs into the number one superhero named All Might, he is given a chance to live his dream. Izuku’s world is about to become fraught with danger but with his new power. only he can begin to stop evil and become the new beacon of hope!

One of our absolute favorite anime series—which also just had a new season begin airing—has also one of the best sadodere around. Himiko Toga isn’t a superhero but a villain. but that doesn’t stop her from being one of the cutest sadodere villains ever. After she falls for Deku—Izuku’s nickname for those unaware—she begins to show her sadistic love. willing to cut him up just to show how much she adores him. Scary but cute, Toga is cuteness personified even if she is deadlier than most villains in the series!


Final Thoughts

Sadodere aren’t talked about as much as yandere or tsundere but that doesn’t mean they go unnoticed!
