Anime is the reason we are all here. There is so much to love, from funny, engaging, or dramatic stories to beautiful artwork. There is, however, a lot of anime that focuses on many different aspects that appeal to straight guys when we hit the romance department. For straight women... the best we get is multiple hot guys that want to kiss your hand sometimes. Some of us need more, dang it!! We are multifaceted individuals that need a little variety in our lives. We are... fujoshi!!
For those of you who stumbled here by accident, fujoshi is Japanese for 'rotten girl'. For the rest of you, you know why you're here. You love the delicate shy love between two beautiful boys. You also love the hot erotic feverish sex between men who desperately want each other. You don't always need sweet patient princes (Although they are nice too sometimes!), sometimes you just want demanding, selfish guys fulfilling their carnal desires. Whether it's mere eye candy, a person to relate to, or that good old hardcore yaoi, here are 10 anime for the modern fujoshi.
10. K
- Episodes: 13
- Air Date: Oct. 2012 – Dec. 2012
Yashiro is a kind yet unremarkable high school boy living in the world of Kings. A King is someone with supernatural powers that draws a 'clan' of followers able to use the King's power to them. Some Kings become gang leaders, others use their powers as members of a police force. This fragile balance is destroyed when a video surfaces appearing to show Yashiro murdering a Red clansmen. Now with dozens of powerful enemies and no memory of the incident, Yashiro must put his trust in the swordsman Kurou who is ready to kill Yashiro should he be proven guilty.
If you liked Kuroshitsuji for reasons other than the plot (ahem, Grell and Sebastian~) K is going to be a good choice! Most everyone is male, and the few girls in there don't end up romantically involved with the guys. There's so much flirting and heated rivalry mixed with loyalty between the guys that it doesn't leave too much to the imagination. Seeing hot men fighting each other is a good time and add the occasional loving, devoted display and you're all set for fantasy land.
9. Free! (Free! Iwatobi Swim Team)
- Episodes: 12
- Air Date: July 2013 – Sept. 2013
In elementary school, 4 childhood friends shared their love of swimming. Now in high school, they are facing many changes. Nagisa, Makoto, and Haruka still want to swim together, but Rin no longer cares for anything save proving he's a better swimmer than Haruka. Needing a 4th member to create a swim team, the friends recruit a stranger. Will they be able to function as a team despite this lack of familiarity? Will Rin ever return to the way he was? The only thing that is certain is that once they hit the water, everything else disappears.
You know from seeing pretty much any image from the show we're in it for the half naked guys. We have some good-looking, built high-school boys with an apparent dislike of shirts and they are constantly wet. Add the (assumed) sexual tension of friend turned rival that is obsessed with our main character and rotten girls everywhere can rejoice.
8. Watashi ga Motenai no wa Dou Kangaetemo Omaera ga Warui! (No Matter How I Look at it, It's You Guys' Fault I'm Unpopular!)
- Episodes: 12
- Air Date: July 2013 – Sept. 2013
Kuroki Tomoko is a master at visual novels and dating 2D boys, so she's confident that in her first year in high-school she can become the most popular girl there. Tomoko might not have a lot of REAL friends to base this idea on, but her virtual boyfriends sure think she's great. She's a bit of a shut in and prefers online shopping for anime merchandise and obsessing over her anime crushes than interacting with real people. But it's certainly everyone else's fault she isn't immediately popular!!
Tomoko is like the unrestrained fujoshi in all of us, absolutely not self-aware and committed to feeding her addictions. She's great because she's not a just a fan of cute, pure things as girls are commonly portrayed. She's interested, though inexperienced, in sex and is masochistically into her favorite seiyuu (voice actor) insulting and berating her. She truly brings the nature of a 'rotten girl' to light, and it's incredibly fun to see someone so unapologetically living their life!
7. Shimoneta to Iu Gainen ga Sonzai Shinai Taikutsu na Sekai (Shimoneta: A Boring World Where the Concept of Dirty Jokes Doesn't Exist)
- Episodes: 12
- Air Date: July 2015 – Sept. 2015
Japan has managed to rid the country of all lewd material and even the concept of dirty jokes in order to create a perfectly pure society. Tanukichi tries hard to live by the rules of this society, living under the shadow of his ero-terrorist father. He wants to prove himself a pure boy in order to be worthy enough to be in the presence of his innocent childhood friend, Anna. This desire to be close to her brings him close to her best friend Ayame. Yet, Ayame is secretly Blue Snow, the young ero-terrorist that plagues the city with erotic pictures and dirty words. She manipulates Tanukichi into helping her, feeling a kindred spirit with Tanukichi based on his lewd lineage.
Ayame is obsessed with all things lewd, not just gay boys. Though she certainly supports her friend's erotic drawings of Tanukichi with another boy! She's as close to a fujoshi super hero as it gets. She's hated by society at large but she is a messenger of the people. A huge advocate of normalizing sex and destigmatizing what is deemed as dirty or impure, she revels in dirty jokes and freedom of expressing one's urges. She's a huge pervert and that makes her happy. At the end of the day, she just wants to share that happiness with everyone! Sometimes, being a fujoshi can feel lonely when people don't share your love of dirty anime, but you can rally behind Blue Snow and make others see just how fulfilling that life can be!
6. Super Lovers
- Episodes: 10
- Air Date: April 2016 – June 2016
Haru's mother has always been eccentric. When he hears that she is sick in Canada, he drops everything to go to her. What he sees instead of a sickly woman is a young feral boy Haru's mother decided would join their family. She gives Haru the task of taking care of the wild Ren, and through much patience, the two become as close as people can get. Haru ends up moving back to Japan but tells Ren he is welcome to come live with him one day. A car accident causes Haru to forget Ren's existence, and when the now teenager shows up, Haru is cold toward him. Now with Ren as the one fighting to break through to him, the two slowly start to behave more like brothers. That is.... until they start feeling something new for each other!
Super Lovers is a very cute show but there are a few things you have to over ook, like the blatant incestual overtones and the ages of our protagonists. Ren is only 15 when he starts to explore a sexual relationship with his big brother, but seeing how tenderly Haru treats him it's very easy to ignore. Haru NEVER stops talking about how much he loves all his brothers but you can clearly see how his behavior is different towards Ren, as opposed to his twin step-brothers. It's also got a second season, so the fun doesn't stop! The pacing is a little slow when it comes to their physical relationship but don't worry, you get more than just a kiss at the end!
5. Love Stage
- Episodes: 10
- Air Date: July 2014 – Dec. 2014
Izumi Sena has detested the spotlight, unlike his famous family. His one TV appearance as a child had him dressed as a girl with a young boy named Ryouma. Ryouma grows up to be an incredibly popular actor, and when the company reaches out to him to star in another commercial 10 years later, he insists the same 'girl' be in it too! What will happen to Ryouma when he realizes the feelings he's carried all this time were for a boy??
Love Stage is a simple, fun story about two boys in show business that fall for each other. It's great fun because they do get physical, but their relationship has more understanding and respect than many gay relationships in anime. They don't fit the stereotypical seme/uke pairing and their dynamic is both fun and immensely adorable.
4. Yuri!!! On ICE
- Episodes: 12
- Air Date: Oct. 2016 – Dec. 2016
Katsuki Yuuri, after a humiliating defeat at the Grand Prix Final, is ready to give up his dreams of competitive figure skating. Suffering from low self-esteem and anxiety, he disappears from the ice skating world. He tries to ease back into skating years later, but when a video surfaces of him performing world-renowned skater Victor Nikiforov's choreography, the champion himself decides to become Yuuri's coach and push Yuuri to compete in the Grand Prix again. Yuuri will need to find the strength he's never had to face the rising pressure and hostility from other professional skaters, but he may just find it in Victor.
We know this is an article for fujoshi but Yuri on Ice is JUST REALLY GOOD. In its all-around goodness, it also has a lot for rotten girls to lap up. Most of the cast are guys, and the girls tend to be huge fans of the guys without trying to 'steal them'. Our main couple, Yuuri and Victor, have a very normal and healthy relationship which isn't fetishized in the show, nor are they very physical with each other (at least on camera!). But some of the other skaters really like to get the audience aroused and we will gladly take it.
3. Watashi ga Motete Dousunda (Kiss Him, Not Me!)
- Episodes: 12
- Air Date: Oct. 2016 – Dec. 2016
Serinuma Kae is a big girl who is sometimes made fun of for her weight. She couldn't care less, though, because she's much more interested in what the beautiful male students at her school think of each other. 'A prince belongs with a prince!' She is a hardcore fujoshi, a secret she has revealed only to her family and her similarly-closeted friend Amane. After the tragic death of Kae's favorite 2D character, she loses the will to eat, even live! And when she re-emerges after having lost so much weight, she now is a beauty in the eyes of everyone at school. Four of her school mates follow her everywhere, eager to get to know her. But a fujoshi would rather watch than be courted, it's way too much pressure!
This show has got so much going for it, where do we even begin? Our main character is a total fujoshi that honestly cares more for eye candy than attention. She doesn't get down on herself for being unattractive to boys, she's just happy seeing tender moments between men! She's a strong independent fujoshi that don't need no boyfriend. Even though the boys are all hoping to court her, that doesn't mean the gay moments stop. With the moe of guys growing ever closer and the hilarity of our own reactions blatantly on screen, you'll love Watashi ga Motete Dousunda!
2. Otokonoko Delivery
- Episodes: currently airing
- Air Date: Dec. 2016 – ongoing
When businessman Kazuya ends up with time to kill one night, he partakes of the otokonoko delivery service, hoping to secure some company for the evening! He doesn't know at first that the young ladies in the ads are actually feminine high school boys, but once it's time for fun, he doesn't care! When two of the agency's recruits discover each others' erotic alter-egos, will they become rivals? or partners in crime?
Remember in the days of old yaoi when one character would say of another 'wow, he's so beautiful, like a girl' and you'd be staring at these awkward proportions and spiky hair and say 'ok, yeah, I have very little else in terms of choices in yaoi so I'll go with you on this.'? Nowadays, we can expect our smut with beautiful artwork! While Otokonoko Delivery has been compared to Boku no Pico, it's much prettier and the young boys know what they're doing and what they want, which makes it way better. It's just shota boys getting it on with each other and an older man, so no silly plot to take away from the hot boy-on-boy action!
1. Junjou Romantica
- Episodes: 12
- Air Date: April 2008 – June 2008
Junjo Romantica follows the romance between three couples who are loosely connected. At the behest of Takahiro, Misaki's older brother and Usagi's oldest friend and first love, Misaki comes under Usagi's tutelage. The two can't stand each other at first what with the other being so unlike Takahiro. When they try to figure out just what Takahiro could see in the other, they're surprised at what they find.
Hiroki, an old friend of Usagi's, has never gotten over his first love. Resigned to die single, Hiroki is completely blown away when Nowaki, a kind-hearted young man, becomes a part of his life.
Professors at the same university, Miyagi likes to tease Hiroki about his stoic nature, though Miyagi has long since given up on love. As if his feelings aren't complicated enough, a student who just so happens to be the dean's son, and also the younger brother of Miyagi's ex-wife, suddenly professes they are bound by fate.
Junjou first aired a while ago, but its most recent season was in 2015. We came for the yaoi, stayed for the feels with this one. It's great for delving into our dark desires of men entwined in the arms of other men, especially with the added drama/appeal of resisting turning to consent. Yet, as the series continues, you find yourself rooting for all three couples, and seeing them overcome their hardships with each other warms your heart! Junjou Romantica makes it to the top of the fujoshi must-see list for the sheer amount of content and a nice mix of pure goodness and sexy time.
Final Thoughts
Even if the rankings may not resonate with you personally, as each fujoshi is her own unique self, we hope we've at least got something on this list for everyone! Representation of the true debauchery of the fujoshi is great because everyone should have their desires acknowledged! With that in mind, All Out!! gets a special mention for being ship-worthy, though the guys may not be visually as appealing to some. If you like buff boys though, be sure to give it a look!
