Though we here at Honey’s Anime always like to show respect to the lesser known gaming developers who make some amazing indie titles. That’s why we decided to work up a list of great indie titles that have released for Sony’s PS4. Today we’re looking at the Top 10 Indie Games for PlayStation 4.

From RPGs to FPS titles, there are plenty of indie games for Playstation 4 to choose from. However, we know you probably want the best titles that you can find from the large indie games library. After scouring our own gaming libraries and read online fan favorites, we were able to create this large list to help you out. 10. Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture

The only clues leading to what may have happened comes in the form of odd orbs that contain memories of various people. Was this disappearance really caused by the so called Rapture or was it something else entirely? Go forth and discover the truth in Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture.

Let’s start off our list of indie games for Playstation 4with Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture. Described as a walking simulator—since there’s very little to physically do in Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture—it may seem that this is a boring FPS adventure game. However, the reality is that Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture is a strong narrative title with beautiful visuals and a heartwarming—sometimes spooky—story. Not every indie game needs explosions or obscene amounts of action to be fun. Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture may be simple to play but the story that you will piece together—because we know you’ll want to check this indie game for Playstation 4 out—will be anything but simple.


9. Inside

A young boy’s curious nature will have him running for his life when he sees too much. Traveling through a forest, the boy notices armed guards scouring the area. Avoiding being caught, the boy runs through the forest and finds a farm with something odd going on. The boy instantly notices strange human looking beings being taken from the farm and decides to follow. As the boy will soon learn his desire to know more will land him in dangerous territory. Can this young boy survive or will something horrible befall him?

Developer Playdead has been known for crafting some amazing indie titles. One of their last hits was Limbo and now they get to add another amazing indie game for Playstation 4 by the name of Inside. Players will experience a dark world of mystery all while solving puzzles and avoiding various dangers. Inside not only will blow you away with an unspoken narrative but some amazing visuals. If you haven’t tried out Inside for the PS4 you’re missing out on an excellent indie game.


8. Soma

  • Release Date: Sept 22, 2015

Simon Jarret was enjoying life until a horrible car accident changed his life forever. Now with massive amount of brain damage, Simon is told that there may be a way to help him via a new brain scanning technology. Deciding to give it a go, Simon heads to the facility but finds that something goes very wrong during the scan. Waking up, Simon notices a metallic environment that seems to be some kind of underwater base. Here Simon will learn that the world he knew is gone as well as other revelations that will alter Simon’s reality forever.

Soma is an indie FPS title that truly was a treat to play on the PS4. Gamers took control of Simon as they explored this odd underwater base discovering some rather creepy revelations for the world and its inhabitants. Soma is one of those titles that we won’t spoil for you—trust us some of the revelations within will blow your mind—but we will say be prepared for a horrific but epic adventure. Soma is a must for fans of the indie game genre and want a new title to add to their PS4 gaming library.


7. Invisible, Inc.

  • Release Date: May 12, 2015

Technology may make life easier in the year 2074 but equally it allows for crime to rise up. With so many threats to deal with, the world has to look towards other groups to deal with some of the more private ones. This is where Invisible Inc. comes in. Privately owned and free from allegiance, Invisible Inc. is the company to hire when chaos ensues. However, when an unknown attack hits the Invisible Inc. headquarters from within, the team that’s used to handling any danger must now fight against an unknown enemy that seeks to destroy not only Invisible Inc. but the world as a whole.

We here at Honey’s Anime love tactical based RPGs and equally indie games. That’s why Invisible Inc. by developer Klei Entertainment really wormed its way into our hearts. Players control an agent as they move around various maps and take down enemies in various ways. Similar to games like Fire Emblem or X-COM, if a character on a team dies and aren’t rescued before a mission ends, they will be gone for the remainder of the game. Invisible Inc. is a tough game at times but with solid gameplay and a great visual look it’s a title fans of the tactical genre will definitely wish to dive into.


6. Journey

  • Publisher: Sony Computer Entertainment
  • Developer: thatgamecompany
  • Release Date: Mar 13, 2012

Within a large desert you will take control of a wandering being. Your only destination is a rather large tower in the far distance. As you begin to venture towards this structure you will discover traces of civilizations long gone. Where did they go and for what reasons? Your adventure may uncover this knowledge but be warned there is a threat looming in this desert. Go forth and find the answers you seek in Journey.

Journey original released on the PS3 and we considered it original and thought it was amazing. Now for the PS4 that feeling has only been amplified thanks to a fresh new polish in terms of visuals. Now Journey will be an even more immersive experience with graphics only the PS4 can produce all while not destroying what made the first version of Journey so great. We really tip our hats to developer thatgamecompany who have released yet another amazing title in the form of Journey. Without question Journey belongs on our list of Top 10 Indie Games for PlayStation 4.



5. Firewatch

  • Release Date: Feb 9, 2016

Henry’s life has been troubling for quite some time. Deciding on a change, Henry leaves decides to take on a job as a Fire Lookout. Now tasked with keeping the forest free of harm and fire damage, Henry’s primary partner is a supervisor named Delilah. While it seems that this new job is just peaceful, one summer will change Henry’s life forever. Setting forth to explore a possible danger Henry will have to deal with his job as well as his past re-emerging. As Henry will soon learn, every action he makes will be what changes his world forever.

FireWatch seems at first like your typical FPS narrative indie title. However, Firewatch is anything but simple once you begin to see Henry’s world and deal with his new job. With beautiful graphics and amazing gameplay, Firewatch can easily pass as a triple A experience. Firewatch is easily one of the best indie games for Playstation 4 and we recommend fully giving it a try. Just be ready for Henry’s past and present hold a lot of dark possibilities and some will make your jaw drop.


4. Transistor

  • Release Date: May 20, 2014

Red was once a famous singer in the Cloudbank city. However, one day she witnesses a man being killed by a giant green sword and loses her voice. While the man is now dead, his soul has somehow infused into the sword known as the Transistor. Now the two must escape the city as a robotic army known as the Process begin to chase them. Red must rely on her new sword to somehow survive this horrible situation and learn the truth of what happened.

To say we simply love Transistor by developer Supergiant Games wouldn’t be accurate. This amazing RPG gives proof that indie studios can develop some games that outshine triple A developers. Players will get to experience some amazing narrative, a wickedly great OST and some clever RPG elements that keep players on their toes as they fight various threats. Transistor is an indie game for Playstation 4 we can’t recommend enough folks, it is just that amazing. 3. Rocket League

Rocket League by developer Psyonix takes the best elements of soccer and racing cars and infuses into one game. Players will have to drive their speedy vehicles on a giant field while trying to hit a giant ball into an opponent’s net. While it may seem simple, Rocket League is a tough game to master as you need to learn to find that sweet spot of how to hit the ball into the goal. With tons of tracks, a large multiplayer focus and tons of fun to be had, Rocket League is a must download. Be prepared for some tough opposition though as others want to win just as bad as you do.

Rocket League seems like a silly idea on paper but in execution this game is nothing but fun. Players can enjoy tons of customizable vehicles, a large amount of gameplay modes—such as ice hockey and even basketball—and plenty of cool tricks to perform to earn that sweet goal. Developer Psyonix really made a game that even now players have tons of fun online and even in large gaming competitions. Alex is about to head toward Edwards Islands to meet some friends for a party. However, Alex will find that her party ideals will soon be shattered once she arrives on the island. Finding an odd cave that causes a weird frequency to appear, Alex and her friends end up opening a rift to another dimension within the cave. Blacking out, the various party goers are scattered on the island now forced to deal with odd paranormal events. Alex will soon learn that she has only so long to somehow deal with this ghostly threat before her friends and possibly the world are affected.

Oxenfree is a very interesting indie game for Playstation 4 from developer Night School Studio. Controlling Alex, players will be forced to solve puzzles as well as make decisions that affect Alex’s friendship with the various characters of Oxenfree. All of these actions take place in a very spooky but interesting adventure game that at times borders on horror themes. With multiple endings Oxenfree has many reasons to hit new game+ as soon as possible upon completion. Trust us folks, Oxenfree is well worth your time and you should go and buy this indie game for Playstation 4 as soon as possible.

Katie is finally prepared to journey back home after having been living overseas for some time. What should have been fanfare to welcome back Katie turns into an odd mystery once Katie sees a note on the house door. Telling Katie to avoid exploring the house, Katie decides against it and enters her eerily quiet abode. Katie must now piece together clues on what happened while she was gone as well as where did everyone go. However, will Katie wish to know the dark truth hidden in her once calm home?

Our Top 10 Indie Games for PlayStation 4 list ends with Gone Home. Players will immediately notice that Gone Home aims to be minimalistic in nature. All you will be required to do in Gone Home is to explore Katie’s home finding various documents and other items to learn more about her past and the fate of her parents.
